Anybody hear anything about the next iPhone having a slot to insert a slice of bread and having it make toast? Those familiar with the matter are starting to leak this information to me. Supposedly it will make toast, but you will need to provide your own butter or jam. However, if you sign up for MobileMe, Apple will provide a service to automatically charge your iTunes account for butter or jam and have it shipped to your current location.

What's next? Mac Rumors, please stop bothering with any more iPhone rumors until you have photos of actual parts being used to build the thing. This is really getting ridiculous with the flood of misinformation coming from Apple.

I know! I can't believe this website has resorted to posting unconfirmed speculations about Apple products! What is this, some kind of rumor site? If all we're going to hear about are just unconfirmed rumors, they might as well put "rumors" in the name of the website, so people aren't surprised that all we see here are rumors nowadays! What's the world coming to!?

Really? Why do sheeple have to rely on the likes of SJ to decide for them what they want? I want a 4" screen. For me the current screen is too small. I'LL decide if its right for me. Not SJ.

Then go buy a phone with a 4" screen, because as of right now Apple doesn't make one. You have a choice.

Can't be bothered to read through all the posts thus far to see if this issue has been raised, but here is why I think this makes no sense...

The aspect ratio.

A 4" screen will require that the phone be wider than it is now. There is no way, even if they get the pixels literally to the edge of the current phone, to prevent the phone from being wider without changing the aspect ratio of the screen (not happening) or use differently shaped pixels which, while technically possible, would lead to visual geometry issues (e.g. app icons would no longer be square) and feels inelegant and therefore distinctly un-Apple.

I think if they somehow push the pixels to the edge of the phone - no side bezel whatsoever - they can obviously grow the screen a touch, but not .5" total. I think maybe to 3.75 or 3.8" max.

As long as Apple doesn't make the physical body of the iPhone bigger, then I am all for it. Phone's like the EVO are way too big IMO.

It's all about maximizing market share. Why does apple sell 13", 15" and 17" MacBook Pros??

People want choice. And the cell phone market is the same. Obviously the 4" screens have had A LOT of success. Look at how good Android phones are doing. I think the EVO has a 4.3" screen and it did really well.

Now you take a nice large screen and add :apple: on it. It will sell VERY well. This way Apple can get both the 3.5" and 4"+ crowd to buy iPhones. Especially if they can squeeze the 4" screen without changing the actual size of the phone by much.

I think this will be a welcomed addition. Let's see how it goes this summer...

These iPhones-of-various-sizes rumors are getting out of hand. Apple's clearly seeding their channels with false prototypes and spec rumors to thwart competition and/or track down leaks.

I would like to see a 4 inch screen

the Sprint Evo and Droid X sell weel because of the larger screen, time for Apple to step it up

On the Nano thread I posted that they should make a 4.3 phone (rather than a smaller phone), like some of the Android phones.

The 3.5 is still nice, IMHO. The iphone is still fairly small and has always been thin, but more screen real estate would be nice.

best idea/rumor so far. shrink the bezel and make the screen 4 inches.
These needs to happen as 3.5 is now on the "small end"

During steve's keynote back in 2007 when he historically showed the useless and wasted plastic buttons on a phone and replaced them with a screen. We need something similar with the top and bottom bezel. Please remove and add more viewing space.

iPhone 4 is my first iPhone. My previous smartphones were the PALM Treo 700 (Awesome phone) and the BlackBerry Storm (Crap phone).

Even though my first Blackberry was a terrible phone hardware wise, RIM did do a few things right.

1. BBM
2. Notifications
3. Profiles (why can't i switch all notifications except calls off on the iphone? My phone keeps buzzing all night and if I turn it to silent, I would miss an important call!)

Everything else Apple does better LOL

Apple needs to bring those things into iOS. Oh yeah and a bigger screen ;)

If the phone is physically any bigger than it is now, I'll be using my iPhone 4 till it breaks. I have small hands, like most girls do. I can't type a Q one-handed as it is... I couldn't use a 4in phone.

You can't handle 4 inches?!?!?!?

:D Sorry had to do it hehe

How do Android phones have screens that go from 3.2 up to 4.3? Are the apps all written differently? So a developer builds the same app for 5 or 6 different screen sizes?

If there are 30 phones accessing the same application store does the app store recognize that hey you are on a 4.3 size screen i'll download the application built for that phone size. Or do the apps just not look right?

sorry not technical at all and i know a lot of posters here are.

i would love to see an apple version of bbm :D

LTE is barely faster than AT&T's 3G in a good area. I typically get 3-5 megs everywhere in metro Atlanta and have seen 7 megs down.

You obviously haven't used LTE.

3-5Mb/s < 5-12Mb/s.

And this also doesn't compare latency (i.e. 200-400ms vs.50ms).

But Apple won't be rolling a LTE device this year. It will be next year.
