I agree but your is just brand new
Yeah, so? Use as many data points as you can gather and plot capacity versus age and you'll have a pretty general view of how battery capacity degrades over time. Every data point is useful.

I think it's not really linear ... And again I warn about the grossly accuracy of this software.

It's probably not the software that is inaccurate, but the battery reading itself (if I had to guess internally done by iOS itself).

Just relax !
Variations are perfectly normal, and the software is not that precise ....
Your battery is brand new and healthy. Check it again in six months from now.

----------

You are about 85% of designed maximum capacity.
This isn't bad in a general meaning, but what puzzled me is your cycle count: almost 400 cycles in 6 months is waaaaay to much. Do you completely depleted your battery and recharge from zero twice a day ?!?

Not normally from Zero - I normally let it run down to about 40% and then charge it but I normally charge it at least twice a day because it dies after about 3-4 hours of usage. Do you think I should get the battery replaced? I thought it may be faulty but I'm not sure if there is a way to tell.

85% after 400 cycles is not a faulty battery ...
Your usage is just fine.

14 month old iPhone 5:

CycleCount: 370
DesignCapacity: 1430
FullChargeCapacity: 953
Status: Success
BatteryCurrentCapacity: 100
BatteryIsCharging: true
ExternalChargeCapable: true
ExternalConnected: true
FullyCharged: false
GasGaugeCapability: true

Still under AppleCare+, so I will stop by the Genius Bar.

38 month old iPhone 4. That thing is a beast.

CycleCount: 750
DesignCapacity: 1420
FullChargeCapacity: 1332

Yes, your battery is almost gone ...

Wow, great battery life !
750 cycles are quite a lot.

Some of you said that it isn't good to keep it at 100% but my Apple store bought Bose dock speaker keeps it at 100% while playing music, is this bad then?

It's ok as far as you don't keep it at 100% for many hours a day.
If you keep it in the Bose dock for 2-3 hours while listening music then disconnect and let it drain for a while, it's perfectly ok.

I'm pretty sure I will have one of the worst cases of battery degradation in this post. Mine is a pre-order iPhone 5, arrived the day everyone else got them in 2012.

CycleCount: 643
DesignCapacity: 1430
FullChargeCapacity: 778
Status: Success

Toasted. I can get at most about 1 hour 30 minutes of usage. On Wi-Fi. That said, since I do my own repairs, I have a battery on order which should be arriving this week. We shall see what happens then.

thank you!

i got 3 recharges and at 1401 already is that bad
You might want to read through most of this thread to get a better idea of it all. 3 cycles is way to early to really look at anything, it will take at least a dozen if not more cycles before the battery will really reach its potential, and even then you'd want to check it a few times over a period of a week or two to see what numbers you get to have a better idea as each time the measurements are mostly based on voltage and are never truly exact and can vary a bit.

A few things I would like to add to this thread:

My personal experience is that the iPhone 4 and 4s have a much higher quality battery than the iPhone 5. My iPhone 4 has 527 battery cycle and still has 91.8% of its charge capacity, but My iPhone 5 has 438 battery cycles and only 76.7% of its charge capacity. I have used/charged both the same way. I suspect that to cut costs and improve margins, Apple used lower quality battery on the iPhone 5.

I went ahead and exchanged my iPhone 5 for another one. This one had only 1 cycle on its battery. I am going to charge this one differently than the 4 and my previous 5. I am not going to wait until the battery drains below 20% and I am not going to charge it overnight. I will pull the plug once the battery hits 95-98%.

Luckily for me, I had an extended SquareTrade warranty. They will reimburse me for the 293$ I paid for the new phone. I also paid $50 deductible.

643 cycles in 16 months are quite a lot

My iphone 5 (bought first day it was out) keeps shutting down at around 20 to 30%. Finally tested the battery just now:

CycleCount: 327
DesignCapacity: 1430
FullChargeCapacity: 914
Status: Success

What are with these iphone5 batteries? This is the first time I've had an issue with an iphone battery. Since I'm out of warranty, I bought a new battery from iFixit and it should fix all the issues I've been having lately (hopefully).

The cycles are probably abnormally high because I have been dealing with this horrible battery life problem where the phone literally lasts 2 hours which means I have to keep recharging it over and over to last a day.

Yes, I'm under the impression iPhone 5 battery was more fragile than usual ....
Tbh mine was just short of 300 cycles at 1200 mAh remaining, that is around 84% of maximum capacity, but I'm seeing a lot of ruined batteries on the forum.

Mine is showing pretty good capacity yet for 443 cycles. I've put the phone though it's paces also! I've drained the battery gaming many times and I ran a lot this summer with it using nike gps while streaming radio on hot days. Also I was jailbroke on ios 6.1 and I themed and had tweaks and the phone was great. Was still getting 6-8 hours of usage.

Enter ios 7.0.4

Right away I had weird percentage drops while using LTE but it was mostly unaffected when I was strictly using wi-fi. The meter would drop in 8-15% chunks then sit there a long time or just shut off then I'd power it back on to find it at the previous percentage. I've seen countless posts about this exact same thing. I've gone though a few full cycle charges now and it's gotten a little better but when I'm out and about using cellular data it still tends to do it once I'm under 50%. Funny thing is it lasts the same as before if I'm only using wifi. I get on average 7 hours of use if I'm at home on wifi and doing light things with the brightness between 25-50%. Light things meaning web browsing, Twitter Facebook and a few apps. When I'm out and about I can get maybe 3 hours on LTE doing the same things before things go haywire with the percentage drops and/or it randomly shuts down. Never had this problem on ios 6.1! I don't think I have a defective battery. Also my phone was one of those first refurbished ones from AT&T. Got it for 99 bucks. I figured it was one of those new ones that had a nick in it. Sure enough it had a couple in it! Big deal! So anyways I'm back jailbroken on ios 7.0.4 and still getting good battery as long as I'm near wi-fi!! Standby is same as ever too. Drops 3-7% overnight sometimes less or a little more.
