I found iTunes saying " congratulations you phone is now unlocked" after doing a dfu restore on the unlocked 5s I bought from an apple store. did u get that message?
I don't remember seeing that on any of my previous unlocked iPhones. this is the same phone that apple care insisted I didn't buy from apple store.

You get that message after every activation or restore.

I have to wait a whole week for a replacement bc of Genius Bar reservation all booked till then.
But my gfs iPhone 5s has zero issues. Keep testing new hardware till u get a non issue one

No have apple care for a year but just can't go in and replace unless there is available time slot for Genius Bar. Which is Friday for me

Only if the phone is actually unlocked.

There's really no point in rushing to get to the Apple Store to get a replacement when it's highly likely the replacement will have the same problem. The phone is warranted for a year. Best to wait a few weeks for Apple to fix whatever the problem is.

This reminds me of when I bought my iPad 2. It had the screen bleeding problem that was common at the release. I went to replace it and there was two in stock and both had the same problem. I ended up keeping the original. About a month later the headphone jack died and I got a replacement and the screen was perfect on that one.

Most likely software issue

I spoke to an Apple Tech Supervisor last night and with him providing his direct phone number, I called him back today after doing some testing. He told me that Apple is indeed aware of this issue and has made it a high priority and they’re almost certain that it’s a software issue with the M7. Should see a fix soon and most likely in version 7.0.3 he said. He said the issue is wide spread and mostly all iphone 5s are affected. By tapping on the level and setting it to 0 does not recalibrate it but only offsets it by the amount it’s off. If then you flip your phone over 180 degrees, the difference will now be 2x the amount of the offset. If you download the app iHandy Level and place it on a surface and calibrate it to 0 degrees and then flip it 180 degrees, it should still indicate 0 or perfectly level. The Apple supervisor informed me that the sensor is not defective and that it proves that it’s a software issue with the calibration. I hope this helps.

I sure hope he's right as we've heard different stories from all of them. 7.0.3 was released to carriers and apple employees for testing over a week ago so I'm not confident it would make it in 7.0.3. Guess we will find out next week.

Has anyone tried this yet?
How about the compass?

Apple can do anything to FW 7.0.3 before it becomes final, just look at version 7.0.2.

If I set to 0 and flip over it changes to 4. That makes "sense" and when my phone is on it's right side it reports 0 or 1. On it's left side it reports 4 or 5. On it's back it "leans" to the left (bottom or top), no matter what direction it's facing.

Basically it seems to be a problem with the gyroscope if the M7 is being read incorrectly, it seems to only read certain directions incorrectly.

I hope it can be fixed in software, but since every phone seems to be reporting different wrong values, I don't see how that's possible.

When I first came across this article on Twitter, I tested out Need For Speed on my 5s & in landscape, my car in the game favored the right side when my phone was layed on a flat surface. I thought this was weird being that the guy in the YouTube video & many others 5s' were favoring the left side.
So I finally got around to comparing my 5s to my wife's 4s. When layed on a flat level countertop (brand new kitchen cabinets & countertop), my wife's 4s reads dead nuts level, while my 5s read -4° to what side ? The same favored side in Need for Speed (the top right corner of the phone).
It doesn't bother that much, BUT I do occasionally play games on my device & I would rather have a phone in good working order. I might return to Apple for a replacement.

Had anyone got a good replacement ? I'm currently still reading through this thread. There's a lot of pages lol

All or none

Please cut and paste all of the information.

I just tried with my 5S. I calibrated it to 0 degrees and then flipped the phone 180 degrees. Now it shows -1.8. Without calibration it shows -3.8.

But it works when the 5s is lying on the table.

Edit: After trying a few times it really seems to work. It shows 0.2 when I flip it, that would be OK. So there's hope for a software fix.

I am not convinced that a blanket software update will fix all phones, some phones are off by 1 degree some are off by 7, some are unaffected and some reporting drift.

This is the first peice of positive news we've heard from Apple (although it wasn't something official).

Let's hope there's a way to sort this out otherwise the genius bar's will he very busy issuing millions of replacements until our hearts are content!

Well, I'm no expert when it comes to this stuff but I'm willing to give Apple a chance to coreect this. Just because some are off by 1 degree and some others are off by 7 doesn't mean it can't be corrected by software. I told the supervisor that I'll give it two software updates before I start getting replacement. Just because a small amount of people are reporting that they have not issues doesn't mean there isn't. They may not be testing it correctly or the surface isn't even to start with. I read a lot of posts from many people indicating that they visited several Apple stores and all the display models had the same issue.

Remenber the proximity sensor issue with iphone 3g, some had and some didn't. If I recall, it was corrected by a software update.

I think this will be corrected by software. I guess we'll have to wait and see, soon I hope.

IOS 7.0.3 Release

Looks like IOS 7.0.3 will be released next weeks and it seems too soon for a fix for this issue. It all depends how long Apple's been aware of this issue and if it can indeed be fixed by software. According to another site, the build number of iOS 7.0.3 will be 11B491. I think it's in Apple's best interest to get this issue fixed very soon.

I hope this can be corrected by a software update. I'm holding out on buying a 5S until it's fixed.

What's your error reading

I called AppleCare and they replaced it. The problem is less apparent but still there.

What's your error reading? I was going to get mine replace but decided to hold off since Apple informed me that it's a wide issue affecting all iphone 5s. Besides, I may get a replacement with some other issue and then the fun really starts.

Cheers!!

My 5S level is off 4 degrees on a verified level surface. The compass is not just off, but jumps around a lot too. The 4S that this phone replaced did not have these issues.

I am hoping it's something a firmware update can fix. I was hopeful as I had seen some consistency in reports of around 4 degree off of level. But, seeing the recent post above where they got a replacement that is somewhat better, but still not correct, worries the hell out of me about this problem.

Mine is off 3 in all directions and my compass jumps all over the place too. I was told by the Apple Tech Supervisor today that the compass jumping around was also most likely caused by a software bug causing interference and should be fixed soon for it's their number one priority.
