Lol what innovative new features? Inferior maps service. Small screen with poor colours. Faster cpu with a locked down OS and no file system access. Crap battery that can't be removed. Poor storage options that are very overpriced.

It's thin? The only thing I like to be thin is my girlfriend. My phones have never been fat

You sound butthurt. Inferior maps service? You haven't even seen the full iOS version. Small screen? No. Poor colours? No. Faster CPU? Yes. Locked down OS?YES, which is why people like Apple because they don't have to deal with **** they shouldn't have to. Crap battery? No. Poor storage options? 64GB is the same as the S3 with an SD card mate. Overpriced? No. Metal costs more than plastic. Samsung didn't have to design their OS either so that saves money.

Geekbench scores very a lot depending on how the phone is configured the international galaxy S 3 scores as high is 1800 +.

But don't forget that Geekbench takes advantage of multiple cores. Many tasks we do on the phone depend much more heavily on the single core performance and iPhone 5 is much ahead of everyone in that regard. Which means iPhone 5 will probably feel faster than any other phone on the market in the actual usage, combined with the iOS.

Then we have graphics benchmark which isn't out yet but probably will be dominated by A6.

Fair enough, but at least Apple gets what is in the iPhone right.
Sure others can throw everything on the table and claim their phone has more but usually you're just left with a messy pile.

Not really. It all works fine. I like running custom roms that give you the choice to install what ever features you want and remove the ones you don't.

Iphone works fine for what it is. It's always going to be a good device. But people eventually want more and apple can't offer more. They actively stop it.

The quad-core 1.5 GHz Exynos 4142 chip in the Galaxy S III reaches a score of 1560. The new dual-core A6 chip reaches a score of 1601.

So this A5 chip is faster than the chip found in the Galaxy S III.

What are the scores for the dual core chip in the american s3? I could care less about the quad core oversees.

half the cores running at a lower clock speed, half the RAM. It still outperforms the S3. That tells you something about attention to detail :p

To be honest I would t worry about the performance of the cpu it hardly matters in an iphone anyway. It's so locked down you barely get to use full power anyway.

That may explain your stance. You don't seem to care about actually running software on your phone. There is nothing stopping software on an iPhone from fully using its CPU and GPU- to say otherwise is one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a tech forum in quite a while. You're just using things you don't like and inserting them into irrational, made up explanations.

"Who cares if the iPhone is light weight, the icons are rounded!" -expecting that from you next.

Go check how much a 64gb iphone is and thats not a rip off? Lol

Battery in the 4s is terrible. Wouldn't last me a day with average usage. Maps in ios sux vs Google even a fan boy can't deny it. Go check the beta testers forums.

Metal costs more? Have you seen the price of the iphone to build? $168. And they want how much for the 64gb model?

Thats right, Apple stops this for the benefit of the user experience. Not everyone is a hacker running illegal software.

It doesn't beat a Galaxy S III running android jellybean.

For reference, the quad core Tegra 3-powered Nexus 7 scored a 1591 and the quad-core Samsung Galaxy S III scored 1560 in the test narrowly missing the new standard for mobile devices. (Note: Galaxy S3s running Jelly Bean still outperforms the iPhone 5)

I am glad to be of service, then; because I am tired of reading loads and loads of posts from people who do nothing more here than bashing Apple just for the sake of it.

In other words, they are trolls. And they must be weeded out of a dedicated Apple forum such as this. I truly miss the days when MR used to comprise knowledgeable, bona fide Mac and iOS users; not kids brandishing their copycat Androids and pretending they all came out of legitimate R&D.

You don't have ANY right to tell people to leave these forums just because they aren't 100% OSX/iOS users. Also, no matter how much the Android fans are trolling, NOTHING gives you the right to insult and treat this forum's users like crap. You probably should re-read the forum rules, and especially these parts and think again before posting yet another attempt to start a flamewar.

