agreed...

My guess is Apple wants the 5S to look more high end, and IMO the black and silver 5's look way classier than some of the after market color options I've seen. If they get the coloring right on the champagne phone (e.g. not some horrible yellow gold or bronze) I would put it in the same category as black and silver.

Bingo!

I liked that iPhone 5C "Fridge Blue".

To have nostalgia-appeal for my generation, the phone will need to come in "Avocado", "Burnt Orange", and "Harvest Gold".

I think I would use the iphone 5C without a case but I am not sure I would use the 5S without a case. Having a selection of colors on the 5S does not impress me as much as the 5C.

Like always... I reserve my opinion on the colors when I see them. Although I'm not a fan of the colors I've seen, it's very possible that these colors will be a huge hit with the market they're intended for and I'm sure it's not corporate america. :)

Is that really something you/they do?

Not me. I'm the guy ready to upgrade from his iPhone 4 that's been in a plastic protective case since day one. Personally, I too would like to see a 5S with a plastic body. Sounds like they're using some form of thermoset.

Will we one day look back and ask: why did they make phones covered wtih glass?

You think Apple would have used it on the iPhone 4. Go figure. That big cool room just going to waste for an entire year and Apple giving out rubber bands to fix the design flaw.

I don't believe you believe the stuff you say.

"We made that mistake proudly and we don't care! Mothball that room because we're arrogant!"

Or is that not what you meant?

So, from what I understand the 5C is simply an iPhone 5 in a new shell and the metal iPhone 5 will be discontinued.

The cynic in me tells me there isn't going to be a significant difference between the 5 and the 5S, therefore it makes sense to have a "cheaper looking" iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5S still in it's metal/glass case, the 5S then becomes a far more attractive option. However, to a casual phone buyer they simply want an iPhone and case quality isn't such an issue.

It makes perfect business sense in the real world, but Apple always stood out from the crowd by sticking to it's guns and not compromising on quality. That's not to say the 5C has poor build quality, I don't know that for sure and I'll reserve judgement til I've held one.

I'm glad they are going back to colors everywhere. I'd rather have a 5C than my current 5 if the specs are equivalent. I don't care about a fingerprint scanner or a better camera on the 5S. My first 5's battery failed and that one and the replacement have had some weird glitches, hopefully the new iOS and/or phones fix the glitches. Plus I always thought the 5 is a touch too thin & light.
Colorful iOS 7 and rainbow phones will make the world smile more! :)

Wow!! You would pay to downgrade your iphone 5 just because of the color and plastic materials? There are some nice premium cases you can buy today if you want a different feel/color with heavier weight.
You really blew my mind. You must have cash to throw down the toilet or you have a plastic/color fetish. You better sale your iPhone 5 today because the 5C is going to kill your resale value.

Apple would do well to make the 5S come in some of those 5C colors, rather than just black and white (and champagne).

I don't understand the marketing behind offering the 5C in red, blue, etc. and not the 5S. Do you WANT people to forgo your more expensive device even though they can afford it because they just really want a blue iPhone? Because I can see that happening. Maybe not often, but it'll happen.

How do you know that the 5C will have a horrible profit margin as compared to the 5S? Cheaper materials, maybe easier to manufacture, maybe the 5C will be MORE profitable for Apple.

Yea, at work when my buddy drops by to show me all the things he can do on his Galaxy that I can't on my 5, I say yea but that blue plastic is so cheap and ugly.

Just a common work conversation among two young tech enthuisiasts. Not the geek to geek convo your question made it out to be big guy...;) (not that it matters)

Great. So now when I make fun of my Android using friend's cheap plastic casing (all I have left in my arsenal) they can just point to Apple's new Easter color plastic phones and laugh:(

Small screen + dated/limited UI = I may finally be going Android this fall. Sad Apple.

Apple = one step forward and 2 steps back. Time to get use to it.

looks more like a protection film on the alu parts of the 5S to me. why would the apple logo be covered up in blue tint like that.

and i am digging the red 5C. i want it just to have something different :D

I have an S4. He's got nothing on you except for screen size.

I'm actually more interested in the 5C than the 5S.
Absolutely! It's as if the 5S will have a fingerprint reader, a dual flash, a gold color and that is pretty much it. The 5C is a whole new category with many unknowns. As for colors, I wish Apple would just use the iPod touch style. I love those colors. I think an iPod touch can often be nicer than an iPhone, and then I'm not just talking about how thin they are.

Well... there is a black slate iPhone directly behind it.... looking at the two side by side it's pretty apparent they are different colors.

Oh in that top pic? I would not put any money on that being genuine. That looks way off.

Do you really think people who opt for the 5S will only care about the color? Other factors, such as build quality, materials and oh yeah, faster processor, better camera, dual flash and fingerprint sensor (if rumors hold true), will probably be much larger considerations. And if they want a blue phone, there's no shortage of cases available for the iPhone.

Funny thing is, a lot of people who buy the 5c will likely cover it up with a case anyway so the color they choose will be a moot point.
