Anybody have experience with Invisible Shield film? They have a version that covers the entire iPhone 5. Front back and sides.

Everything... But the chamfered edges.

Haven't seen a single 'shield' (from any manufacturer) product that covers the diagonal chamfers.

Not to put you down or anything dude, more of a heads up in case you were gonna buy one. They offer protection along the back and sides, but if your chamfer gets nicked/damaged/starts to flake, then, yeah, it won't do jack. :(

I am in the UK and ordered a replacement, Apple said it won't cost me anything, they will send a brand new sealed black model out to me, it will have all the accessories and documentation.

There's no charge for this service, there's NO hold on my debit card in case I don't send the other one back. They are trusting me to uphold my end of the bargain.

3-5 days to deliver, they will send a courier in 7 days so that I can play with both colour models and choose which one I want to keep. If I want a few more days, I can simply tell the courier when I want him to pick the other phone up. Completely up to me.

I asked her if people send their phones back to Apple, she said most do, but there's not much they can do if you don't send it back. I assured her I'd send mine back. Had a very interesting conversation on returns and what people do to make an easy buck and theft. Suffice to say , Mine is going back with everything it came with , unopened , and as mint as possible.

Apple have been amazing, I have never ever come across customer service like this before. Not ever. It's incredible.

That's good to hear regarding the sealed box. Everything else is pretty much same as my experience on the phone to Apple.

Zero cost and I can wait to receive my replacement before sending back the other.

I didn't go to the lengths of asking about people not returning one of them! Did you make them nervous, haha. Surely no one could get away with it.

Apple would simply list the device as stolen on non return or charge you for it. Seems too easy for someone to fiddle this if they're willing to turn a blind eye.

The trust is admirable though, and certainly makes me feel better about Apple given the obvious cosmetic flaws in this model.

Just Received my black 64gb replacement today. It was not a new box, it was a replacement and it said "Inspected by Applecare".

The phone looked to be flawless, but there is scratch on the back where the edge meets the backing. What's even funnier is the replacement phone has the + and - volume keys reversed. I think I am just going to keep my original one and forget about it.
You have to admit the volume button mixup is a bit hilarious, despite the frustration and shenanigans.

Send these pics to apple and the blogs. This is embarrassing for Apple. NO quality control.

Yep that's why I said funnier in my post, wasn't too mad about it. But combined with the scratch, I'd rather send it back.

I sent pics to the Applecare rep that I talked to earlier. He was pretty surprised.

Has anyone in the US received this option. I have been told on 4 separate calls that they will NOT ship me a replacement without credit card authorization unless I want to send mine back first

lol no, I was pretty open and honest when asking questions, we were talking for over 20 mins, had a good laugh.

The lady I spoke to said some people really think they deserve freebies. She said they either want to keep the box and headphones with the stickers and just send the phone back. Or they say: "Oh my son/friend/sister accidently dropped the phone on the way to "wherever" guess I can't send it back now"

She also stated that Apple will offer freebies if a customer is particularly upset , freebies such as the free lightening adapter etc. But even then some people "want more" and "Push their luck"

The way she acted, it was no big deal to Apple, that if the phone didn't come back, they were not going to beat it out of you in court or charge your card. They will simply send you a bill that will ultimately end up in the trash and forgotten. It's bizarre how trusting they are and I don't think some thieving idiots deserve it , they will end up ruining great customer service for everyone else.

I think it's awful the lengths people go in order to "Steal" - she knows I will send mine back, I don't particularly like huge companies for reasons I won't go into as it's off topic, but I don't steal either.

I agree! the trust is admirable, and there's no company I know of who would ever do that. The way I see it, Apple is trusting you to uphold your end, they are giving you over a week with two handsets to play around with or make your mind up with, and they chuck in freebies, make everything as easy as possible by sending a courier to pick up the other phone. So why steal from them?

I hope you get to play around with both phones too! they certainly give you enough time to make your mind up :)

I wouldn't hesitate sending it back. Your new iP5 should be flawless! I have feeling iP5's manufactured in October/November should be coming out better.

Yep, you have to put CC if you are in US. No ifs, ands or butts.

No Cases

what really makes matters worse with all this scuffing/denting is the unavailability of iphone 5 cases from reputable case makers from day 1. only the otterbox defender case is available on amazon. other cases like commuter are on backorder and wont ship for a week or two.

I was waiting for the Moshi Ivisor protectors and Suncases, but they are not released for a while yet. I know some companies got the specs from Apple a while before the iphone was released, why can't they all do this! they are losing out on making a ton of cash. I've seen so many top companies selling cases by the bucket load on ebay!

Why in the WORLD is the policy different for UK/US?!!?!:mad::mad:

That really sucks , I was worried about that, and I asked her about the Hold on my card, she laughed and said "Oh no no, we don't do that, absolutely not, please don't worry, there's no charge on anything"

Wonder why the US policy is different?

Apple has really screwed up on the iPhone 5. Next to no positive threads regarding the phone. Problem after problem. If it's not marks on the phone then it's LTE using data while Wi-fi is on or the battery issues which seemed to have somewhat remained on the new model.

It's ridiculous, what's wrong with Apple? Where is the quality control? Is anyone checking these phones before their being sent out?. This has to be the worst iPhone launch since the Antenna issues with iPhone 4.

I'm in two minds whether to send my 2nd handset back.

1st Handset
There was a 1-2mm gap between the glass display and aluminium bezel. Returned for replacement.

2nd Handset
Has small scratches around the lightning connector. It's almost as if whoever has fitted the lighting connector hasn't done so very carefully, taking a bit of the ionized paint with it when forcing it in.

Not sure what to do? I reckon every phone will have a flaw somewhere, its just whether people spot it.

That's unfortunate dude. May I ask if UPS done the swap and if they contacted you before turning up at your door?

The second handset sounds nicer than the first. Naturally I don't blame you for not wanting any cosmetic damage, but I'd rather have flaws on the bottom half/lower end (so my hand covers it) of the device.

Any chance of a photo?
