Going from an M5 to an S4, kinda like me lol.

Audi said they'd be pushing out an update to enable A2DP streaming back in 2010/2011, but they seem to have forgotten all about it since they launched the 2013s (the B8.5s) with the feature. They now say they never said anything about enabling it in older models. Kinda annoying.

Yes... I thought I remembered that. It ticks me off that it doesn't exist. I wish there was a way to 'enable it' like I have other features with VAG-com cable and software.

BTW, we may know each other from other forums as I've been through my fill of cars (mostly German). I am a Mod on 6speedonline.com, Teamspeed.com, FunCarsOnline.com and some others. I've had my share of 911's, MB's, and others. All great, but today I'm keeping it simple with the S4 and a little Lotus Elise on the way for the track.

I really enjoy the S4. It's one of the most all-around enjoyable cars I've owned.

What does your integration with your S4 do now then? My S5 still has the Bluetooth headset profile and contact sync, but I can't play music until the lightning to 30pin adapter is released.

Forgive my total lack of reading comprehension, I was thinking Bluetooth pairing only. I don't have the 30 pin to lightning adapter yet so obviously no use with the MMI. I have a older Nano hooked up to that at the moment anyway..

Yeah, this seems like this is one of the things that could be vagcom'd, but I guess not. Still happy with my video-in-motion and laptimer :)

You probably don't know me from other forums, might've seen some of your posts though- I lurk 6speed and teamspeed (lots of Porsche information on those boards) quite a bit but haven't gotten round to registering yet. Probably will when I take delivery and start to have questions of my own.

I wish I could justify a track car. With the Panny still on order and cancel-able at this time, I've been toying with the idea of just picking up a GT-R (it's still practical enough to be my DD). As an ex-911 owner you know how crazy Porsche's options are, and with the way my build is, getting a second car isn't all that much more than trading in the S4.

The GT-R is about as far as you can get from the Elise though- heavy and complex compared to light and simple, but based on what I've read, it's still heaps of fun.

I've never been an Audi fan but I'm still surprised at how much car the S4 is for the money- it's certainly more exciting than the 335 I tested for around which stickered just a few k less than my loaded S4. That little throttle blip when it downshifts during braking in Dynamic mode is killer :D

Curious, are you using it through the iPhone cable -> 30 pin-to-Lightning adapter in the S4? I haven't received the adapters I ordered yet but I'm hoping this setup works...?

No, I use BT to connect my phone to either car. I have a iPod classic I keep in the glove box for music. Basically I just use my phone for handsfree calling and a phone directory when I'm in the car.

Bluetooth Speakerphone Echo

Everything working just fine on my MDX.

Mallom,

Does your other party get an "echo" when you are talking to them on the speakerphone?

I'm getting a bit of feedback, almost like the noise cancelling is not quite working correctly on the new iPhone 5.

Ah, gotcha. Well yes, that works perfectly. Same as before, but I expected the Bluetooth to work.

I'm hoping to have the adapter work for playing music and podcasts. For the moment I've fallen back to music I have loaded on an SD card in the dash.

I've never driven a GT-R, but I hear they're great, and if you picked up a slightly used one, you can save a bundle... it's a ton of car for the money.

I've never been a big Audi fan, but I guess I am now. I just wish I had BT Audio! :D (getting back on the subject) ;)

Works great on my CLS63 AMG, will try again on tomorrow on a Phantom coupe and if I get around I'll test it out on 458 Ferrari Spider IF I get around to it :D

Not sure. I think they hear just fine.

That's where I am too. I'm current rigging a hacked mmi cable to an A2DP adapter for streaming audio (gotta go pick up the resistor and shrink wrap tonight). I've heard it won't be the best audio quality, but I'll just be playing compressed music files in a road-noisy environment so no biggie. Way more cost effective than retrofitting a MMI 3G+.

If it works, maybe you'd care to share the details sometime? I might be interested in trying that if it isn't too complex.

On topic to the original post...

So this is lighting to USB cable to the BMW USB Port? I thought it used to be 30 in to Y cable, with 1 going to the USB, one going to the Aux in? So now you have control through lighting to USB, and then audio through BT only? I have 09 iDrive. It's CIC but doesn't have the whole Combox treatment... and doesnt' have Bluetooth Audio...

iDevice integration with 3G MMI is a bit crap tbh. The only thing you get is basic iPod connectivity and Bluetooth phone connection. No album art, no apps, no A2DP, nothing.

2013s with the Google infused MMI is supposed to be a lot better, but I vastly prefer the look of my 12 S4 over the weird looking headlights of the 13 :p

This guys got an S4 and a M5...(Balling)

Not in Canada, my nearest Nissan dealer is selling a 2011 for 95k. A lot of car for the money no doubt but with depreciation being as low as it is, getting a new one is arguably the better choice. Good for the seller, bad for me.

Though I hear the Nissan multimedia system has Bluetooth audio streaming :p

Hardly, just a matter of priorities. I just don't live in a multimillion dollar mansion, go to art auctions or buy hundred thousand dollar suits.

The iPhone 5 seems to function better than my 4s in several areas.
Obviously the docking tray no longer works, but the new Lightning to USB cables functions perfectly. Pandora, Music all work as before.

Bluetooth seems to function better, specifically the Office functions finally are working, both text and email. They are both still contained in the Text section, but they now load instantly which they never did on the 4s (w/ iOS 6).

It will only display the first few lines while driving, but the voice will read the entire email or text. The main improvement is speed, they load as soon as they appear on the iPhone.

Siri also works via bluetooth audio.

Overall the transition to the Lightning cable hasnt seem to have affected newer vehicles, at least the BMW models with latest Combox.

Is the lightning to USB cable the only connection you are using betwen the iPhone 5 and BMW? And getting audio out of that and access to the music through the on-board display? I tried that cable alone with my 2008 X5 and the car didn't recognize the iPhone 5.

Yes, it works both via Lightning Cable or via Bluetooth streaming audio.
I have a 2013 model, which has the new CIC and Combox, I think models prior to 2011 used different hardware that required a Y cable which is not comparable w/ ip5.

You should look into updating your cars hardware to the new Combox hardware, there are 3rd parties that offer this.

Kinda important to note which model, some (like the Virage or Rapide) use a newer Garmin based navigation system with a better iPod interface than the other models with the crappy Volvo system.

I think most people on here are using the factory-fitted Bluetooth interface with audio streaming.

Hi. Vantage model year 2012. Siri works as well by holding the call button on the steering wheel.
