So much faith in Apple and their care in analyzing these types of issues; yet, you think they would be careless enough to send "demo" units that are somehow inherently defective??
I don't. I was responding to another user's post. There is no reason to believe that the units are in any way different. I'm very confident, unfortunately, that the black retail units unboxed tomorrow morning will exhibit the same scuffing.

...and they made out that the chamfered edges were a brilliant idea... I don't want these edges if it causes this problem.
That's the great irony. Diamond finish, baby.

If Apple sold food, I swear some people wouldn't send back a turd-sandwich.
I'm actually going to go into the Apple store tomorrow and see their display ones. I might give a quick scratch or two hehe.
...i want to see how the white even looks in person
YES! Scratch it up see what the black model can handle...This is my plan before decide to keep black or go for the white model. Plus i want to see how the white even looks in person
Me too! Hopefully picking up a screen protector as mine arrives at my doorstep in the morning hehe. Awkward moment when they ask us why we have sand paperHAHA.
I await your impressions. Unless people come back grossed out by the white model, I will more than likely move on that when things die down.
haha, im just testing its durability don't mind me...
----------
True true, should i open my phone when i get it or would they give me a hassle to return in within the 30 days for a white model?

Most people have indicated that Apple reps are claiming "no questioned asked" if you're within the 30 days. I'm in a similar quandary, but will likely load up the black model and just use it until I can locate a white in 32gb.
Thats what i was thinking i got a 32gb as well, two local stores told me no questions asked, and one told me 14 days....
They might not have any 32gb white models in until past the 30 days.... Hopefully they would take that into consideration considering...
If that is the case, I'd just tell them to take the phone back completely at 29 days and to re-order in white. No sense leaving it to the whim of a store clerk. Though I am sure that we will get on a list of some sort in order to secure an available unit when it came into stock.

Lou has some great close-up shots of the phone and I hate to say it, but it looks like this scuff gate thing is for real. At about the 2:38 mark in the video, there seems to be flaking around the SIM card slot.
So just use my black model in the mean time, and then when im up on the 30 days just return and place an order for white? Would this mess up my contract at all?
That is ridiculous to think that it is acceptable to use a black sharpie to "solve a problem" on a 600+ dollar device....
My carrier, Sprint, even puts on their T&C page that iPhone users have 30 days to return the phone and cancel the contract. I'm sure I'd have to fight them over a second activation charge, but I'm confident that I can win that battle.
I'd say check with your carrier, then use the black phone if you're so inclined. That is what I plan on doing.
