I ordered a 32gb black at&t model from apple.com on 9/14 at 2:55am CST. I had the October 5th ship date. Called apple the other day to complain about it and they changed my shipping to next day shipping and the delivery date changed to Oct. 1. Today I check my order status and it has been moved back to Oct 3.

Anyone else wake up to find that their original delivery date has been moved to a later date?

Yep, sure did.

Preordered 2, 16gb white AT&T, with arrival dates of 10/2. Upon reading this thread I checked their statuses, when everyone else was shipping, and its now 10/5.

I'm not bitter about it at all.

Evidently this is the new post Steve Jobs Apple..the folks that screw you, the loyal customer.

wow...so entitled. What has society become when we are so entitled that each person feels they deserve the first shiny new product to come off the assembly line. It's like apple owes you or something, requiring immediate gratification. These comments make me sick. You are a consumer with 2+million other consumers. Apple puts out a fantastic product but that's not good enough for you. Screw them because I didn't get it before anyone else. The world is full of spoiled little brats like yourself.

Your fault for assuming this. Plenty of people who discovered they'd no longer be able to get it on launch day through Apple found other means such as ordering through at&t or waiting in line.

And If I cancelled my order on the 20th so I could walk into an Apple store on the 21st only to find out they had none in stock, resetting my wait to 3 more weeks, then that would be my fault too, right?

It's really simple: Apple should be fulfilling orders according to who paid first. I assumed that stock would be available well before October 5th--AND I WAS RIGHT. The issue is that Apple chose to screw those who already paid and let walk-in customers buy them instead.

BTW, Apple didn't sell 2 million phones in one hour. That was the preorder number for 24 hours. I ordered as soon as the system let me and in the middle of the night. It's clear that Apple chose to hold back most of their inventory for the retail stores to generate huge lines and publicity. They didn't even set aside enough preorder inventory to meet one hour worth of demand in the middle of the night (3 AM EST) on a weekday.

If you don't like it I could tell you where to go and what to do with your comments but you, Mr. Romney and the rest of your kind are not worth it.

Apple DOES owe us something. Last week, we paid for an item that was not delivered. Instead, they are holding our money and our eligibility so that other customers can be accommodated. If I'm a "brat" for expecting to receive a product I paid for before someone else paid for that same product, so be it...

You're strumming the worlds smallest violin. Poor baby didn't get his phone first. Wow, get out and see how the rest of the world lives instead of being locked up in mama's basement.

The key to Apple pre-ordering is to get there at the exact minute of pre-ordering availability. They had no idea they'd sell out 2 million phones in one hour, no one did. Plus, with Apple being the most valuable and close to the most dominant company in America, product demand will get stronger.

So for the iPhone 6, I'm guessing we all pre-order *while* standing in line.

They didn't sell 2 million in one hour. They sold through their preorder inventory in one hour. The 2 million mark was for 24 hours. Keep in mind that this hour of preorder inventory was also depleted in the middle of the night (3AM EST). Most of these 2 million were probably sold after people woke up the next morning.

Drop the ego, it's a freaking phone, enjoy that fact that commerce and consumerism provide the opportunity to enjoy these gadgets. If you don't like it, you are more than welcome to cancel/return the product and get a Samsung.

You want less aggravation, wait a few weeks for the frenzy to die down. You are not that special.

Besides, you had every opportunity to cancel the order when it was shown to be back ordered and try somewhere else. You saw the deliver by date in the email and accepted those conditions. Get over yourself

Oh my god I feel so bad for Apple customer service sometimes. Being pushed back to Oct. 5 sucks (yes, we were promised the 21st) but **** happens. The 2mill sell was unprecedented, and Apple - believe it or not - is not as evil as this thread believes. That letter asking for money...wow.
Anyway, hopefully I'll get tracking information soon. It seems like everyone's just now being switched over to preparing for shipment, and a couple people have received tracking info within 48 hours (but not many, so it's hard to see that as a pattern or not), so hopefully we'll all be shipped out by Monday. For reference, I got a 16G black and will let you guys know as soon as I get tracking info. No luck on UPS.

Why is it "wow" to ask for a discount after being made to wait an extra two weeks? Are you saying that there is no value in getting the phone on launch day vs. two weeks later? If so, the thousands of people who lined up today to get one would beg to differ.

