iHandy and Clinometer remember your calibration settings, so unless you reset them before you did the iOS update they would now give you incorrect readings.

Try deleting the app and doing a fresh install.

My racing games are now fine and Camera+ which shows you a horizon is fine as well.

okie dokie. i am on it right now.

I just did a fresh install of Clinometer and iHandy and both are fine for me. I really do think that the iOS update has fixed this problem.

Mine reads zero everywhere except bottom which is -1. Even when on zero on some sides the horizon line is still out so it's just scraping into zero if that makes sense.

Tried a flight sim, seems ok, very marginally off but ok.

Overall it will do for me........I'm not intending to build a house with it, just wanted somewhat accurate :)

To all those who said it was software, hats off. Some bad advise from Apple Support led to exchanges not bad customers.

Glad this is fixed. Can't wait to pick up my 5S on friday (if there is any in stock!).

Some people still report that the issue isn't fixed but it seems that the majority of devices are fixed. If it still bothers you then get a replacement. Chances are now that you'll get a device that shows better values.

it seems that it shows all 0's or some 0's and -1's. those are numbers i can live with :)

I sure as hell hope you are not a doctor and have someone's life in your hands!.

You also did not read my post correctly (or chose to ignore it). What I said was Apple should have provided better information to their support staff. I do not want front line staff to release false information. I only want them to provide correct information to the customer.

in my case, the information provided was incorrect (i.e. that it was a hardware problem when it was not). When I saw the Genius 8 days ago, Apple were probably well aware that it was a software issue which would be fixed in the next update. The Genius should have been provided with this information so that they could relay it to the customer.

In the end I am happy that the problem was fixed.

For you, I guess you need to find another thread or issue to complain and about to occupy your time.

I'm not a Doctor and if I had a customer with a life threatening issue call 911. If I provide false information I could lose my job and get sued. The Apple Genius staff are not software or hardware engineers and they should not have told you that it was a hardware related issue unless they have official communication from Apple. I told people that almost 2 weeks ago.

They Genius staff may or may not be software or hardware engineers, but they are the people who Apple put in customer facing positions to solve issues with Apple products.

If the Apple Genius diagnoses that the problem is hardware related, then who am I to question them?

Apple do not provide customers with direct access to their software or hardware engineers. You have to go through a Genius or AppleCare. This is what people on this thread did and what they acted on, so they did exactly what is recommended by Apple.

You said you are in the medical profession and so I assume you are not a software or hardware engineer either. I also assume you do not work for Apple. So why should people have listened to you and your claims that the issue was software related and that Apple would release a fix soon rather than listen to Apple employees who are paid to help them?

Anyway, I don't want to argue with you. I am just glad that the issue has been fixed (as I am sure everyone on this thread is as well).

7.0.3 is out. The notes state that the accelerometer calibration issue is fixed.

I'll update and test later today, but I am sure someone can give it a try before then.

I got lucky that I was correct. It could still be a hardware issue but for the most part 7.0.3 appears to be working. When compared to my wife's iPhone 5 I'm still off by 1 degree but when I use a level for comparison it's almost dead on compared to before. But it's only common sense not to keep swapping device after device when clearly a vast majority of people have this problem. The only options that made sense was:

A. Wait for a fix/official communication from Apple. The genius staff might "assume" that it's hardware or software but they don't know why it's software or hardware so early into the problem. There are people that get paid the big bucks to make that call.
B. Return phone within return period.
C. Swap unit out.

So much time was wasted with option C because people freaked out. Their was one person on this thread that swapped a phone 10 times. If your that obsessed just return it and wait.

iPhone 5s accelerometer/gyroscope/compass values incorrect

My racing games are now fine and Camera+ which shows you a horizon is fine as well.

Camera+ horizon line is still noticeably off on my phone and no, my house is not slanted.

They already have since yesterday morning/afternoon depending on location. Just try to read some of the posts above you to get their take on the fix

He's just stirring up stuff to try and get the thread closed just like the original one.

If it's working properly as advertised who cares what apple did. It was a calibration issue probably with the software and it's fixed now. Games, camera apps and even level apps work properly now.
Clearly you've not thought about this very carefully...

Mine is now a perfect 0 on all sides. Back is 0 to about -1 but I'd so closer to .5. When I use other level apps and compare to my ipad the iphone may even be a slight bit better. At this point the issue is 100 percent resolved for me as I primary use camera apps and some games. Glad they fixed the snapping effect in the parallax feature too.

....which has no effect on pretty much anything. I expect these phones to be out up to 1°. Any more than that, it's up to you what you do. But expect 0-1°.

Exactly! +/- 1 is nothing. There is a tolerance range for everything.

After 7.0.3, is still a degree on flat side.

Well, then why can older iPhones be more precise?!

Of course it makes sense if it's a hardware issue being masked with a software patch. Cheers!!

Exactly! (just like antenna-gate, were they changed the number of bars displayed, but you'd still lose signal if you held your phone the wrong way.)

But hey, apparently the Apple fanboyzzz are cheering and desperately want this thread closed because their new toy is now 'only' off by 1 degree, while iPhones like the 4 or 4S made 2-3 years ago can be spot on! Go figure...

The sensor is actually more accurate than that, but the app rounds to the closest whole number. Unfortunately mine appears to be off by about 1.5 degrees as simply touching my phone can switch the degrees it's off from 1 to 2. Many times it displays 2 by itself.

I know I should practice what I preach and not feed these people. This is completely different then anntena gate. Changing the signal status indicator did not fix the issue, the calls would still drop the same.

With the calibration fix the issue is resolved for most of us. My flight and racing games no longer drift to the right or left. It works as it always did on previous phones. My camera+ app shows the level indicator equal to the horizon. Before it was off 3-4 degrees making that feature useless.

There me be some cases where people exp -1 but I have seen this on the older phones too.

Fanboys or not most of us are happy Apple addressed this issue and I assure you its not some illusion to make us happy. It works the way it should.

Well, then why can older iPhones be more precise?!

To me, it makes more sense that it was a software issue. So many software glitches arise, why wouldn't a calibration glitch be the same? Haven't updated yet. Just getting to work now, I'm gonna do it here.
