O K - I'm sayin it again

Can you say Liquid Metal? If this design was in LM then much of the expressed concerns would be nullified.

Liquid Metal would provide more space inside cause of thinner enclosure. Which would be much stronger and harder than aluminum so no dents and scratches. LM is radio wave friendly - even conducive as an antenna itself.

Beside LM will look better than the shiny aluminum pictured in the mockup.

I agree, I'm not sure if I would like iPod Touch like (very thin, shinny back) design in a phone... I'd think I'd sooner have it a bit thicker and more battery.

Personally I think that being as thin as a razor blade isn't too practical. Sure it looks cool, but I think it will leave a bit to be desired in everyday life. But I like to have something that is easy to hold onto and not worry about dropping it.

Nice to know Android Fanboy are on the Forum ROFL.

Oh please. Let's not get emotional. Some of us don't have to buy everything Apple. Really now. My 3Gs is pretty much done. Barely holds a charge now. Yes it's done. When I bought it, it was clearly the best smartphone on the market, hands down (to me at least). But the landscape for smartphones has changed dramatically. The iPhone is no longer the one and only real choice. The Galaxy S got my attention, but not enough for me to buy one. But now the GS2 is truly an amazing phone. I just don't see anything coming close to that combination of hardware and user experience. My buddy had a chance to handle one in Orlando and I have to say his experience is what cemented my decision. He's on the fence with getting one to replace his iPhone 4. If it weren't for the fact he just upgraded to the iPhone 4 less than a year ago, he would be all in.

Just because an iPhone user switches to an Android phone, doesn't make him/her an Android fanboy. The same way owing a 3GS doesn't make me an Apple fanboy. I just want the best hardware for my money. All high end smartphones today "just work" so to speak. So the argument I used to have about Android not being polished enough just isn't true anymore. It really isn't. You just have to be open minded enough to see there are options, better or otherwise, it's your choice.

And the top 10 reason why . . .

. . . apple will go with Liquid Metal is because they no longer will be able to blend it to oblivion at the "Will It Blend?" web site.

Well maybe they could but it'll probably mess up their blender

I know this is MacRumors, but why give a guy who was so wrong on the iPad2 the time of day? That's not a rumor, that's pure garbage. I could do the same thing... The next iPhone will have a pico projector, 120GB capacity, 18MP CMOS camera, a 3D HD retina+ screen, and pop up Boston Accoustic speakers. Oh yeah, if you loose it, it can find it's way home. Pay me please.

I suspect that Jason was only wrong on the timing of the retina display ipad. And perhaps manufactures are gearing up for retina display ipad and that is what Jason was privy to.

I like bumping up the size... It's become mire of my mini computer than a phone - and seeing screen better would be cool. Or maybe it's not seeing, as it is having more room to touch the screen.

Unless you take into consideration that not a single one of those phones sell even remotely as well as the iPhone.

I was going to say something similar. Since all the best selling smartphones from the past 5 years all have 3.5" screens, I am not sure where the notion of monstrous 4"-4.3" devices are the sweet spot.

Ok, I already pointed out the annoyance of the fact the display is asymmetric when you want to use it in landscape mode but has anyone thought of how annoying that thing would be to hold with its shape if you wanted to use it in landscape mode?

I can just imagine how annoying it is to play any games that require landscape or even use it as a camera when you want to use it as landscape.

Symmetry for the win d*mnit!

Well to start off nice photoshop image of a teardrop IPhone. It doesn't seem likely that Apple would patent the Iphone4 and then go to a diiferent style a year later. Also would a tear drop shape phone be practical???? Seems like it would be more dropable. As for a bezel to bezel screen sounds good.
At best this may be a prototype.

I call BS, this isn't what its gonna look like, Apple KNOWS good looking tech and this is definatly not it, the screen to phone ratio is just not that aestetically pleasing. Too wide, why not make the whole assembly larger? Would be nice, no one seems to care. as long as its thin or thinner then the current iphone 4.

It would go from 326 dpi (it comes out to 330 with the kind of arithmetic we use here on Earth, but whatever) to 308.

That is probably more due to the fact that the screen isn't exactly 3.5". At 326 PPI the screen should be 3.55" - if you actually measure it you'll see that's most nearly the case.

This thing looks awful.

It would be top heavy, and extremely fragile, and the screen looks too big for the frame.

I would be extremely surprised if :apple: adopts this type of design (even less extreme) for the iPhone 5.

..this looks like garbage. I was hoping Apple would remove the home button entirely.

So how to get back to he screen? Four finger gesture on iPhone?

Doubtful it could be that thin. If you make the phone too thin the camera sucks. Just look at the iPad 2. I'm not willing to trade off camera quality for a thinner phone and I'm sure plenty of people are of the same mind.

Jason was like 0 for 10 with the SD slot, retina display, etc... on his iPad 2 predictions. What makes him privy to anything? Only wrong on the timing of the display? Really? LOL. That's like being a weatherman and saying there is a 50% chance of rain. Sooner or later you know the retina display is going to show up just like the rain. So that makes him some mystic shaman of :apple: knowledge?

I wouldn't be cool with the teardrop shape. I love the design of the iPhone 4 and would be disappointed if they went a different direction.

I hope it's not drastically thinner and lighter. The 4 at the minute is just right, nice to hold feels right.

I don't think the tear-drop shape is a good idea for a phone. If it's too light or unbalanced, it becomes uncomfortable.

Also, if the screen goes all the way to the edge, how are protective cases supposed to stay on... and not block the screen.

As for the Jester area... ha ha... gesture area... I like it. I think that Could be Apple's answer to a controller. The problem with games on the iPhone is that your fingers cover the screen on touch-based games. With a gesture area, perhaps buttons could be created... or mouse-like controls. But with 187 iOS devices out already, that's a serious fragment in game controls. As a developer, I would probably look compromise in game design... something that supports the new hardware, while supporting legacy devices.

But as a consumer, my iPhone 4 is still new... and so much more enjoyable than my Android G1... so I'm probably going to skip the iPhone 5.

^ how the hell does anyone find this attractive? it looks ugly as hell to me! and apple needs to do away with the fugly looking bezels on everything.
