What? you serious? How else are you going to repair the phone? cause the back is removable from the front!

Apple doesn't care about YOU repairing the phone. They care about their techs doing it. And if they are okay with 100% of non software service being a swap because you can't take apart the phone then that's how it will be, just as it is with the iPad.

You mean like they did when Gizmodo Got ahold of an iphone4?

Exactly. It was a poo storm. I hear crickets from 1 Infinity Loop on this one, just like was the case for all those tear drop designs last time around.

I'll grant you, we're talking parts here, not a real phone already testing in the US. ...But that brings up another point. I don't remember seeing good iPhone 4 parts leaks. Even though they changed the whole design of the thing. Which makes sense, wouldn't all those parts go to making the millions of phones initially? Why do they need China Acme Crapo Replacement Parts Industries getting parts when they're trying to meet assembly requirements? I mean they're building whole new factories and buying up supplies from all over China just to try to meet current demand...let alone parts for a future phone. I suppose it could a genuine leak from China Acame Parts Industries and they don't really care too much about Apple's NDA...what's a few hundred million?....YouTube is totally worth it.

Not into it.

Looks crap. That bushed steel band just sits there doing nothing breaking up the glass.

On another note, if this were a legit part - wouldn't apple yank the video off youtube?

And have it going around that Apple had the video yanked so it must be legit. Not likely. Same reason they haven't rushed to have those possibly fake iOS 6 videos pulled.

What are the chances that the new dock connector will support Thunderbolt?

Eventually yes, but probably not just yet. At least not as the standard. thunderbolt isn't out there widely enough to support such a connector being THE one included. But if someone had the right machine and was willing to buy a DC to TB for like $50 it might be officially available in the near future.

----------

It's not like the original iPhone where they can preview months in advance - it would destroy existing iPhone sales.

Sales are crap the last couple of months before a rumored upgrade regardless of a preview. It's the nature of the beast.

I'll be first to replace mine for the extra benefits. A good excuse to upgrade accessories.

If there are going to be hundreds of millions of people pissed off about a new connector. Maybe a good thing to manufacture would be an adapter. Opposite of this http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD099 (if the new connector is adaptable to the old) lol

If Apple caves to the bullying of the (collapsing) EU, then the company is in trouble.

Micro USB is a terrible connector.
You get 10% of what the dock connector offers in terms of pin out compatibility.

So not only will it render your current adapters useless, but would also drive up the cost of new adapters.

What really gives me a "red flag" is that the nanoSIM standard was just approved. So I find it hard to believe an actual production part would have such a slot.

Why not. How much issue is it to reprogram a computer with new specs. Especially when there hasn't been rumors that production has started yet (perhaps waiting for this vote to happen). This could be a very early production part one of the first off the line. And if these guys are in Asia it might not be that hard for them to have gotten it the night before they posted the video. It's not that hard to slap your logo on a computer screen and set up a video camera etc.

Not for nothing, but when he says "It has an Apple here, and it says iPhone here," doesn't necessarily make it real. But he makes it seems like this is the Holy Grail of proof.

Listen, I can slap an Apple sticker and carve "iPhone" into an old rotary phone, still doesn't make it real.

But hey, I'm a cynic. So take this for what you will.

I hope this aesthetic carries over to the new MacBook Pro's

The raw aluminum look has been done to death at this point. I'd love them go to a darker finish like the edges of the iPhone 5.

You have a really short memory.

https://www.macrumors.com/2012/02/1...ay-and-dock-connector-cable-matched-together/

There's a difference between parts and an entire device found at a bar.

Three points.

1. That display leak came out far closer to release date than these leaks would (unless you're thinking they're going for a June/July launch). The later the supposed leak I think the more credibility you have to give it.

2. The iPhone is a whole different ball game. The iPad sells well, but there are far fewer people who can counterfeit such a large panel at this time. The iPhone is far easier to counterfeit.

3. Didn't we already know the resolution, and hence the retina-ish of the iPad 3, far before this due to code in iOS?

Ugh. I hate the headphone jack on the bottom. My first gen iPod touch had that and it pissed me off. Not a huge deal with apps that flip 180 degrees, but I know it's gonna get in the way when I'm on calls with the headset.

why the **** is it taller... it look hideous... the should have made it wider as well as taller -.- ****KKKK YOU APPPLLLEEE YOU'VE CHANGED

Sure?

I'm laughing at people who run around and phone with their galaxy note... It looks like a big board they're trying to push towards their whole face.

I basically have to agree. I've seen several GN's around and it looks totally bizarre seeing them used as phones. The only guy I've ever seen that didn't look like a moron was one using a bluetooth headset to make a call while he was doing some web surfing. And thankfully he didn't pull the douche move of keeping it on when the call was over.

I just don't like it. I'm not saying that is ugly. It's not. But the 4 looks so much better.

Just saying...

Does it really matter? I mean, how many times has your iPhone even seen the light of day? Mine, like 95% of the people I know, lives it's entire life in a black rubber case of some sort. And when I see people with a make iPhone, I just shake may head because I know that either they're gonna have a banged up iPhone or a broken iPhone very soon.

Because genius, they made it 16:9, which requires making the screen wider, but not taller. Referring to the iPhone on it's side of course. So wider screen, means taller phone. Since you won't have to letterbox the movies anymore, it'll actually equate to a much larger size increase than it actually is.

Inductive charging?

I am thinking that the matte back is necessary for inductive charging. Also that could explain one of the accessories, an inductive charger.

This would make sense that they might do this at the same time as changing the dock connector.

This makes no sense to me. If you're on a call on the headset, you can flip the phone around any which way you want. And I promise the iPhone will be like the iPad and everything will flip around. The OS, any app, safari, etc.

But even if it doesn't, the bottom is a more logical place for it for me. Less strain on the cable. The cable isn't dangling down over the iPhone in the car or while you're holding it trying to talk and surf. AND when you put it in your pocket, the jack will be at the top since any normal person puts the phone in their pocket upside down. And then the jack can just hang out for talking, music, etc.

My guess is that they ALWAYS wanted it there, but the speaker/mic combo was in the way until they redid the dock, freeing up some room. That's why the iPod touch had it at the bottom.

It's really ugly, but then again that's what I said when Gizmodo bought the iPhone 4 prototype and it turned out it was the best looking iPhone.

I was simply responding to comments asking why Apple hasn't tried shutting these sites down yet by pointing out that the same thing happened with the iPad, with more parts. Apple doesn't shut down parts leaks like this because it would just serve as confirmation. Illegally obtaining a prototype phone is a different story. I actually deleted that post because I thought I might have been responding to the wrong person, I'm surprised you saw it.

No way will Apple announce the new iPhone at WWDC. Especially if we're getting new Macs. They're not going to announce all of that in one quarter. What would they have for Q4 then?

Those that say 'no way' often look dumb when it happens.

IF the hardware isn't going to be released until the Fall and there is nothing in iOS 6 that would leak the changes then yes you are probably correct.

But if there is something in the software that would leak the hardware then yes they will announce at least those bits to avoid having some developer do it before them.
