Just for clarification, you should NOT pick next day shipping, right? It will arrive won launch day with the free 2 day shipping?

Correct. Next day shipping = colossal waste of $ since all phones promised for launch day delivery will deliver that day and no sooner except by fluke. None-the-less tons will do it anyway then rant when their phone is delivered at 3pm on launch day while some guy in NYC who used free shipping got his at 9am. Happens every time.

(The iPhone 4 did arrive one day early but, again, for all, not just next day shippers).

Why would you want to go to an Apple Store on lunch day (it'll be insane) when you could just have it delivered right to your door?

I'll be out of town and am wondering if I could pickup my pre-order at the closest Apple Store.

I don't get what the fuss is about. iOS is very disappointing. So limiting and restrictive. Have you people seen Android Jelly Bean on the latst Samsung hardware. It puts iOS to shame and 5 years behind.

This iPhone is release has nothing new. The processor is slow compared to Samsung, the screen is small. Apple have lost their way.

I've had an iPhone for the past 4 years. This year is my last. In November my contract is up for renewal and I will be hopping to the future which is Android.

That's my 2 cents...

I get what you are saying... I just recently got an atrix after using iOS since before the appstores release and I have to say that I am impressed with how the Android OS runs on it (after being rooted.) It's very smooth and you can do a ton with it. However, you have less control of what happens to your info and it seems as if stuff is always running in the background, eating away at my battery.
On the other hand, the iOS ecosystem is fantastic for several reasons. There are restrictions, yet at the same time you don't have to worry about downloading a malicious app. In the end (it seems as if) a majority of iPhone users mainly use their phone for texting, calling, checking Facebook (twitter, instagram, etc...), and music anyway so they have no desire for customization. For the hardware side, I think Apple got it right with the 4 in screen. Anything bigger and you can't fit it in your pocket (exaggerating of course.) The LTE is very good, hopefully it doesn't drain battery in real world scenarios. The OS however is stale. They don't seem to be updating it like the need to. People will (are) start(ing to) getting tired of the same thing.
In conclusion, they have a great device. Compared to android it may be a step behind, but at the same time it is a thousand steps ahead.

And that is just what I think about the whole thing...

Unlocked?

I did not catch all the details. Is an unlocked version also going to be available right away? or do we have to wait?

wish it cud be available in my country but i have to wait like 2 months or more

but damn the black one looks just awesome and its my choice!

alot of people will go for the black!

Damn. That's 3AM EST, that just sucks. Going to have to set my alarm and try to go back to sleep afterwards. May be too excited! haha :D

Has anyone heard anything from AT&T regarding pre-orders? I have a business account so I'm forced to order from the AT&T Premier online store. I'm hoping for 12:01am Pacific Time.

No. He took the day off to pre-order an iPhone 5. ;)

You must come from the Android world.

Not at all, never have never been. Apple all the way baby (iPhone 5 will be my third iphone)

That said, I am just suprised people take a day off for something as trivial as pre-ordering a phone, especially since you can preorder it the very next morning - and you will find it, there is plenty to go around this time around.

I live in So Cal and have off tomorrow so I''ll be all over the preorder. Nice upgrade from my iP4. Now it's deciding all day white or black?

Read my earlier posts a page or two before this. Call your AT&T Business Account line now, they are taking Pre-Preorders right now and they will process them automatically in the morning!

Anybody know if Apple will require signature on delivery? I'll be at work on launch day and would rather have it delivered to the office to be certain someone will be there to sign for it, if necessary.

Has anyone been able to confirm/deny if unlocked ($650) phones will be available at launch time or not?

Google Maps hasn't evolved a bit in the past 10 years. Every time you scroll or zoom, you have to download a new array of JPEGs. How's that better than Apple's true vector graphics?

I'm running iOS6 GM right now on an ipod touch, and the Apple maps are sloooooooooooooooow. I'll definitely be using the google maps app unless something changes.

Hrm I have a business account (but i usually have ordered online anyway). I called 611 and they said just to wait for preorder time, and they never heard of any preorder at this point. Maybe you have a special special acct :)

Went to look at the Apple Store app, and where it had info about the iPhone 5 two hours ago, it's now coming up with an error!

Edit: false alarm! It's back.

They have a new system in place. The sales rep said their new order system will automatically place the order tomorrow when the AT&T clock allows the actual preorder. They ran into snags in the past with taking early orders, so they changed the system used to take the orders. I'm willing to see what happens, because I don't have the time to sit on the phone with AT&T all day tomorrow and I definitely wont have time to camp out this year at the retail store.

P.S. I went on apple.com and checked my upgrade eligibility and it states, "Account type not supported.
We're sorry. The AT&T account you have is a business account. Please contact your company's telecom manager or AT&T account manager to complete your iPhone purchase." If I were you I would check your upgrade availability on the Apple.com website, because you may not be able to order thru them anymore.

Well, looks like I'm not quite as lucky as you were. The at&t rep that I talked to told me that they had no way of processing a pre-pre-order. My confidence isn't high though, as the rep was also unaware that at&t offers a mid-level "early iphone upgrade" option between full commitment and full subsidy. That being said, I was able to get through the eligibility check screen on apple.com, so it looks like that's going to be my upgrade path either way. Good Luck!

Thanks for the tip. I actually went this route last year and it turned out to be an absolute disaster. Read my posts in the following thread:

However, I just went to chat with a rep on AT&T Premier and saw this message:

AT&T to Offer iPhone 5 on the Nation's Largest 4G Network on Sept. 21:

Customers will be able to pre-order iPhone 5 online beginning Friday, Sept. 14 at 12:01 AM (PST). iPhone 5 will be available for a suggested retail price of $199.99 for the 16GB model, $299.99 for the 32GB model, and $399.99 for the 64GB model. Only AT&T offers the nation’s largest 4G network, along with a variety of shared and individual data plans. For more information on iPhone 5, please visit www.att.com/iphone.

I'm hoping this applies to ATT.com and the Premier store.

FYI, the reason Apple dumped Google maps (other than the fact they are competitors) is that Apple was shelling out boatloads of money per year to Google for it.

Why pay someone something you can do just as well or better?

As you point out for those who want it, the Google Maps app will be there. But I have a feeling Apple's new maps will be killer (as they looked during the keynote).

Just like every year I will take the 21st off get to the apple store 3-4 hours before open and wait in line. I will be waking up early tonight to Pre-order for my girlfriend.
Last year I Pre-ordered and fed-ex got to my house after 4pm!
However I really enjoy waiting inline and talking to other tech-geeks such as myself. I love the whole spectacle of it all... When the employees come out and high five you... They pass out free items sometimes.... I love when they clap as you exit the store.... For me it's about the whole event of it all. Pre-ordering and getting it at my door at 4:30pm just isn't as exciting as being around other enthusiast
