Whenever a new iphone comes out there are always problems. The stupid iphone 4s had a screwed up 3g chip which resulted in buzzing noises during video recording and voice calls. Apple never acknowledged this and it was present on all iphone 4s's, they just fixed it in the iphone 5. Apple will not acknowledge this issue. If it can be fixed in a software update, it will be done in the background.

Went through self help online, said it was a service request. Entered my email for diagnostics, it sent me an email I opened on my phone, did the extended diags. The website then springs into life and gives me options. I selected a call. Entered my number and a nice Irish chap called me. Said they were sorry, options were 1)apple store but stock is unknown. 2) standard replacement where I send it back and they send me a new one or 3)express repair. They put a hold on my card for £630, send me a new phone and I swap it with UPS.

Thanks for the info, I went a different route, will try yours.

And it was the reason why I returned my 4S and stuck with the 4 until the 5.

My compass is off by about 12 degrees after performing a calibration. The compass also seems to easily get interference. It is quite often off by random amounts. In one instance it was off by 180 degrees.

The level is off by 4 degrees when the 5S is placed on a known level surface. An iPhone 4S placed on the same surface read zero degrees.

Yep my compass is shooting all over the place and my IPhone 5 next to it is rock steady. When it settles down it is showing about 12 degrees difference.
Just spoken to AppleCare UK and they have no records of any issues.
I am on hold whilst they look in to it

I agree they will never admit a problem. But I do think they will come up with a fix because this will affect their bottom line. If people stop buying games because of this issue, Apple will quickly move to fix. Apple makes more money selling apps and in apps sales, then they will ever make just off the phone. Losing money is the fastest way to get a company to fix a problem.

Ok so just come off the phone having spoken to a charming lady in tech support.
She said that they do know about this issue as they have received quite a few calls and that Apple are looking at the problem and hope to fix the issue via a software update in the future.
She advised me to keep my genius appointment and show them the problem and through the 14 working day policy, ask for a refund or exchange if I am not entirely happy

So let me get this straight...you don't have a loose power button currently? You'd be the first 5S I've heard of that doesn't have that...if so what is your factory and week of production and color and size too please?

I don't have a loose power button either  No rattle at all.

16GB grey, week 35, launch day phone.

I just tried playing Lane Splitter which is free on App Store (I think)

lay the phone flat on its back and the bike rapidly drifts right, having just tried it on a old iPhone 4 I have which is freshly restored to iOS 7 it still drifts right but it seems less quickly so.

flat on its back reads -1 also.

New member, adding my experience with the apple store:

My 5s is showing -3 to -4. I went to my local apple store, and the guy claimed to have never heard of this issue. He checked with someone in the back, who also claimed to have never heard of this issue. And even though they had never heard of this, they kept saying apple would fix it in a software update. I didn't ask for a replacement phone simply because odds are the replacement would also be faulty.

Also, i tested a 5c in the store and it read -3. I tested a silver 5s and it read -1. I tested a gold 5s and it read -5.

Two iPhone 5s' here, one black and one white. Both read -3.

Called Apple Support Germany today. They also told me they never heard of the issue and he told me to do the 90 minutes on the desk - thing. I hadn't read this thread before so I actually tried it. Guess what: Didn't fix it.

I think I'll try with a swapped phone and if it has the same problem I'll wait till they fix this problem. Reminds me of the hairline cracks on iPhone 3GS. Had my 3GS swapped out 4 times and then got a free iPhone 4 as a replacement.

What's the 90 minute thing? Cause when I'm charging my phone it's laying flat on it's back for at least 8 hours LOL.

I too am losing confidence and while this issue in no way affects me, I don't use panaroma, play games or use the level, however it would be nice to know that if I wanted to I could.

You are supposed to enable 'Do not disturb' and put it on the charger for 90 minutes and not touch the device. It's supposed to recalibrate the sensors but the procedure has had no positive effect in resolving our issues...

These issues are being reported worldwide. It's all over the internet.
Apple will have to respond once they have completed their investigations before it is broadcasted mainstream.

I don't know why reps keeping telling everyone to do the stupid 90 minute recalibration. First they say they never heard of it, then they tell you to do that. Now how would they know to tell you to do that recalibration, if they never heard about the problem before? Obviously, somebody much higher up is telling all the reps to say that. Even though that in itself is annoying, the fact that someone in a much higher level was probably told that by the tech department makes me wonder just how incompetent their tech side has become to give such stupid advice.

They are messing with the fanboys and having a good laugh at our expense :D

^Because it buys them 90 mins until their shift ends :D

And that much closer to us going past the return (not exchange for refurb once they've sold 50 million 5S's) period. It also allows them to put the blame on US, saying we need to try harder to calibrate their mess. Apple has a lot riding on this phone, and their best interest are going to be their only priority. They stock fell after they announced these latest phones, and has struggled to hold its ground. It's a business in the end, whether we love them or not.....

Same issue

Same issue here in Canada. Online chat with a represented that never heard of this issue and was told this:

Vanessa:
The steps I have found for this is to: charge the iPhone for at least 90 minutes undisturbed with the display off and Do not Disturb set on.

Tested on a Table top,

I tested iphone 5 32GB (Black) running real racing 3 (Game intro tutorial):
Car drove perfectly straight

I tested iphone 5S 32GB (Silver) running real racing 3 (Game intro tutorial):
Car turned left into the wall

For the sake of it, I am still going to try the 90 minute thing.

Could be fixed by software by adjusting the error to zero, however this would be a hardware issue if that's the case. Unless an algorithm is off in the code for gyroscope etc. Could just be an app issue on a 64 bit chip. But I don't know.

Have you tested the parallax effect?
