People don't realize that if they put the flash off center like that, it will increase side shadow tremendously...
Apparently, you have never used a point-and-shoot camera in your life.

Having a two-inch separation between the lens and the flash does almost nothing to create "side shadow." What it does is reduce red eye marginally.

Besides, "side shadow" is more flattering than deer-in-the-headlights lighting. That's why wedding/event photographers use flash brackets, diffusers, and/or bounce.

You guys just don't see it.

The moved flash can only be for one reason...

With the next gen iPhone, Apple is incorporating a laser canon with the flash.
If it was too close to the camera, it would cause lens damage. :apple:

Just FYI, small internal parts like front camera, rear camera, power button cable, data port cable, light censor cable... from iphone 5 has been leaked from factory in shenzhen and selling for about $20 a piece.

Steve jobs on the new flash - on stage - black turtleneck..

"so our friends in the industry have been placing the flash close to the lens creating washed out photos. Well we said we can do this better. Well we've been working out butts off on this new flash - looks great - no red eye - no washed out look - we call it - iflash - isn't that great guys?"

And before u say it my friends

Yes it has seams!

Haha well done!

This may yield better images, but if it looks like the mockup above, then it is not very esthetically pleasing :(

From all this, I can understand one thing.

iPhone 5 is coming soon. :D

September. Fingers crossed. :D

iPhone 4S will be the next phone.

The 5 will NOT come out till next year, no way.

The line up for September shall be iPhone 4S 16GB/32GB Black/White OR iPhone 4 8GB/Black.

The S will have the separate flash location, faster Apple A4 and higher clocked GPU - I do not think we will see the A5 until the iPhone 5 next year's June/July.

Seriously guys, yes flash away from the lens is better. But how much better quality u expect with the flash a half inch further away from lens. You guys acting like the pictures are going to be that much remarkable or red-eye will vanish. Get a grip.

Apple won't just put a better GPU and make it a little faster. They're not that lazy.

Ideally, you want something like

but it does make it harder to carry your phone.

funny pic :D

But ideally what you want is what Leica did with the digilux 2: a flash that goes upwards and reflects against the ceiling. It makes such beautifully naturally lit images, incredible! My pictures inside the house are more balanced and natural than those made during the day inside the house.

I guessing the move is simple... There's other new components in the way. I'm guessing the move of the flash is just plain a move due to space inside the new iPhone. Nothing more. There would be almost no photo advantage to the move. Too small of a distance to make a difference.

Plus, all the case makers get to make new cases! Manufacturers and retailers rejoice! :p

A lot of people in this thread should not go into the comedy business.

These are *not* iPhone cameras!

If these two camera modules are indeed to be built into the same device, it is almost certainly not an iPhone but an iPod Touch (theoretically it could also be an iPad, but the iPod Touch fits the product cycle much better right now).

And the iPod Touch and the iPad both just don't happen to have a flash.

The presumable back camera clearly lacks an auto focus mechanism and its aperture is just as small as the frontal camera's – in fact it looks identical to the frontal camera mechanically, which means it's a relatively low-res video camera of the 720p class with very limited low-light capability (high noise levels) as we know them from various iPods and from the iPad2.

The iPhone back camera needs a much bigger aperture (see the one of the iPhone 4 in the picture) to get decent quality at its relatively high resolution, even at reasonably low light.

Unless Apple plans to severely downgrade the photo camera in the next iPhone to the level of the iPad2, this is almost certainly the camera set for the upcoming iPod Touch.

They might potentially relocate the flash LED on the iPhone after all, but this is no evidence for that whatsoever.

Not Apple A4. A5 dual-core processor is correct

Someone has to make a manual connecting all these rumors.

NO iPhone 5, iPhone 5 soon, iPhone 5 in September, iPhone 5 NOW, iPhone 5 2012, iPhone 5 will actually be iPhone 6, etc.

Ya gotta love it, :)

Speculation is the heart of all rumors.

Controversy is the hallmark of Apple, and they, not us, make billions from it.

What's not to like...

iPhone 5 July-Aug 2012. New Cycle due to start of CDMA phone in Aug 2010. June releases are history. Period.

4s will have a Dual Core A5 at 1ghz. HSPA +, side to side screen, different cameras and flash, same storage, and RAM. I would go along with the 8g 4 except Apple is placing extraordinary priority on iOS 5 running on a 3Gs with missing feature sets.

You will see the 8g $59 Dollar 4 8g in 2012 with the release of the 5. This will be an all new design from the ground up. It will also be a World Phone with a 3rd/4th Gen Dual Band Receiver, LTE (as it will finally be up and running to most everyone in another 15-24 months), and other surprises.

My money is a Metal Case using Liquid Metal Technology, and weighing significantly less.

One thing's for sure, if the next iPhone is called the 4S, the one after that won't be the iPhone 5, it'll be called the iPhone 6, because it will be the sixth iPhone.

I dont think it'll be called the 4S, though, I think Apple has realised numbers alone are the most obvious and simple indicator of a new product.

Stereovision? Hmm Could be more insightful than you intended.

If there are only moderate changes to the iphone, I worry about it dropping considerably over the next year and a half until the following revision. Its pretty outdated right now, and boosting speed, and subtly changing a couple things is going to push many people into other phones

You think the next iPhone will have a CPU/GPU unit running at a higher speed than the iPad2 despite it's far smaller battery?

Steve Jobs: "You'll be happy to know that the new iPhone supports Flash. Oh wait; I mean flash. Sorry, I thought it was a new feature, Forstall."

When you can change the ISO,SHUTTER SPEED,APERTURE thats when you start taking better pics.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't like how it makes the back look

I completely agree that Apple has realized numbers work better. First the iPhone 4, running iOS 4; then the iPad 2. I would bet money on the next phone being the iPhone 5, running iOS 5.

Really, there have only been two exceptions to Apple's numbering scheme in the entire line of iOS products (and really the entire iPod series): The 3G and 3GS.

iPod Touch, iPod Touch 2nd Gen, iPod Touch 3rd Gen, iPod Touch 4th Gen
iPad, iPad 2
iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4

Hell, you can even through the iPod Nano and original iPod, which had no special naming as well, just the 1st Gen, 2nd Gen, etc...

The only reasons the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS are different are pretty obvious. They named the iPhone 3G the 3G because it had a 3G radio and that would be a huge selling point. Then they couldn't name the next phone the iPhone 3 for obvious reasons, so they had to improvise and name the third phone the iPhone 3GS. The next phone went back to iPhone 4 after they fixed their little error in naming the iPhone 3G.
