Samsung Galaxy S (4-inch screen) vs iPhone 4 (3.5-inch screen) via Emoiz
Rumors are flowing fast for the next generation iPhones. Digitimes is now claiming that the next generation iPhone will use a 4-inch screen to better compete with Google Android.
The component suppliers noted that the production lines for Apple's next generation iPhone have begun testing, and Apple is interesting in expanding the screen size to 4-inches to support the tablet PC market as the vendor only has a 9.7-inch iPad in the market.
The news is interesting given the recent rumors of a smaller iPhone as well. The iPhone has always used a 3.5-inch screen since its launch, while several Android phones have launched at larger screen sizes.

Digitimes has a bit of an on-again off-again reliability with Apple-related rumors. They have certainly made some legitimate predictions, but has also detailed 7-inch iPad and 22-inch touch-screen iMac. It's believed that Apple prototypes several different designs for testing purposes but may also be the source of the some the false rumors we've seen in the past.

A slightly larger screen on the iPhone than what it currently has would be nice. It'd make it a little easier to use.

If this is true it would have to have the same resolution, anyone who isn't lazy like me to figure out what that what put the ppi at?

If any of these rampant rumors are true, I would think iOS would have to develop some sort of resolution independence to work across so many different screen sizes. Perhaps that will be a lion feature shared with iOS 5.

I guess we have five more years of iOS and OS x. Then they will merge into one OS. I can see it now, "This year, your computer goes to eleven."

Next iPhone 5:

It will have a 4 inch screen, however, it will magically feel smaller in your hand. It will also feel lighter because there would be no on board memory even with the slide out keyboard.

Can't wait!

Let's just put out every possible rumor about the next iPhone. One of them has to come true! ...

can't all iphone 5s have the same resolution?! at different sizes?

Full-screen front, no home button, mini front camera/earpiece

Isn't it becoming more obvious. The new phone won't have a Home button and the area for the front camera and earpiece will be much shorter. That way the phone can be smaller and the screen can be bigger. Allowing for "swipe to Home" capabilities or multiple-touch to app switch.

The new slightly smaller phone may be the new iPhone.

Im all for it, and I love big screens on phones (droid x 4.3" screen :D) but this shows that steve jobs is kind of a douche. Anyone remember him saying "who would want those giant android phones anyway?"..

Wouldn't a larger screen require a more powerful processor to achieve the "Retina Display"? I guess that's where the rumored dual core processor comes in. One thing is for sure - the rumor mill is in full swing.

I really hope your right! it will be perfect

I'm going to start my own rumor. The iPhone 5 will do dishes, take out the trash, and change the oil in my car on a regular basis.

Take it away, Macrumors!

Actually if you combine this with the edge to edge rumor it may not be significantly larger than the current generation and still much smaller than some of the Droids.

Then again as with everything posted here: We'll see it when we see it. :)