People write complaint letters to companies all the time but most make the mistake of not suggesting what it would take to repair the damaged relationship with the customer. I'm not writing Apple to tell them how bad they are--I'm letting them know what I think fair compensation for this experience would be. BTW, I didn't send this letter to the "Apple Customer Service" you feel so bad for. I sent it directly to Tim Cook.

I've spent about $20K on Apple products in the past two years. Believe it or not, Apple probably appreciates it when I tell them when I'm unhappy and let them know how I feel they can make it right. This is how successful companies operate.

Thank you for your helpful comments. I had no idea that I could return the product and buy a Samsung. I was also unaware of my ego problem until you eloquently pointed it out to me.

So, what's worse: me complaining about not receiving my phone, or you complaining about my complaining that I didn't receive my phone? Talk about an ego problem.

I've already stated why canceling the backorder (actually a "back pre-order") didn't make sense, so I won't repeat that logic her. Besides, I don't want logic to get in the way of your trite rhetoric--you seem to be very happy attacking everyone's responses.

At the risk of getting in the middle of something heated here, lol, I don't think those of us in this Oct. 5th situation are saying anything like "we're special, where's our phone?!", and pulling a hissy fit or temper tantrum. All we're saying, at least speaking for myself, is that we think Apple made a not-so-nice decision business-wise to take our money and eligibility, sit on that, and in the meantime say, "let's send most of the phones to the stores for publicity and let people walk in and buy them there, the preorder people can wait since we already have their money."

I don't think that's a good customer service decision to make. But I'm not Apple, maybe they have their reasons and had to choose between lesser of two evils or something, I don't know.

I only attack the Paris Hilton's of this world. You are spoiled garbage and need to be thrown out with the rest of the trash. The sun rises tomorrow whether you get you phone or not. Why don't you crawl out of mama's basement and do something meaningful instead of whining about a phone.

It's a good business decision. All those people walking in the store buy other things too. It's a brilliant plan to hype up store sales, sell useless warranties, and so on. This company is successful because they know how to work the masses. Regardless of the complainers here, you'll all be back for the next shiny new product. Apple doesn't just build gadgets, they build consumers and the elitists on this forum are programmed to do anything they say.

I like Apple, they're smart and innovative. My world doesn't crumble when I have to wait an extra week though.

And yes, we probably will be back, but guess what, we probably won't preorder again, which means Apple will have to divert even more stock to the stores instead of preorders over time, because of preorder customers becoming dissatisfied with the experience, and Apple not having as large a number to brag about over the preorders. So it does affect Apple's business decisions over time.

I also have some suggestions to Apple about not having to have people camp out or stand in line for many hours like that, when they could use a reservation system, a phone app to make reservations or hand out cards of a time to come back, or even give out those light up vibrating things like restaurants do.

Or people could show a little patience and restraint. Is there a reason why you need it immediately?

Bull on that...based on ALL previous iPhone releases and all marketing surveys Apple could've easily manufactured double or triple the stock they had. It's brilliant marketing on their part, sucks to be part of the preorder group.

No, I don't have a specific need, but since I've already paid for the item, why not place me next in line over someone who hasn't? That's all I'm saying.

Shipped! About 24 hours after it hit preparing for shipment it has shipped. Ordered at 5:25 am ET on the 14th, Black 64GB AT&T from Apple.com. No estimated delivery date but I'd guess absolutely no later than Friday.

Should Be on its way

I was in the same boat. I ordered @ 32 GB White @ 5:09AM EST on 9/14 and had the 10/5 delivery date. My status changed from processing to preparing to ship yesterday 9/21. I got an e-mail from Apple @ 4:22AM this morning 9/22 that it has shipped (along with the precious tracking #)! I would expect it would arrive by this Friday 9/28 at the latest.

I ordered around 12:00PM CST on 9/14, have had estimated delivery of 10/5 since then. Checked yesterday evening around 5PM and it's been sitting at "Preparing for Shipment" since then. I've been charged, and just waiting for it to change to shipped.

Just got the email from Apple and it says delivery on 9/28.

BTW, even though I have a tracking number and its shipped, I am incapable of finding my package via the track by reference method.

Still no CC charge, but went into preparing go shipment yesterday anyway. Either my bank is slow, or Apple is sending me a free phone, judging by everyone else's experience. Most likely the former I guess. I used a debit account which sometimes takes awhile to show charges even when used as credit.
