Terrible mockups

Whoever Photoshoped these mockups, made them look terrible. It's quite possible Apple will increase screen size and decrease the bezel but in no way will they look as terrible as these do.

The "Nano" Rumors are Bu11$#iT

The frame might be reduced, but reduced functionality is stupid.

No Apps? Gimmie a Break !

I LOVE the old Mock-Up

I'll pay big bucks for that one.

............Hey Apple ,...are you hearing us?

We want this one !!!!! PLEASE !!!!

Personally I would rather have a larger screen than a smaller phone, especially if having a larger screen does not increase the size of the phone.

i like the last pic but the first 2 look like ass.. the screen ratio looks perfect as is on the iphone 4 now so they would have to make it taller to keep the ratio, which theres no room for unless they get rid of the home button and earpiece..

I don't see any way that they are going to make a bigger screen unless they change the aspect ratio to 16:9. If they kept the same width, the screen would be exactly 4" with the taller aspect ratio. 640*1138 is a weird resolution though. Maybe they could bump it to 720*1280? That would let existing apps run at 89% of their current size when mapped 1:1.

Personally I hate the screen to screen look and also the home button being rectangle looks ugly but thats just my .02 cents lol

Much like a large screen tv, a smart phone without a dark border rather than without a border has a better picture. The picture itself seems to pop better.

I'm still banking on iPhone 4GS this June rather than the iPhone 5.

(simply because I wan to have my contract finished before iPhone 5 and not be tied into anymore 18 month contracts)... ;)

I like the look of the phone in this concept video. Pretty mindblowing stuff if you haven't seen this already.

that video is awesome... except for the glass in the car. unless the dmv starts doing stupidity tests, i'll pass in getting ripped to shreds...

anyway, my opinion is that the refresh this summer will just be a few upgrades in the internals: faster processor, little more ram, a bump in battery. I really dont think after spending all that R+D on the new antenna design (no matter how many people had problems with it) that apple would release a redesign after one year, especially after they defended it so much. an edge to edge screen doesnt seem like it'll play well with it during manufacturing. plus all the people that just got the verizon version would get screwed, too.

that is of course, assuming that this rumor of iphone5 is for the summer...:D

Red-iPhone 4 (3.5" 3:2)
Blue-4" 16:9 screen
Green-4" 3:2 screen
Cyan- 4.5" 16:9, same PPI as iPhone 4 1280x720
Purple- If Apple were to go with a 4" 720p screen (blue)legacy iphone apps would be this size

nevermind i was confused

I think the green is most likely, can someone calculate the ppi of the same iphone 4 resolution an a 4inch screen

Yes, that's my take on a future notification system. Simple, easy to access from the lock screen, and not divulging too much information to prying eyes.

I just realized that the 4inch screen rumor I was so confident in, came from digitimes. I thought it was from engadget for some reason

This made me laugh.

Can I ask you why this made you laugh?

I think this is perfect other then the thickness(could be thinner). The space one the top an bottom is wasted if it isn't needed internally for for the motherboard or battery.
I would always like a bigger/higher res. screen however if apple changes the resolution they are going to have to have the app developers change the resolution of their apps otherwise all existing apps will be scaled and look funky or we will have the ipad effected with the old apps.

With a 4" screen and 3:2 ratio the iPhone would be 290ppi and could no longer be advertised as the highest resolution phone in the world.

That would be an improvement to me because everything would get bigger without pixelating (to my eyes at least), but it could hurt Apple's marketing efforts so I suspect they won't do it. I expect a larger screen size in 2012 along with a re-design that reduces the size of the top/bottom bezels and perhaps adds an extra millimetre or two to the overall dimensions. I really like the idea of the 4.5" 720x1280 display illustrated above, but worry about changing the screen ratio.

If the regular iPhone was a tiny bit bigger it would be another reason to make an iPhone mini. Apple has shown by using a lower quality display in the iPod touch that they don't need to use the same LCD panel in multiple models to get great volume pricing. Changing the aspect ratio would cause problems for the iPhone mini because 360x640 isn't going to look very impressive in 2012 and cramming 720x1280 into a screen in the 3 - 3.5 inch range won't be practical. Putting the current 640x960 screen into the iPhone mini could be an option, but would require developers to not only code for two different screen sizes, but two different ratios. An app that looks perfect at 3:2 would look stretched on 720p. Likewise an app designed for 720p would end up looking crushed at 3:2.

I know Android apps cope with different sizes and ratios, but they can't match the pixel perfect look of an iOS app. Apple will not want to lose that advantage.

I like the screen edge to edge. I think it looks nice, and it's practical.

Agree. Only question is mechanical integrity and screen protection. However, I'm sure there will be a butt-load of case makers lining up to take care of that.

My take is this iPhone 5 is part of a HUGE mole hunting program inside Apple to dig out the snitches. Good Hunting!

There's a 4" screen on an iPhone of the same physical size as the iPhone 4.
The Nano is 60% of full-sized with a 3" screen.

Only the last one looks any good, and we know they wont get it that thin without smaller batteries.

The others look like pure crap.

The iPhone 4 screen doesn't look much different, but I guess 3.5" to 4" is quite small. The 'nano' looks great, I'd be interested in something like that. Fingers crossed!

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/533.17.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8C148)

Edge to edge would cause no end of multi touch problems when you try to hold the thing. More likely to be like the bottom one, which is kinda cool.
