Is anyone here upgrading from 4S on AT&T? I've been eligible every year for the upgrade, but now it's saying not til may 2013 (unless I pay the higher priced upgrade). Just curious if AT&T changed their upgrade policy?

I'm on a 1400 min family plan with unlimited data.

Earlier orders confirmed 9/21. Remember, we don't know how many phones were actually made available to each territory. Apple has a very aggressive rollout (it will be out in 30 countries before the end of the month and 100 before the end of the year), and there were rumors of yield issues from display manufacturers. Plus, some stock is going to stores, perhaps a lot more this year like it was with the new iPad. Pre-orders slipped in no time, but on launch day stores had plenty of stock and there were short lines, if any (and the iPad had a record weekend). Maybe it will be the same this year with the iPhone.

That orders slipped to 2 weeks in just over an hour may cause some analysts to reset expectations as it could signal some supply constraints. We'll find out when Apple issues its typical press release the Monday after launch date.

Folks, it's not like you're actually ordering something rare. This is a commodity product of which millions are being manufactured. There really is no need to act as if you are on a treasure hunt - the next million devices are already on the assembly line while you are getting a heart attack clicking on the check-out button...
 
wow - according to the apple web page all phones on all carriers are now 2 weeks shipping

That is quite shocking ... last year I ordered one late afternoon and still got it on launch day. Luckily I got up early this time to pre-order.

My order is still in "received" status. Waiting for it to be in "Processing" status to be able to do that. Order went through at 3:22 Eastern.. almost an hour.. waiting...

Yes it is now 20 months for the full subsidy.

I got one, but the email says my monthly fee is $190 for 2 phones. When I ordered it correctly said $150. In the email, there's some random $20 monthly charges for each phone for "Share Everything Unlimited Talk, Text & 4GB
Monthly Line Access" anyone else have this happen with Verizon?

There are several possibilities:

  • Demand way exceeded Apple's expectations (I want this as I am a shareholder).
  • Pre-order supplies were low so that they can ship plenty of stock to the stores (this happened with the new iPad earlier this year).
  • There are supply constraints given the rumored yield issues with Sharp and LG, along with Apple's aggressive rollout issue.

It is usually a 18-24 month period for an upgrade. If you're on a family plan, see if one of the other line is eligible and use that one.
 
Damn AT&T!!! I was in and just as I hit the button to go to the order screen their site crashed again!!!

Unfortunately not true. Struggled for an hour trying to checkout on 3 devices with different Internet connectivity and finally at 4:01am EST I got one through. 64GB Black said 9/21 however after order submit it says 2weeks.

No way I'm loosing my unlimited data. It's how I've done it for the 4 and the 4s. I am in LA and my brother is in Boulder. 2 different address, 1 charge, grandfather plans. You all are having so many issues ordering one phone, and I was in bed and off the phone at 12:15.

It's a lot better than "Shift R, Shift R, Shift R. 2 weeks! Damnit!"
