For all the trolls...
Surface area of iphone
26.81 in^2 (4.87,2.31,0.3)
Surface area of 1/10 of a pencil point
(0.5mm/10/2.54/10)Pi = 0.0062in^2
0.5mm being the diameter of a typical lead mechanical pencil and 1/10 of that.
26.81/0.0062=~4300
So if my calculation and logic are correct
1/4300 of my iphone is nicked/stretched/damaged
Cheapest iphone5 $650 I paid retail.
Typical Porsche Surface area.
Approx 30000 in^2 (do your own calculation)
so If your brand new cheapest Porsche that you can find Retail for 75000
(30000/26.81*650)
has paint/widow/rim damage of 1/4300 of your total car, that you'd be okay?
Which translate into 30000*(1/4300)=6.98 in^2
Which also equal to Almost two quarter sized damage. (0.955*3.14)=3in^2
Bottom line
I will not sit here and purchase a Porsche with any damage, esp 2 quarter size worth of anything.
Naked since it was delivered at 2 PM on Friday and it's almost 1 PM on Monday. Not one blemish. I had it in and out of my pocket dozens of times Saturday and a few different people have handled it.
.
Just as an interesting question to throw out there. Would you, the customer, rather have a non mirrored/beveled edge on your phone and pretty much avoid the majority of these flaws?
It's clear from the pictures that this issues stems from the edging process. Weather it is due to the machine not being cleaned consistently or what, but would you rather have an edge/band similar to that on the iPhone 4/4S?

You actually believe that? They are losing money on these returns. I'm sure someone will be looking into the issue.
That covers the outside only. It doesn't cover the edge lip where the damage is occuring.
Could somebody tell me if this affects all black iPhone 5's or is it just a bad batch of them????????????
If you just bought a new 60" tv and while hooking it up to your DVR, Blueray, Apple TV, home theater system, you put a 4" scratch on the back of it, would you really complain in the manufacturer's forums that it's a horrible design?
Your car vs phone example holds a lot less water because of the price difference. If you're paying 50-100 times more for something, you hold it to a higher standard.
If someone isn't happy with their purchase they can just return it for a full refund. I'm sure there is a line of people that would be willing to buy it.
Had since 10AM Friday. In and out of pockets, no case. Normal use it's still flawless.

I put a bumper on my black iPhone 5 the moment I took it out of the box so I have no idea if its scuffed or not so it doesn't bother me.
I suggest the rest of you do the same.
