yes there was some issues, but haven't you heard the Iphone 4 you describe above is the same phone that has sold a record 20 million units last quarter (which was meant to the slowest quarter) because many thought they would annouce new iphones in june/July.3GS outsold the Nexus One, and has been out selling alot of the Android crap
may be the iPhone5 will be available sooner...like Oct 5th if AT&T already have the case in store?? Do they have the iPhone 4 cases in store when the 4 launch?

To be fair, Apple could have just said that so they wouldn't give away any info for a redesign but could still introduce the feature.

It could always be a multi-purpose button like on the iPad. And it is possible to change the button command pattern at runtime. So if a camera app is loaded it turns into a camera button.

Meh. Probably a plant by Apple to fake out all the rumor sites.
Why would Apple want to get the hopes of a redesign in the minds of millions of fans, and release the current form factor with a spec bump.

The grim reality could be that they were waiting for iCloud, iTunes Match and iOS 5 to be ready. iCloud is a HUGE release for Apple so I could see that being the reason. I just hope it's not true.

Jesus! I was just thinking the same thing. So ridiculous.
This whole thing is completely insane this year. I was 99% convinced we were only getting a 4S yesterday, now I'm 60/40 on both a 4S and a 5.

There were already rumors back in July that Foxconn was having a hard time manufacturing the new iPhones due to it's extreme thinness. That and the other video posted showing the hundreds of thousands of "iPhone 5" cases being produced means all of these stories add up to a redesigned iPhone. People here are forgetting about Apples ability to impress like they did with the original iPhone and every release there after(minus the 3GS). Apple are the masters of suspense, hype buildup, and keeping things a secret. October 4th cannot come soon enough!
Here are my thoughts.
We have an idea based on current rumors that a possible 4S will include Apple's A5 chip and the same form factor as the iPhone 4. If Apple does release a new phone with an updated form factor it will also have the A5 chip. I don't see a business reason for releasing 2 different form factors with the same specs in the same territory. This would cause some fragmentation, that I don't believe is in Apple's best interest.
Apple to this day is still seeing decent sales on the 8GB 3GS. The $99 price point is very attractive to a lot of people, therefore it makes sense to continue sales of a device at this price. I honestly do not see Apple selling any device containing the A5 chip at $99, so the most probably solution is to continue sales of the current iPhone (maybe with reduced storage) at $99.
As for the A5 devices, I am gonna go out on a whim and say that the 4S and 5 will both be released but in different territories. We know that Apple has come to an agreement to finally release the iPhone in China, it could be that the 4S will be released in Asia with the 5 releasing in the US and other locations.
Note: I remember reading rumors that suggested the possibility of the 4S for China deployment only, but I cannot remember where so, partial credit for this post goes to that article\analyst\poster. Additionally, I am only looking at this from a business aspect. Unfortunately, my contract is not up so I will not be picking up the new phone.

Why can't this "iPhone 5" case simply be the case for what everyone is calling the "iPhone 4S?"
Maybe instead of calling it the "4S" Apple is simply calling it the "iPhone 5" with it still being just a hopped up 4?

Where is your proof? I do not believe Apple would alienate the installed base of iPhone 4s. And so far there have been no reports of iOS 5 features no working on current iPhone 4. Now I do see many features of iOS 5 not available in the 3GS.
Evidence enough for me! No way AT&T would actually ship iPhone 5 cases to stores by chance!

lol if you think thats going to drop the stock price significantly enough to sell then you must either be lying and not own any stock, or you dont have any business investing in the stock market.
The news of Steve Jobs stepping down barely moved the price and it quickly corrected back on track... You really think this will do anything?

It's all about iOS. From what I have read, the new voice controls can not be used on the current iphone 4 and 3GS. Therefore, a 4S and 5 iphone is necessary.
Yes, the 3GS sells but once the new phones come out it will be old technology. The current iphone 4 will replace it and will be $99.
I think the iphone 5 will be a superior phone at a price point of $300 to target higher end users. The 4S will be the standard $200.
Wait, wait, wait a minute. So now your telling me this is real because, based on one suspicious design way back when, and it's in the stores, it has to be true? Ok, why hasn't Apple put the strangle hold on AT&T or CaseMate? Why haven't any of the sites been threatened with legal action for posting images? Do we all of a sudden think that they have changed their ways or don't have enough money to anything about it? Maybe it's time to post a summary of facts without interpretation and a separate summary of rumors.

even the idiotic pictures of part of a product that were supposedly taken by some ninja. why didnt they take a picture of the entire thing but concentrated only on the circuit board or some part where you can't see the whole thing?
