My Apple engineer called me today and wanted to send me a test "patch" to be applied by iTunes, but it would wipe my stuff and I could not keep it as my everyday use because the radios were broken. I did it anyway and it worked! Restoring back to 7.0.2 so I can actually use my phone now.

Great news! Unfortunately that means that we wont see that in 7.0.3...

Huh? What are your referring to here? I see this is your first post on macrumors. I smell smoke. They would not send a random person a patch when it affects almost all of the 5S's. They have plenty in the labs they can test. Nice try.

what build number is it

Maybe first .....

When I first got my 5S, I also noticed it was consistently off between 3-4 degrees on all sides and 2 degrees flat. Over the past few weeks, I had been using DND at night with my phone face down on my bed (using sleep app for my alarm so I didn't want beeps and dings in the middle of the night). I tried level a few times in the past 2 days and now I get 0 on long sides on phone pretty consistently, 1-2 degrees on the top and bottom and 2 degrees flat. Not all zeros, but better than before). Haven't tried DND on a known flat surface, but it is interesting to me that it got better.

You are the first person whom stated that they had some luck or change, that's at least to my knowledge. It didn't do anything for me. I've done it for the last 5 nights and no change. It does drop 1 degree on all sides if I reset my iphone to factory which I find interesting and make me strongly feel that this is a software issue or at least can be fixed by a software update. What sleep app are you using? I may continue trying this to see if I notice any change over time. You stated face down on your bed.... Apple told me when performing this procedure that the iphone is not to be moved and is to be placed in a location when it won't be touched or moved. For you having it on your bed, I'd say it gets moved around a lot as you toss in your sleep. Not sure exactly what to make out of all of this.

The likelihood of this being true are very slim. I mean Apple engineers are not usually directly contactable for starters, and it's not like they haven't got any devices returned for investigation to apply this test "patch" to...

Also even if true I'd prefer to have a wonky gyro and working radios!

looks like 7.0.3 didn't make the tuesday 10am PST release so I guess thursday is the next opportunity if they release it this week. Usually 10 PST tue/thur is when they release updates. This is even if 7.0.3 addresses the issue at all.

I guess it didn't make it today at 10am PST either..

You do realize some of us are actual engineers... with direct experience in this exact application of hardware and software, right?

Not that we couldn't be wrong, but some of us aren't hobbyists or deriving our experience vicariously via Google.

I understand that. But your efforts are useless. It's like being a retired quarterback telling his wife how Payton Manning should throw a football. Or a cop in Hong Kong China posting tips on a blog for a crime committed in Brazil.
If Apple listened to people on blog sites the last iPhone would be at least 4.5" by now!

I'm using Sleep Time+ by Azumio. I also considered that the phone moves a bit during the night, so not sure what to make of that either. However, we do have to rotate the phone to calibrate it when first starting the compass app, so maybe moving a bit in DND helps. I don't know, I'm just pulling that out of my ***. Regardless, it did improve, just not sure of the reason.

PS: I'm not retired :apple:

Dnd has not done a thing for me or most of us but I will certainly try it again when 7.0.3 comes out :)

**** !

I spoke to my fortune teller and she tells me that the problem is either software or hardware. So the odds that she is correct is 50/50. Better advice than what that Apple tech supervisor told you.

Please post positive helpful comments.

Just asking, is anyone having the gold one with this issue ?

When i look on web for this issue, there are only pics with the grey and white.

I will get my replacement product by UPS soon, i keep informed on this thread with the build of both models and if the problem is fixed on the replacement product but i have no illusion .....

Dear all,

Just came back from holiday today. More and more members are now contributing to this thread but it seems as if we're still in the same position without a concrete fix or conclusion -

Any advice/ guidance on my situation would be appreciated :) :

Got a 5S - 16GB Gold - Week 39 - Factory C3

Flat : -3
Short edge : -2
Long edge : -2

1. Got a genius bar appointment booked in for Saturday in the Milton Keynes Store (UK)

2. 14 day online return period expires Monday.

What to do?

1.Get a replacement from store (as I don't have any intention of actually getting a refund because I love the phone and all is else is perfect). Do you think they will let me test the gyro issue with the replacement before I accept it? I'm currently happy with the condition of mine as its perfect without any blemishes or anything so am concerned accepting a replacement that maybe be 1 degree better but have cosmetic blemishes etc .

or

2. Call apple online on Monday (this being my last day to contact them) and order an express replacement with the hope they send a blemish free replacment without any gyro issues like our fellow forum memeber mercenary received (who happens to live in the same town as me) :)

Thanks in advance!

You never have anything positive to say and thus not being helpful. I have more to say but won't.

Because you guys are stressing over a level 2 out of 10 issue; it’s so easy to make fun of the situation. Do you want people to blow smoke up your butt and tell you that week 42 devices are fine and that people should swap them out only to find out that the swap was useless? Or how about he said she said conversations with Genius bar reps that don’t know jack? Or armchair engineers providing chip integration 101 theories on a system that’s locked down?
Enjoy your device until a fix comes out. I think that is the most positive advice anyone will give you here. There’s over 1300 comments and over a dozen scenarios.

Please post positive helpful comments.

Sit tight and wait for a fix. Is that positive enough for you? :D

Or do you want me to tell you to keep swapping your device until you’re lucky. So far that has been the worst information you can provide someone.

Relax !! If you read some of my posts, I'm not stressed out about this at all and have encouraged others to wait for a couple software releases and not to waste time in performing exchanges on devices that have the same issues and may be corrected by a software update. It pisses me off that Apple praises their products so much, and we all have to sit by and wait to see if our $900 iphones gets fixed or not.

So, I'm not fully sure what you're trying to say or prove. I have been and continue to wait to see if a firmware patch gets released. I repeat, I strongly feel that this can be fixed/corrected by a software patch.

I'm here trying to help others, not get stressed out by what others post. If you don't like some comments that others have written, don't read them or don't visit the site and just sit back and wait for a fix to come out.

Most of the comments here are about the grey and white 5s because right now the grey to gold iPhone 5s is probably 1:20. The gold iPhone 5s has the same problem, the comment under yours is actually about a gold iPhone 5s not being leveled.

Can you guide us what do you mean it worked? Are you suggesting that after installing the patch the gyroscope problem was fixed? And the phone was showing normal values? Thanks
