Slight tapering? Please say it ain't so. Can't be good for landscape use.

Exactly. It would feel a little awkward in your hand, but if you were to lay the device on a flat surface while watching a video it'd look even worse.

Not unusably bad, but bad enough that Jobs would have smacked some engineer upside the head for not thinking that design through.

I really hope this is just a rumour; but it's looking less likely. :(

Don't worry about it. Apple isn't that dumb.

I just want the new iPhone to come out already. I still have the iPhone 3 because I keep 'waiting for the next update'. I feel so outdated. D:

really? janitors and fire fighters? both are generally set-hours and you seriously think a fire-fighter uses a mobile phone to be alerted about fires to attack or the other things they do?

on-call work is like F&B attendants/kitchen hands who work crap hours (albeit good pay). Factory workers, construction workers or self-employed low qualified electricians etc who work out of their car doing dodgy work for low-income households.

edit: the only industry in the world which has an upperhand on the mobile phone world, of taking something consumers didn't need and turning into a false necessity is the bottled water market. even the cosmetics and beauty markets are below the mobile phones and water markets. although they deserve it, because they gain by hurting people
At first I thought you were out of touch with reality, but now I see that you are trying to evoke an emotional response from people and do not actually believe the things you are posting.

If these internals aren't that upgraded/there's still an antenna issue...I'll end up getting the 4 for cheaper when this comes out.

If not...I'll get the 5 :)

Maybe it's for the new iPod touch?

Can it be a possibility that the microphone is being moved to the bottom (like the iPhone) and it receiving led flash?

A lot of people have said that the tapered design would make landscape use harder. In imagining holding the device that would fit one of those cases, the taper doesn't seem to interfere, it could even help with thumb placement. What am I missing?
Also, considering the angle I use to change the mute toggle, it'd be easier for me if moved to the other side.
Oh, and does anyone think the iPhone will ever get Smart Covers? I could see Apple at least doing an in-house case design for this release, something more substantial than a Bumper.

Great. We have at least another full month of endless "Possible New iPhone Case" headlines. How boring this is going to get.

I just want to see a leaked prototype of the actual iPhone 5 itself :)

Looks like we might see one soon with all these cases leaking.

"apple would not release something that is awkward to hold."

Uhh, Magic Mouse comes to mind.

For some reson this screems aluminum back and I would hate that, if its a liquid metal back that would be nice. As someone said it might be the new iPod touch, personality I thought they might push that back as well because they didn't have the touch included in the back to school sale. I hope we get more rumors as to either assert this one or change it because this is a quite controversial design.

Counter-revolutionary activities

[...] In fact, three people were sentenced to prison in China for leaking details of the iPad 2 case design prior to its launch [...]

Mess with The People, go to jail. It's the law.

But just once, I wish Apple would release a totally bogus iPhone prototype to the case manufacturers. A 5 cm spherical "iPhone 6" or something, like the alien communication devices in "V". With strict instructions to not release anything about the new design to the public for fear of being shut out of future advance prototype previews etc. Then, of course, when the real iPhone 6 is released, it's just a thinner iPhone 5.

"Hi, I'm a Chinese iPhone case manufacturer, and I just got Punk'd."

So if it isn't obvious yet, it won't be the iPhone 4S i suppose.

Tapered design? Please say it isn't so. Holding the phone in landscape will feel lopsided. There are soooooo Manu bootleg apple products mare in china who knows what's real.....except Steve.

seems a lot more probable to be a next gen iPod Touch case instead...

but enough of these case shots, when can we get some clear iPhone 5 shots from Mr. Blurrycam?

Like I have said before.....

iPod touch will be discontinued and replaced by the "iPad nano" which will have this new form factor and come in wifi or wifi+3G/4g models with pay-as-you-go data plans. That's my belief on these rumors.

I don't think this design is for the next iPhone, but I do expect a redesign.

All the design worries about tapers and thickness will be assuaged by the official release. Here's hoping that Apple adds to its near-perfect track record of releasing products that simply look beautiful. No matter your spec/OS preference, it's hard to argue that Apple products don't look good.

However, no matter what design they end up going with, I really hope that the internals got a significant boost too. iOS 5 looks great [and the developers testing it now have wonderful things to say] and the design should look [and feel] very good, so with a new A5 chip, better camera, more storage, and increased memory, this could really be an amazing new product.

Steve doesn't like unbalanced hardware. A wedge design for flagship product????
Or Jon Ives... Historically... How many wedged designs have they produced...?
