My question is... are the buttons anodized aluminum as well?

I mean, they're protruding, and if you're using a case that doesn't cover the buttons, wouldn't those scuff up first?

In my opinion, your point would be valid if they had the phone for 6 months. You shouldn't see any wear (especially like this) on a device thats been used for less than a week.

I guess to sum: A phone in someone elses hands can look VERY different after X amount of time than the very same phone can look having been in MY hands (or anyone really) for the same amount of time.

Whatever.

Naked 4S since I had it (and is still like new) and the 5 will be no different.

I had a bumper for the 4 and it knackered the metal surround loads!

Why cover up a beautiful design?

Accidents happen, but if you are careful, they don't.

Screen protectors are crap as well, use it as intended. Never had one on my 4S and screen is pristine. Apple dont ship a screen protector, so it doesn't need one.

;)

Left pocket: keys
Right pocket: iPhone (naked)
Left back pocket: coins
Right back pocket: wallet

I should now patent my 'Method of using jeans pockets to carry items'

Dude, that's exactly my setup! :) Sometimes, I'll drop some coins into the iphone pocket by mistake, and it freaks me out.

I told him that I bought black and should have gotten white. How does exchanging it work considering supply won't meet demand. He said they would not turn me away if I have been trying to return it and they don't have anything to exchange it with. So basically, i'll go in 5 days or so after the release when crowds are down and inquire.

you think in 5 days the crowds will die down and there will be iphones in stock?

Why cover up a beautiful design?

Because phones are phones first, computers second and jewelry dead last...

I take great care of what I have, I don't abuse my 2012 Audi S4, but it is a car first, looks pretty second.

When on an assignment for a major magazine, I was in a coal mining bar. I went to the bathroom only to emerge to a bottle rocket war. They were flying everywhere, I had to get photos of it all and did. I got hit twice in the back and it hurt, left welts that lasted for days. I then got hit in the pocket that had my iPhone 3, it took a direct hit, blew a hole in my pocket.

When I looked at the phone, it looked fine but the back had a shallow crater on the black plastic that had blown off about the size of a dime. I was careful, but an accident happened, that is life if you actually live it to the fullest.

In reading how well people take care of their phones to the point of being obsessed, feel free to take offense to the notion that I think many people here do *not* have lives and live for their phones.....quite sad indeed...

I never have and never will buy a phone because it is pretty, that is like buying tires because they are pretty. You do not wear the phone like jewelry, it will not stay on your wrist, on a necklace or as a lapel.

The cellular phone has become more common on a human being than a watch, it is even more prevalent than a wallet, jacket or umbrella. So why these devices are made to look like a "Fine Watch" is totally beyond me...most people I know who live even semi-active lives have dropped their phone, scratched their phone, put their phone in a pocket with keys, put keys or change in a pocket that contains a phone, etc....

So when I read things like "Take Care of my phone" or "Not a scratch" or "Will be offered $50 for your phone because you did not take care of it" it just baffles me....what kind of lives are you living then? Are you 9-5 in a cubicle, then straight to your car to sit in traffic and then straight home to the polishing cloth for your cellular jewelry? Kind of pathetic if you are and it is extremely symptomatic of much larger problems in society if that is the case.

The chrome surround on my iPhone4 is scratched from the bumper being on the case, dirt and debris getting trapped in between and that is the way it goes. It has also been dropped at least 1/2 a dozen times and both sides of the glass are fine, the phone still works great so as much as I would like to get a premium for selling it, I won't so I will end up keeping it like all my phones for that reason and security reasons, a small price to pay since I only upgrade every 2-3 models, the 6S would likely be my next phone.

I just don't understand what has happened to society regarding their phones. No one cared when a home phone got worn, nor when a regular cell phone got worn. But now we are all spending $100-$200 more for phones than we used to and we get served up these over-pretty phones that if you live a normal life, read, not a insulated one, you will somehow put wear on the device you always have with you and is not in any tethered to your hand and never will be....your phone.

I look forward to the day when Apple starts to design the iPhone around the idea that we take it everywhere and it is exposed to far more possible damage than anything we use out and about....except for tires...

Resale value.

I just got $400 for my non-scratched 4s because I put dual screen protectors and a bumper on it. It is the original phone with marching box serial number.

This is why I take care of mine and still use it daily without treating it like a newborn.

It depends on how well anodized it is, and how thick the anodized layer is.

Case in point: I have a couple of mil-spec flashlights that are anodized black. They've been run over by cars, knocked into countless places, smacked hard against rocks and against other pieces of metal, and they still look good as new. The anodization on them is extra thick, and the only exposed aluminum are the parts where the manufacturer etched the model and serial numbers at the factory. And even then, they had to etch so deep that you can feel the sunken-in lettering when you rub your fingers across it.

Then again, these are the type of flashlights that you pay a lot of money for, but you only buy once. If something goes wrong them, even as the result of abuse, they WILL get replaced free of charge.

I was kinda hoping Apple took it to the same level, and got a black one. However... I'm really not seeing the obvious scuffing in those photos. So, I guess only time will tell.

Which ones do you have? Dereelight? Olight? Surefire?

That's what I did with last two iphone 4 and 4S.. decalgirl for stickers to protect internal case wear and bumper or cheap case for drop protection. This time being gorilla glass 2 thinking I don't need a cover screen.

No, but at least I will be looking at the manager and saying here is a device I bought from you that I want to exchange within my 14 day right. If you do not have what I want to exchange it in stock, you cannot hold me to the 14 day return policy. I'll take a raincheck on the white phone. Really don't care how long it takes for them to get me one...I just want to exchange it.

I got $450 for my 16GB 4S. Ultimately the one I sold was new because Apple replaced my original that developed a non user related issue under the screen. Both were mint though. I used mainly a back shield only. Dislike bumpers and don't like front screen protectors.

right I be in the same position that I can't live without having a phone so I can't just return it and be without one but same time I don't want to be told you had the phone for 30 days we (apple) can't replace it. I mean this is worst case scenario.

who cares! Most of these things are going to be in cases anyway....I seriously doubt you'll see that kind of wear with normal use anyway....

This looks like its going to be THE flaw of the iPhone 5. Every phone Apple has released has had a major flaw (except for the 3GS). Thank God I bought the white one.

Big deal. I got $500 for my non scratched 4S 64Gb, non bumpered, non screen protected phone. I take care of it. Mine was also the same phone, with the box and serial number. I think it looks tacky putting screen protectors, bumpers, and all these crazy cases on it. But hey it's a multi-million dollar industry for a reason. To each his own.

Is it confirmed gorilla glass?
