Can't wait till the black thing turns out to be a very isolated occurrence and all these people who really wanted black now have white just becuase of premature OCD.

All of us rational people on the other hand will put our phones in our cases as we would have done regardless of one or two online reviews and will never ever notice anything on the black band. We'll then proceed to sell them, in great used condition after we're done with them (not me personally... mine will go to my wife. but others will sell them in a year or so)

I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I'm going to go to the store early. Have been trying to decide between black and white, but I think black is the way to go for me. If this scuffing thing turns out to be real, might get it exchanged for the white.

I wanted the black to begin with as I have the white 4s and I am fed up with the black edge around the screen, the white is so distracting when watching videos and playing games.

Yet I chose the white iphone 5 , because I had a gut feeling that the black slate anodized finish was going to be a problem.

I think it's too soon to tell and we won't know until you have gone down in the morning and come back with a report? :)

These scuff threads are so dumb! The phone isn't even out yet. If it really is an issue AFTER the phone is out, it can be brought up and discussed. Until then it's not even an issue IMO.

This is the first year I have not preordered... Wasn't blown away by this years phone enough to give apple another 400.00. I'll wait till the 5z rumors start circulating which should start the day after the 5 comes out!

Me either, I was pretty underwhelmed. I know Steve isn't around to deliver a great keynote, but they could of at least done something amazing, maybe deliver a few amazing features for the iOS6 , or made the screen taller AND wider. The design has really P***** me off, it's so reminiscent of the first iphone and I hate the two tone.

Other than that, I do like the larger screen, the thin and lightweight feel this was my first purchase of a launch day iphone from Apple, it was more of an "impulse buy"

I am like those crazy chicks who buy everything near the cash register, I buy on impulse a lot, but I am trying to stop doing that.

I really hope that next year we get the holographic keyboard lol, yeah that video was amazing. This is what I want for Iphone

Yup, I'll report back with whatever I find.

I love your moxie. Us rational people use cases. Hilarious.

The tape idea isn't awful, as long as you plan on using a case.

The key again, is that if you are OCD enough to be concerned about this, that you cover the EDGES somehow. Every pic I have seen has been edge wear, nothing more.

Maybe Zagg will produce an edge guard like they did for antenna"gate" back in the day (so long ago...).

I really do understand the angst, but come on people... it's going to happen eventually with the anodizing... it always has. Name me one anodized product that doesn't show edge wear (or "chipping" if they don't color the edge metal... like the Nano for example). If you are that concerned you could always vacuum seal it, cut out a small opening for the speakers/earpiece/lightning. Or you could just put it in the box and never use it. That would work too!

I'll use it carefully, and if it scratches I'll AC+ it (hopefully at no charge ut if it's $50 it is what it is) and if it happens again just live with it until the 5S hits and swap it out using AC+ again at the last minute.

If it's widespread Apple won't charge the $50 either. They do take care of their customers believe it or not. Most of my friends who dropped their iPhone 4/S's (even when it was onto a pillow from no more than 4") and had the screen or back break met with very easy (and free) replacements when the problem was "new" and people didn't realize that glass was fragile (?).

I'm not concerned. No one should be, but again, it's a free country....

Rational meaning the difference between those who are flipping out/cancelling orders/changing colors versus people who aren't worried.

NOT

Rational meaning the difference between case-users versus non-case users.

I have posted, I would love to go without but it's not an option as my wife gets my old device and the least I can do is keep it in pristine condition for her... She then lets me take her upgrade.

good luck getting your phone replaced under warranty (less the deductible even!) for scuffs on the side... I think broken glass is different from some color rubbing off.

Just called my apple store and they said 30
Days no questions asked, good to know! even if I wanted to swap Colors, I'd honestly like to keep black so I'll try it out for a couple weeks and see how it turns out, if not I'll be getting white

Why change usage due to a design flaw? We're all paying too much to be this accepting. Maybe the hysterical reaction is overboard and it probably is, but there is a justifiable reason for being perturbed by an issue such as the one being discussed on this thread.

Pre-ordered from AT&T store and I'm back ordered. Will AT&T exchange for white when mine comes in, IF in fact it turns out to be a real problem?

noticed that too. The phone looks like it came like that. people are not going to like this.
This is different than what people are discussing in this thread. Like you said, it looks like the phone came like that, which isn't good but not surprising. You can't really expect every single iPhone 5, especially ones in the first batch, to be flawless. Back on topic now. What people are discussing in this thread is the edges becoming scuffed after light use. A factory fluke is one thing, but scuffing after minimal use is an entirely different thing.

That was my point exactly. My point was that most people would have slapped a case on anyway and would have never thought twice about it...

I see your point. For those of us who wanted to go "naked", this is somewhat disappointing. Couldn't have cared less if I were planning on going the case route, but that just isn't the case. Hence my attitude.

its the exact same chipping around sharp corners this just shows that even new ones around the sim edge(probably because they where already opened to put the new sim in) are left with this edge chip. its not going to be pretty.
