I swear you spend your whole time on here saying negative stuff about Apple, if you genuinely dislike a company why waste your time posting in forums about them. The phone isnt out yet, only one review mentions a problem. It might be a coincidence. If not Apple will swap peoples phones.

I happen to be a huge Apple supporter, but I also express my opinions when I find something that is not up to Apple's typical high quality. If they don't hear from their customers they cannot take users opinions and preferences into account. Apple does in fact read MacRumors as you would know if you follow the news.

Just because I don't act like one of their shills is not my problem. If it's too hard for you to respect the fact we all have different preferences, opinions and experiences, then you should not be on any forum.

See how easy that is! :)

Call me crazy, but to me, it looks as it is dust on that top, right corner of the phone... I'm not saying that the black will nor scratch, but that is whay I see on that pic... Did you guys notice the name of the site that posted that pic???

I couldn't imagine Apple releasing a product that scuffs so quickly (and noticeably) within a few days of use. That's terrible.

Whether it really does scuff that easily, remains to be seen.

However, Apple has a history of using camouflage covers throughout their secret field testing, and cases can hide or prevent problems with antennas, scuffing, etc.

Not sure how they could get away from using cases while testing. (Not that the secrets are being kept anyway.)

I can tell you from experience with rc car parts that anodized aluminum, even the gunmetal colored "hard anodized" aluminum, can and does scratch, and there is no way its hardness is second only to diamond!

I've worked with those as well... specifically RC10s.

That's a bit different... you are smashing into things and bottoming out at 20 or 30 MPH.

Hopefully my phone doesn't contact anything at speed.

Slashgear also commented on how easy it is to scratch the chamfered edge. i don't think a majority of people will do so in a week, but over time i think this will be an issue..many cases even leave the bottom and top edge exposed for ports (headphone, charging, etc). I could see those areas getting roughed up a bit.

on the bright side, you could probably sand down the whole band and make it look like a 4s

Exactly what I was saying.. In those 2 photos its obvious he dropped it or rubbed another hard metal against it. That kind of scuff/scratch doesn't happen from normal use of a phone

This is an excellent point.

You know what else is easy? Not being patronising.

Sadly I won't be getting the iPhone 5 anytime soon, but I would definitely recommend a clear skin for the black version. I guarantee with that anodized back it's going to scratch quickly and look bad...

If the phone scratches like that from a drop, that doesn't really make it any more acceptable considering that most phones will face some bumps/drops during its lifetime.

How do you design a phone that never scratches or chips from being dropped? Don't drop your phone.

Ugh, just why I wait on these new releases. (and you couldn't give me a white iPhone... :()

Be sure to shake it till you hear the ball rolling around in the can.

You do know what you said sort of sounds like, "besides the gaping hole in his head the gunshot victim was perfectly fine..." :p

hehe I did think that when I wrote it, I missed out a vital point. I'm fairly clumsy and drop it at least once a day.

The one big crack came about once when I was standing at the top of some stairs and I raised it to my ear and it slipped out of my hands so went up a good few feet and then down again with force. Must of been about a 20 foot drop all in plus the kinectic energy of the throw. I would challenge ANYTHING not to be slightly dented and or scratched after that. :D

this phone will scratch from normal use along the chamfered edge. i don't think you'll see issue on the actual band, but that edge will wear quickly just from simple things like lifting from one side to pick the phone off of a table.

Yeesh... ok back to white it is...

That's unconfirmed. I was responding to the claim that it was unacceptable for the phone to scratch even if it dropped.

2 reviews mention how easy it is to scratch the anodized aluminum..and logic dictates that the edge that is routed will scuff much easier.
