I don't know. When I ran a "completed listing" search for iPhone 4 16GB, I was getting mostly $150-200. On the other hand, there were some in the $250 range, but they were much newer. Mine is in great condition, but also about 2.5 years old.
An auction usually brings more, but it is more hassle. Also, don't forget that eBay takes a percentage of the sale, listing fees, and arrange for shipping.
I ordered mine around 2:30am PST on the day of the launch and I'm still showing 2 weeks with the Oct. 5th delivery date. My card is still showing a pending $1.00 charge from the Apple Web Store... I guess we'll see an update after the actual launch on Friday?
I'm surprised someone got their shipping method changed since the Apple rep I spoke to said it's impossible to change a delivery method on a pre-order item. The guy made it clear that it is only possible to change methods ONLY after a product has actually launched.
I called apple yesterday and explained that i ordered mine at 2:56am ET and got the usual reply that they sold out quickly which is why my delivery date was moved to Oct. 5th. The rep then changed my shipping method to next day and said i will now get the phone on Oct. 1st. I refreshed my order status page while on the phone with him and it was updated to Oct 1st delivery
I've been following a lot of IP4 auctions, as I plan to list mine once I receive the 5 and majority end at around 275 as long as they are in great condition. I've even seen a few with cracked screens and damaged home buttons sell for 225. When I sold my 3GS 2 years ago I got 270 and I just sold my moms 3GS a year ago when the 4S was released, and even that got 170.
Hmm, you're right. I wonder if I can still try and sell at auction and just cancel the "instant sale" by not shipping it.
It looks like the factory unlocked ones go for a lot more too. I think you can unlock through the web if you're with AT&T.
Thats good to know for next time. Had no idea people were paying so much for i4s I think I'll just go with Radio Shack this time so I can just save money right there on Friday, which is officially tomorrow as of 6 minutes ago..
You are so lucky. I called apple rep and told me they can do nothing about upgrading the shipping method. Even said Oct 5th probably the actual delivery date.
After this how many people in here will ever pre-order an iPhone from Apple in the future? I won't. Probably try Radio Shack next time. I bet next time they have Pre-orders they'll sell out in the 1st 5 minutes, making it even less likely that anyone will be happy with the results.

I cancelled my Oct 5 Apple.com order and went with Radio Shack. I hope my choice is justified. I check back in here too to see if things have gotten any better for the 10/5ers.
I called trying to upgrade my shipping and the rep said that Apple was intending on getting everyone's phone out as soon as possible and they were already upgrading shipping automatically. My delivery date is Oct 2 and he said it could be here before that. The story you get just depends on the rep you talk to.
I believe people buy iphones on ebay, jailbreak them, and then resell them for double the price. I checked out the guy's history who purchased my mom's 3GS and he had already purchased a ton of iphones. I definitely recommend going the auction route.
They have launches in 20 countries on the 28th. My guess is that Apple allocated its own stock for that.
Anyway, at the time of pre-orders people received an estimate of the shipment date. It costs nothing to cancel a pre-order so if it sells out in 5 minutes next year instead of 60 then people will know and use other routes.
I'm wondering this as well but just assuming it would be sometime between 9/28 and 10/01..
I ordered on the 14th around 6:30am est from apple. I received the order is being processed email about 10 minutes after placing my order. "still processing" with Oct. 5th delivery as of today.
No luck to find the tracking # @ ups or any other information and haven't had hold or charge on my cc yet.
I doubt shipping location has anything to do with but I'm in Atl..
Anyone know if an AT&T store could cancel our apple order or give us our upgrade before we cancel our apple order?? I'm thinking about calling around to a few local stores to see..
Also, has anyone been able to find how many phones local stores will be getting in?

I spoke to an Apple rep and was told that if I find a phone in store, just call and cancel my preorder. The upgrade eligibility should be back within 15 minutes.
I'm just going to avoid the mad rush tomorrow and go to my Apple store first thing on Saturday or Monday and see if I get lucky.
My Att store said they cant cancel your apple preorder you have to either call apple or do it yourself assuming you are still processing. The Att store near me said they have 10 iphones and I called the corporate store and they said they will have more then 10 but didnt give me a number. The lady said if I come an hour early I will probably get a phone.
Thanks for the info.. I think my plan will be
1) make a few calls to local AT&T stores to see if they could tell me how much stock they will have or at least % chance they will have the phone I want. (32 gig white)
2) if those calls sound promising, Ill pick a store and show up like 30 or 45 mins before and see if they are giving out numbers. If I get lucky and get a number... I'll call apple and cancel my order while I wait.. Not sure if that would work because I assume it would take at least 30/45 mins to get the order canceled.
I saw where some of you said canceling from the apple app is the best bet but I didn't sign in with my apple Id when I placed the order. So I'm assuming I would have to cancel over the phone.. Anyone know how to pull up your order in the app if you didn't use your apple Id during the order?
Last question.. Does anyone know if we could purchase the phone @ AT&T for full price but get credited after canceling an apple order?

Just cancelled my order so hopefully showing up to the att store 2 hours early gets me a phone. Def not going to go to the apple store, that line is just absurd for iphone launches.

I keep checking to see if my delivery date has changed from 10-5, but it has not.

They probably then have a set number they plan to have available at their stores on 9-21. The next batch is for pre-orders for the phone companies, best buy and the like. The next batch goes to the 10-5 group. IF Apple does not sell out of the phones they set aside for the 9-21 date in the stores, they will ship earlier to the 10-5 group based upon what time you ordered. So, if you ordered at 5 am and got the 10-5 date, you have a better chance of getting your phone earlier than if you ordered at 2 pm.
Unfortunately, I ordered at 2 pm. I checked Apple early and saw the date was 2 wks. I was trying to order from ATT because I heard they still had availability for 9-21 but I could not get the order to go through. I doubt I will see my phone arrive early.
