but it looks like cellular data is off?

there is no problem, that's why.

people expect 8 hours battery life when they use battery hogging apps like twitter, instagram, GAMING, etc.

use stock apple apps, and you'll get what apple has promised.

listen to music all day, and you'll get 10 hours battery life like seen on here.

A) Safari is a stock Apple app.
B) when Apple advirtises 8 hours of browsing time on LTE and the majority of people are getting 4, I'd say there's a significant discrepancy there.

No I think something is definitely up. Apple's battery claims have always been true except for now. I'm doing everything I did on my 4 but still am experiencing unimpressive battery life. Granted I'm probably pulling more data being on LTE but even Apple customer support said that I should be getting closer to the 8 hours. It's really annoying and it's even more frustrating that Apple hasn't publicly addressed the problem yet.

I've had my iphone 5 for about 3 weeks now and I've noticed something with the battery. The battery meter is not accurate. Charging it for 2 hours and having the meter show 100% and charging it overnight makes a difference. I've noticed that if i charge my phone for about 2 hours the battery drains really quickly but if i leave it on the charger for about 8 hours the battery life last much longer.

This is the result after a restore and this is now my 3rd iPhone

What should I do? This usage isn't anything heavy at all.

Reboot. I find that processes sometimes run out of control causing heat and battery drain. Do a hard reboot to fix.

So this is my battery life with everything on. Is it ok ?? I already restarted my iPhone 5 and tried draining the battery twice. If this is not alright then should I get a replacement? Would apple give me a replacement for that ??

Your bluetooth is on. Wifi is on. And location service currently on too?

No wonder you get 4 hours. Try switching those stuff off.

Hi

Can I have some opinions on my battery life. This is after my first full charge overnight and 1 power cycle of the phone.

It all depends on what you have been doing. Please list the usage.

then technically that doesn't count everyone is complaining about battery life with cellular on whether they use Wi-Fi with it or not. Of course you're going to get good battery with cellular off.

Mine has been dropping shockingly quickly and that's doing virtually nothing. I, on holiday in the UK at the moment, data roaming is off and in 3 hours the phone dropped 8% in 3 hours and apparently 9 minutes of usage.

[edit]

I have a couple of screen shots to post of a 4S vs the 5 but can't post from my iPad at the moment, basically the 4S is doing much better than the 5 in similar setup (airplane mode, wifi on, same router, in pocket)

Are you stupid?

There is a very small difference in Wifi and 3G. Celluar is 3G, okay so you better just write 3G. Thanks.

Look up your facts before you corrupt this thread.

Why not just shut the phone off then?
Bluetooth is on? Wifi is on? Location svc on? Scandalous!

Last time I checked these things are normal phone features. iPhone 4 with iOS 5 had better battery life with bluetooth, wifi and location on, compared to iOS 6.

no but apparently you are. 3G/LTE uses way more battery than Wi-Fi, ask anyone on this forum. & I didn't write 3G because cellular is LTE too....it's people like you that corrupt the newbies on this forum.

Fwiw

I charged my phone right before I went to bed last night and unplugged it and started playing music to drift off the sleep with.

Over the day:
-continuous music playback
-checking in via foursquare
-email checking
-facebook checking
-took a series of pictures
-was using wifi half the time and cellular the other half.
-this is the best life I've gotten out of an iphone yet.

Just write 3G then. You know apparently nothing of it when you say " oh dude your cellular is off. Yes, the 3G maybe a little bit more but it's stupid not to use the wifi around you if you don't live in a desert which I suppose you do. Caveman.

Get your facts right before you sprinkle all your diarrhea over this forum.

We are giving out valuable information regarding our battery life here. Half the posters use Wifi. So please. Please. Go away.

Battery results for perspective

These helped me put my battery life into perspective. I found it kind of interesting From AnandTech.

Safari browsing:
WiFi 10.27 hours
LTE 8.19 hours
3G/4G 4.73 hours

Game:
3.15 hours

These numbers fit with my experience. Signal strength is a big one, of course, as it affects how long it takes to load a page. And how long you spend on a given page, and on and on. And music is practically "free."

Just my own personal experience.

I found the battery life on the iPhone 5 to be unacceptable. I used my iPhone 5 exactly like I used my iPhone 4 and the battery on the 5 was dying prior to the end of my work day.

My 1st iPhone 5 didn't seem to be lasting long enough. Went to the Apple Store. Hardware diagnostic checked out okay. They reinstalled firmware. Set it up as new phone.

Here are screenshots from that device, then on. Same problems.

I couldn't bank on more than 5 hours of Usage. I don't even know what qualifies as Usage but I assume it's just whenever the screen is on or audio or something is streaming.

I took that device back to the Apple Store and had full expectations of returning it but they offered to replace the device. I wanted it to work so I thought I'd try my luck.

Here are screenshots from that my 2nd iPhone 5. Same problems.

Long story short, I took it back to the Apple store for a full refund. They obliged. I'm back up and running on my iPhone 4.

I was reverted back to my old contract. Got to keep my upgrade eligibility and the only inconvenience was minor in that I had to go to an AT&T store to get a new sim card for my 4. Once they deactivate a sim card, apparently it's for good. No problem. AT&T really was good about this whole snafu.

Waiting it out on the sidelines with my upgrade eligibility and money I shelled out for the 4. Was not happy with my iPhone 5 experience specifically due to the battery. At the end of the day, I never expected that the battery life on the NEW device would be shorter than that on the EXISTING one I already owned.

Still can't get past 5-6 hours of battery life.

Did you try restoring the phone as a new device? No way you should be getting 3.5 - 4 hours.

I've read all the threads, the tips, the suggestions and tried everything. Restoring the phone as a new device was the 1st problem solve attempt. Had no luck with that. The battery drain was befuddling. Hence, the return.
