So at first glance the screenshot of my phone's usage page just looks decent. However, for 12 hours of the 17 hours of standby and for 4 hours of the 5 hours of use I was on 4G/LTE. My job requires me to visit clients throughout the day for which I frequently need navigation. I used my phone yesterday for 1 hour of Apple maps turn-by-turn navigation. My screen brightness is fixed at around 70%.

During the entire day I had 4G/LTE, WIFI, & Passbook location services enabled (for my Starbucks card). I also used two geo-fenced reminders for when I returned back to the office during the middle of the day for tasks.

All-in-all I have to say I am very happy with the battery life, especially considering that my iPhone 5 is faster and has a bigger screen than my 4S did.

To those here having issues or are not happy with battery life check out this thread on apple iPhone 5 battery life. It already has over 110,000 views and 1,600 replies. Its known that apple does see (some) of these posts and they sometimes contact posters with questions or ask if they want to install battery info logging on their phones. Not only do I encourage you to post there but also spend 10 min to call apple even if its just to let them know you have an issue. The more attention this gets the more importance this issue will get

Just something to keep in mind;

Some of these Apps that use location info are still running in the backround even though they have been closed. Be sure you close them in the multitask feature as well. Sometimes the UPDATES to an APP are usually the colprits as it seems that they are not checked as well by Apple.

Obviously you will get worse battery life on 3G or LTE..point is people were getting worse battery life before even on wifi...thats the point of posting the differences.

did people really think LTE wouldn't kill your battery?

Late to the party and sorry if i an repeating any point, but my battery life is just as bad and I am on wifi most of the day. When I turn off lte and use wifi it seems like the battery is much better. Anyone else experience this?

Sad as I have great "4G" non LTE coverage where I'm at mostly. No gaming and light browsing over cellular.

What are people recommending for getting better battery life? Restoring the phone or setting it up as a new device? I've seen different people suggesting both ways. Also will I need to be connected to the Internet?

Right now I'm at 40% with 4 hours and 15 mins of use.

Is this battery life good or not, I'm leaning towards no :(

LTE vs 3G battery life

Does turning off LTE really improve battery life on the iPhone 5? The official stats are 8 hours of browsing under LTE or 3G.

Got a replacement the other day from Apple. It has been downgraded from above 6 hours of usage to now about 5 hours.

I will "condition" the battery a couple of times and see if I can get back up to the 6 hour mark. I am OK with that number considering I have push email for 2 accounts, some notifications running and very few location based services. I also never use wifi and LTE is on at all times which is the killer

The AnandTech review suggest shorter battery life over 3G. 4.55 hours of Web data versus 8.2 LTE web data. Yet, I can only get 5 hours web data on full 5 bars of LTE or 3G. I am now at a loss. I disagreed with the ability of most of us to reproduce the 8.2 hours of LTE use and was castrated.

Just out of curiosity, how long did you stream and how much bandwidth did you use for that stream?

I streamed about one hour and 30 minutes and it used about 450-500 MB according to myATT app!
But I have to say, the quality was excellent!

I didn't even get a chance to drain it because I was in such a hurry to get ready for school...

That's usage without any cellular data, strictly WiFi (browsing, iMessage, YouTube) and constant music. Very happy with it!

I've had relatively decent battery life thus far I think. I'm usually on Wifi, and when Im at work I don't have time to look at my phone much less play with it. But today's the first day I really had a chance to sit there on play on my phone for an extended period of time as I sat and waited for my dad to come out of day surgery. I left home with 100% charge. I downloaded an album, played Devil's Attorney (2D turn based game for those who don't know it), a tiny bit of words with friends, Apocalypse Max (2D scrolling type shooter), and some zombie game I can't remember the name of, which I think used location to do some stuff. Ok so after 4 hours 20 minutes of usage of the above, the phone died. As it got to 10%, I stopped using it, but kept an eye on the battery, and it dropped 1% every 4-5 minutes if not less.

I have no idea what happened today! Apocalypse Max (which I'd only played in 10 minute intervals before) never gave me an issue. It's the first day I played devil's attorney or the other game...

This can't be good! Brightness was probably 30%, I have 2 push accounts...

Also I noticed the phone was on the warm side, even for the last 20 minutes after I stopped using it and before it died.

Well after a replacement I'm in the same boat. 2 hours of usage on LTE, Wifi and Bluetooth off, mail set to manual, and I'm at 60%. This is bulls***

You are not alone by a long shot . . . if this hit the media there would of been an update pushed by now. Last years battery fiasco with 5.0 took less than a month for apple to update to 5.0.1. Heres just a small thread /S at apple's website iPhone 5 battery life

I think there's a bug when on the cellular network.

After sitting idol on wifi for 8 hours today the battery dropped 4%.

I went out for 2 hours, not touching the phone a single time, not even to check the time. When I get home I turn it on.. dropped 30%!

Bluetooth & LTE is turned off and nothing is using navigation while idle.

Here we just have 3G, and after many attempts to find what was draining the battery, today when i unplug the phone i disable the mobile data and keep the 3G and it was a night and day difference. On my phone the battery draining fast was the mobile data even when its a sleep, i lost around 12 to 15% charge in a night with mobile data on and now im at 61% with 4.5 hours of usage and 16 hours stand by. Maybe a bug or something...i dont known.

you'll have 8 hours+ of usage if a part of it consists of usage whilst the screen is off (ie music) or if you're on wifi.

under heavy use (3G/4G data usage, gaming), i reckon 4 - 5 hours is the norm.

just my AUD$0.02.
