Long evening

I went to pick up my reservation last night. I got to the store around 7:15 and things started well- the salesperson assisting me found my order and started clicking away on his iphone. Suddenly, he looked up and, in the most cheery way one can deliver this type of message, told me that they'd been having issues with their server (which one, I never quite figured out) and that he would not be able to complete my transaction for the time being. I went shopping for an hour (gf found a sweater that she likes), and then checked back in. It was 8:30 by then and so when I was told that they still hadn't resolved the problem I realized that I might not be getting my phone that night. I tried one more time before closing, but they still didn't have things working.

I'll call the store later today to see if the system is working yet and I hope to get my phone sometime in the next few days. Still, I think apple's been in the retail business for a few too many years now to still be having these sorts of problems as frequently as they seem to do based on posts I've seen similar to mine.

I don't understand why they totally rely on that system of servers and iphone/ipods in the store. I almost had the same situation, but it ended up just being a bit delayed in getting the phone out to me. Still, there shouldn't be any reason that if that fails, they can't manage it on their own.

Anyway. That being said, I picked mine up yesterday. After the initial delay, things went smoothly enough. I didn't have any problems with my AT&T account or my grandfathered unlimited plan, so I'm all good with that. So far, I'm loving the phone. Thanks again for the tips, guys!

Funny enough, as soon as I got my reservation completed, Radioshack called to tell me that they had a black, 32GB AT&T version (Raleigh, Capital Blvd, Mini City) so it may still be there if anyone's interested.

Definitely call about the pick-up. When I reserved, I read one day on the initial reservation page, but it wasn't on the email. Get a name of the person you speak to as well.

Just got my 64gb black AT&T from the Apple Store. They must have ramped up the QC as this phone is pristine in every way. Not a single blemish or scar on it.

It's a beautiful piece of hardware and I'm happy I got the black this time.

So I gave up on the 10:00 game yesterday and ordered from Verizon since they were still claiming to ship by Oct 26. My phone shipped already and will arrive Tuesday!!!

yup, happened to me. They claimed it was a Sprint issue. I waited 3 hours before I got my phone. I was 2.5 hours away from home too... So I would have been really angry if this had happened to me late in the day that day. It sucks that you can't have the phone that you paid for. They offered me a $50 giftcard, perhaps they'll do the same for you.

Hey, any idea on how I could get an iPhone 5 from somewhere?

To my understanding, Radioshack, Target... are selling these phones with contrat/upgrade only. I called multiple Radioshack and that's what they told me.

I don't want to be stuck in a contract, I've been before and I don't want to anymore. I'm looking for a simple AT&T iPhone 5, somewhere in San Francisco. What are my chances? Do the Apple Store stock some or is everything going for people reserving online?

I have a friend who has AT&T, but he's not eligible for upgrade though. So it is still full price nonetheless. Would it be possible to reserve an iPhone with his account (without upgrade, then) at the Apple Store? I thought this was about the best solution I could find.

Arrogance

I think this is a slap in the face to everyone who pre ordered, or ordered an iphone 5 online. They are basically saying it is o.k. if you wait weeks for this product. We are going to give one to someone who just walked in off the street. Unless you play our silly 10p.m. to 4a.m game and get lucky. There is no reason to have an apple store account whatsoever. Why not just match online orders with instore stock? Why all the crap? They are really getting cocky.

This is the way it's been for years...

I was at the Apple store in Woodfield Mall yesterday. The dude said they would hold my store pick-up for 30 days!?.

My ATT contract is not up until 11/12 so I don't want the new phone until then.

Any ideas what i should do?

Didn't you just answer your own question?

I scored a white ATT 16gb last night in fairfax VA and then another black ATT 16gb tonight!

The white is a week 40 - flawless unit.

Crossing my fingers the black is flawless too that I pick up tomorrow.

People are not kidding when they say you have to be fast.

both nights I found the stock updated right at 10:02pm EST

And sold out within a minute or two.

Have everything ready in your cart and go through the process as fast as you can.

Got a black 32gb at Buffalo - Walden Galleria tonight for pickup tomorrow. 10:03 it showed. Now the dance begins to return my 16gb to Target tomorrow, get my AT&T upgrade eligibility restored, and convince the Apple dudes that no, I don't really want that 2nd line so please attach it to my current line/plan, thanks.

The Verizon store down the street from me has a black 32 but I need two phones not just one so it doesn't do me much good...

Not based on what others have said. Earlier posts state they will only hold one day or seven days. Everyone has a different response.

FWIW I was told at local Apple store (Crabtree) today by an Apple manager that they hold reserved phones for 6 days.

FINALLY snagged (reserved) a white 32gb AT&T tonight using iPad Apple store app at 9:58 ET. Weird thing was I was finally given option to buy off-contract at $749 which is what I've been trying to do for weeks and had been told online and at store that I could only buy, not reserve, as walk-in.

Snagged a 32GB black AT&T phone tonight at 10:04 p.m through Apple.com. Only 1 store in the entire Houston area had it available for pickup as I kept refreshing.

Anybody know if you can reserve one of these & upon pick up, change your plan to an unsubsidized plan? Device only? How does anyone else who wants the phone w/o the 2yr commitment price get to reserve?

so, i answered my own question by reserving one online & trying to purchase w/o a contract. From what i was told, this currently, couldn't be done.