Instantly Bannable Offenses
These offenses can result in temporary forum suspensions or permanent bans. If you get a warning, heed it!

1. Insults. Direct personal insult of another forum member (e.g., "You are an idiot.") and other name-calling. Why? Because this isn't grade school. People should be able to discuss or even dispute other's posts without insulting people. You may dispute somebody's opinion but not attack/flame the person who stated it. There are a lot of other non-direct-personal insults that won't necessary get you banned instantly, but depending on the context/nature may lead to post editing, post deletion, warnings, or time-outs. They include telling people to shut up and being extremely or repeatedly rude or sarcastic. It's not your place to tell other users they are not welcome; if they follow the rules, they are welcome. Bottom line -- don't try to tick off others and don't make discussions unnecessarily personal. If somebody else insults you, report their post; their post does not give you a license to break the rules by returning their insults. Although we do not read Private Messages sent between forum members, the rules for appropriate and inappropriate content apply to them as well.

6. Trolling. Do not post in order to anger other members or intentionally cause negative reactions. For a given post, this can be a subjective call, but a pattern of such posting or an especially egregious case will get you banned.

If you had any way to monitor cpu usage on the iphone.. Which surprise surprise apple won't let you. You would see that in most situations the cores are running at way below max speed. To notice cpu performance you need to be doing sustained load for a period of time.

Another note to consider, is that when an Android phone is optimized it will perform much faster then it does out of the box. Apple seems to be more efficient in providing the out of the box performance.

It really doesnt. Over here its like £80 more to get an iPhone 16GB over an S3 which has been out a while now.

true sorry, they used to be like a lot of money unlocked now they are pretty much on par here to, but my point still stands saying something sucks (either way) because of pure benchmarks is silly.

I'm getting 1800

Wait! found something out. Apparently you get better scores when plugged in. I tested it 3 times now with two phones. Plugged in they scored around the 1790-1800 range, unplugged they scored between the 1560-1595 range.
It has to do with power management. If you disable power saving functionality, you can get the same scores unplugged, albeit with a significant hit to battery life.

That's incorrect. If you're a developer you can run Instruments and see the cpu usage of all of the processes running on the phone. It doesn't have much use for regular users since the OS doesn't generally allow runaway apps to sap the CPU and battery.

Of course the cores are running way below max speed in most situations. Hello? That's the same for every modern computer! Do you think the cores in a desktop PC are always running at max speed? Of course not. *can* they run at max speed if fed a cpu hungry application? Of course. The iPhone is no different there.

Kind of shocked by your statement. Since you have been around since 2009 I would have thought that you would have seen the iPhone Hacks thread. BTW flashing ROMs all the time is exactly what I want to get away from. After 4 years of making them for guys like you with very little incentive other than a thanks button it's going to be nice getting on with my life.

Indeed it is. Sofa rockers I think.

I hack my Ipad 3 and it's nothing but hassle. It's broken most my legit apps now due to the JB api which cannot be beaten it seems.

Android has a great Dev community and seems to be growing stronger. Jb is treated like a bunch of criminals and is getting weaker.

True Mac users do NOT use Android nor develop for it.

Says who? You? I have 2 iPads (a personal one and a work one), a couple iPods and my iMac.

I have a Windows 7 laptop because that is what my work gives me and an Android phone because I wanted 4G LTE when I upgraded last year.

I'd say I am just as much of an Apple fan as you, but am not so hung up on it that I can still enjoy what other companies have to offer. It's not some sort of holy religion to me.

Looking up the list of the competition that would mean that - if these numbers are true - the iPhone 5 would be the fastest phone on the market.

Nothing infuriates me more than Fandroids looking at spec sheets to determine what is better. OBVIOUSLY Android phones need more under the hood to compete with an iPhone with lower raw specs. That is clear.

The link to the Android list:

EDIT: Its even beating their tablets. The only thing that comes close is the Nexus 7 and the SIII but the iPhone beats them both.

Note 2 is probably fastest phone...
