nah there r better looking HTC out there by now, the new one they got (forgot its name) with the slide out keyboard is pure sex ^^

If it has a slide-out keyboard it's already fail.

The Gobi chip in the verizon iphone 4 supports it. If they use that for a universal iphone 5, the question is whether apple/at&t enables it.

Wondering why they don't if the hardware is there and the network supports it already.

Right, so with the bigger screen size, Apple has either:

1) Dropped retina-display.
2) Decided on a new resolution that developers will have to adhere to, given that DVGA (double VGA) has been in use for a year and HVGA was in use for 4 years (3 exclusively).

Yeah, I'm not buying in to either

EDIT: I did not read the OP, I'm a moron. Still, bigger display, same res? Pretty lame... Apple just didn't 'future proof' when they chose DVGA.

I doubt this rumour very much.

Mark my words, iPhone 5 will look similar to iPhone 4 and will be released later this year. It will carry the A5.

The A4 in the iPhone 4 is still perfectly capable and the phone is still one of the best on the market. The iPad got A5 and a redesign after a single generation because it really needed it, iPhone 4 does not, it was built to last and hold out for a while, possibly to skip/slip an upgrade date. The CDMA version is not long out the door and the white is due soon. The extra wait time will allow GSM/CDMA capability, perhaps even that LTE stuff androids seem to get wet over, in a single SKU. Maybe cheaper prices on NAND allowing higher capacities :).

If they're going to make it a substantial upgrade to the display, then I can't see them calling this iPhone 5...

The increase in number for each model has worked okay until now, but I don't know.. it's getting to the point where it's sounding stupid. I can see "iPhone 4GS" working, but iPhone 5 or iPhone 6? Meh...

And the design of the enlarged display in that mock-up looks ugly, in my opinion.

I would be really disappointed to see a metal backing like iPod Touch has. My previous iPods from the past are so jacked up on the backside with scratches and dents. I know I'm not alone with this.

I'd prefer if the iPhone retained a glass backing like on the iPhone 4; I think it's just so sexy. But if they were going to move to metal I'd prefer an iPad-style backing.

I really hope they don't adopt the shiny InstaScratch backing, that would suck bad.

I really like the teardrop design of this iPhone. Not too sure what to think about the gesture based home button. Could be a hit or a flop...can hardly wait to see a demo if this is the real deal. But like with all rumours, chances are it's not real.

Metal backing and reception don't go well together. The iPod touch is cleary no "role model" for the next iPhone. In this rumor may be some truth  but the mockup does not show the Apple style at all

Id be sad to see the beautiful iphone 4 design go so soon. I think it has at least another year left in it.

Dammit. Everytime I read these rumors I get all excited. Why isn't it June or September or whenever the iphone is coming out so we know the truth?

Do I get a bigger screen or don't I?

Thoughts:

Likely: same design as current iPhone with antenna tweaks, A5 dual-core chip, more RAM, 8MP back camera, 1.3MP front camera, 64GB capacity (max), iOS 5, incresased battery life, etc.

Somewhat Likely: "gestures", LiquidMetal, 4G (probably not till 2012, but who knows), improved display, etc.

Not Likely: complete redesign

That's what I'm betting on. I know I'm probably forgetting some things, but oh well.

Tell that to the iPad 2.

At least the iPad 2 is big. Thin, small, and rounded edges don't go together, like how hard it is to hold an iPod touch.

other than the decrease in the size of the bezel gaining larger screen which I want the rest of this photo to me is a step back not forward ascetically. Don't like the design of the casing.

Did Topolsky mention anything about that one cool feature....you know the one that makes little random spots of light bleed from the edges of the screen? Wondering if this quality feature made it from the new iPad to the new iPhone.

He's referring to inductive charging, not intelligent bezel, if I am correct.

FTA:

While the art we’ve seen shows some form of inductive or touch charging, our sources can’t confirm whether or not Apple’s working on its own version of cable-free juicing. There’s also a “swipe area” shown in the drawing which appears to be on the bottom and / or top of the device — that could very well be an NFC point, but that’s pure speculation on our part.

Wondering why they don't if the hardware is there and the network supports it already.

Because the hardware is in the CDMA phone on Verizon. The AT&T iphone 4 doesn't have the same chip. If the iphone 5 does, it's still up to apple and at&t to enable it.

Do you still think it's ugly?

I think all iphone mockups are ugly. Only the official iphone renders and pictures on apple's website seem to do it justice. I hated the iphone 4 from giz's pictures even.
