All they can sell you is a place in line (which you can give back to them for a full refund). I'm sorry if your BB wasn't up front about you about this, but mine was. The manager "expected" but "couldn't guarantee" my phones would be available on launch day. And lo and behold, 50% of my phones are available.

Personally I find this preferable to standing in line at Apple for 14 hours without a preorder (like I did for the iPhone 4), or setting an alarm for 3am so I can buy a phone and have it shipped to my doorstep today.

The unfortunate truth is that with a launch this big, and with demand far exceeding supply (which is already ridiculously large), you have two choices:
- Have patience, and get your model when your number is called
- Explore many alternatives, most of which are rather unpleasant, to procure a phone today

You need to be extremely lucky to put in the minimum effort and get a launch day phone with no fuss. I consider it a minor miracle that I even got one of my phones, given that I placed my order at around 2:30pm on Friday.

I got mine from Apple, so no problems here. And yes, if they are being totally up front about it, that's fine. But most most Buys are not, they just want your money.

well I was the first customer there this morning and no 64gb... just should have ordered from apple like I normally do...

also interestingly enough I decided to call a few local AT&T stores, the first one I called the lady picked up instantly saying 'We don't have any iPhone 5's thanks bye' before I even said hello...

Hi! Sorry, I didn't see this until just now. My Best Buy is in Southern Pines, NC. I got there early and they went ahead and processed me, so now I have this delicious black and slate baby in my hands. w00t!

Anyway, one fellow walked in hoping to buy one, who had not pre-ordered. Best Buy got zero shipment of extra iPhones -- only the pre-orders, and they said they didn't even get enough to fulfill all of those. Just an update.

No worries. I just came back home with my new phone. Took about 40 mins. All AT&T were gone and they only had Verizon or Sprint left over for walk in. Glad I pre-ordered and glad I was able to get mine.

Just called my Best Buy. Going to pick up my 64 GB baby! First phone EVER. Can't wait.

Also incase this sounds like some spoiled little kid...I'm in university haha

well, after some persistence, i was able to return the $50 gift card you had to buy with your pre-order.
they initially said they couldn't return an iPhone pre-order gift card after asking a GM, but when i pointed out that it clearly said gift cards could be returned on the pre-order confirmation, he allowed it. though he couldn't figure out how to do the return, but another employee took over and got the pre-order cancelled and the gift card returned.

they said they didn't get any 64GB iPhones in at all.

Update from OP: I also received the apology email from Best Buy. So I decided to call around. First Radio Shack I called had what I wanted in stock: 64G White VZW. Went in, bought it, cancelled the preorder with BB and now I got my phone on launch day and I'm a happy camper!

I ended up getting my 64GB white phone from AT&T when they opened this morning, but I looked into ordering through Best Buy. I was actually told by the rep that they had been telling people that they were guaranteed a phone on launch, even though they knew there was a possibility it wouldn't happen. That irked me, which is why I chose not to go with them. It's bad enough to give wrong information simply not knowing that the information is wrong, but knowing you're giving customers false information is pretty awful.

Had a brief conversation with one of the managers when I was looking at accessories for my new iPhone 5 and he mentioned that his store only got half the phones they ordered and by the sound of it, it looks like most other Best Buy stores did as well. I know all their AT&T orders were gone but they had some Verizon and Sprint leftover.

Wow that is bad. I'm glad my particular store has really good customer service and from management included. They didn't guarantee anything to anyone, which I appreciated. They did say the had absolutely no idea how much they were getting in until the shipment came. Like I said the manager mentioned they only received half of what they ordered.

Picked up my black. It's delicious and scuff-free!

The store said they didn't get a single white.

still nothing from best buy.

What do you guys think I should do... keep waiting or try elsewhere?

I've been watching Best Buy's website for checking stock near me. They may not have the model you want at your store, but they may have it at a different store 20 miles away. I've learned that if I'm willing to travel a bit and want to go to 32GB, I can get a White from Best Buy. But, I'm still waiting.

Nothing for me yet, either. Preordered the black 16g for Verizon at 3:00 on the 14th. I called today to make sure they had the right phone number to contact me by when it comes in, and they said they would email me. I will continue to wait (impatiently) until it comes in, though, because I have ShopKick gift cards to use on the purchase.

@forty2j, where in NJ do they have 32GB White AT&T phones? That's what I have preordered, but the Best Buy website shows all stores as being "Unavailable". I'd be willing to drive to get it. I live in South Jersey in the Vineland area.

Thanks in advance!

Too far for me and way too far for you. BB's store finder considers only linear distance, not travel time. When I last looked I was seeing 32gb white AT&T in Staten Island.

Edit: And, it's gone. There are 16 and 32 black AT&T's; all that's actually in NJ is a 16 black AT&T in East Hanover.

My local Best Buy came through! My wife got a call earlier today that they had a White iPhones 5 for AT&T. However, they only had 32 GB models there, and asked if I still wanted one. I said yes naturally, as with my $50 gift card I had from Pre-Order and the $50 gift card from the choose Phone Freedom promo earlier this year came into play, I paid the price of a 16 GB for a 32 GB phone! That more than makes up for the delay they had! :D

However, on one sad note, since this was an upgrade swap, when it was done, my wife's phone stopped working for data.... So I had to go to the AT&T store to get this fixed! After the fix though, all is working, so its ok!

Maybe there is still hope for me!! Did anyone pre-order from the Ft. Lauderdale store by US1 and Oakland?

I am the 1st that preordered a at&t black 64gb at my bestbuy in mt vernon wa. Ended up getting a email on the 20th saying they wouldnt have them so got 1 at at&t friday morning. Does anyone want my preorder for $50 lol. I still haven't heard a peep from best buy...

Frustrated

Best buy is really frustrating me. I was the first one to preorder a 32gb black iphone 5 and they still have no word on when mine will be in. They really botched this whole preorder process

I was the first one at the Aurora, CO store to preorder an AT&T Black 64gb iPhone 5... Still no word from Worst Buy!

FYI: I'm showing AT&T White 32's in South Philly today. Not sure how desparate you are. :D

That's not true unfortunately. When use the Beta version of store inventory it will show availability if they have phones physically in the store but those phones are ONLY for pre-orders. If they actually have any in store for store purchase, when you click on the phone you want, and put in the zipcode, it will show In Store Only in red letters instead of Unavailable. If you call the stores that show availability under the Beta version of store inventory, they will tell you the phones they have are for preorders only so it's misleading and confusing.
