No way...

10 mAh battery increase for a bigger screen, LTE and other goodies? That wouldn't even get me too lunch time.

Longer and thinner!

I'm fine with a taller screen the new safari tweaks in ios6 add real estate for height when in landscape mode so the extra width will be nice, movies will fill the screen for a change and angry birds will show more landscape. Perfect. Oh I love the black design too! I'll be second in the q like the last 4 years!

If that is the next iPhone then I'm jumping ship. I have been screaming for a 4.5-5.5" screen for a long time, so 4" isn't going to cut it. It's a shame because I enjoy the OS but Apple is getting lapped in the hardware department. Not to start a war of iOS vs Android, but if they release this and Android phones continue to make bigger and better phones then I think Apple is making a big mistake. Of course they will sale a lot but their market share is steadily decreasing.

Bigger does not equal better.

Wrong. The iPhone increased its market share more than Windows Phone and android combined last quarter.

Android has 59% of the market compared to Apples 23%. If that is an increase then that is trouble.

Bigger does not equal better.

Are you serious? I know bigger doesn't an equal better. But supplying the market with a product they want IS BETTER. The beat selling phones right now all have +4.5" screens. That would be something I'd call a trend.

Nobody wanted an Apple MP3 player I don't remember this at all...

Nobody wanted a touchscreen smartphone Nor this. In fact, we already had the, just not as good...

Nobody wanted an enlarged phone called an iPad I do remember this. And still find these tablets to be overpriced and less functional than other options (read laptops)

Nobody wanted a phone that talked back to you And we still don't... not as poorly as it is currently implemented :p And for the record, we had this before Apple "gave it to us" too, just to a lesser extent, again.

What do these things have in common? No one wanted them and then everyone copied them, after everyone bought them.

Responses in bold.

Nope. iPhone accounted for 34% of phones sold in the US. The next closest was Samsung with 17%. Android has 51% markets share but that is an OS, not a phone (hardware).

Also, try using some up to date stats.

I could be wrong here, but when talking "market share" I think most refer to globally. The US is great, But it's far from the only place on earth where said statistics matter. Europe and Asia are also HUGE players in the market...

And as far as stats, I try to stay away from Fan sites when reporting a stat. The includes any site that might have a bisa towards any one device. Not saying they are liars, but credibility is certainly diminished.

I'm arguing with someone that doesn't understand business obviously. Current market share means nothing if you don't look at trending sales. You're information taken from an Apple fan website doesn't take into account current sales. Yes Apple has a bigger share because other phone makers were way behind. Now Samsung is catching the quickly. Samsung outsold Apple in Q1 42.2 million to 35.1 million. That's a lot considering the S3 sold around 7 million units in June (estimates from Samsung). You are looking at the wrong numbers. You see who is currently in first, I'm seeing that their sales are decreasing worldwide. That's fact.

i'm almost 100% sure the other user was right. Could you link to facts? Everything I have seen says otherwise.

Done.

For those that can't read charts, the iPhone doubled Android’s Growth Rate in Q2 2012

What about June...? And we'll have to see how July and August turns out (provided that iP5 isn't released on Aug 7).

I don't really know the extent of the GS3. How popular it is, how good it is, or how much it's cannibalizing Apple's sales. But for my sake I hope Apple releases something amazing before I turn sides.

For you, who does not seem to understand how the world works.... the US holds 12-13% of the smartphone market. US stats mean NOTHING when looking at a company profile. You can have that iPhone outgrew Android as a whole in the US. I'll take that Samsung outgrew Apple by 14% worldwide. I'll make a lot more money at the end of the day.

The stats are from Nielsen. That's not a fan site.

I got the link to Nielsen from a fan site.

But since people can't or won't click through links, here's the direct link.

Samsung's best selling phone in the world is the low end Samsung Galaxy Ace, which proves the point that Samsung and android in general is king of junk phone sales.

The iPhone 4S dominates the premium priced phone segment. If someone is going to spend a lot of money on a phone, they usually choose the iPhone.

In general, when people want a phone, they choose Apple.

Let's try this one last time. You are using ONLY US stats. These statistics mean nothing when looking at sales. The US is such a small piece of the pie. Worlwide Samsung sales more units for a larger profit. Don't get me wrong, I love Apple and want to stay with iOS but I don't understand their strategy right now. The iPhone used to sale on name alone but that is no longer the case based on WORLDWIDE statistics.

And maybe you don't get that Samsung's primary smartphone driver is low end product sales, which is a market Apple will never play in anyway.

Samsung's best selling phone is the Galaxy Ace, not the GSII, not the GSIII, not the Note, but rather something we'd get for free on a prepaid carrier in the USA.

If you are going to post data, please don't make it up.

Not sure where you are getting your data, but the Galaxy Ace was far from being the best selling Samsung phone. In fact, it wasn't even a top 5 seller. It sold barely above the 1 million mark in all of 2011. The S2 sold around 28 million.

For a phone that only sold a paltry million units in 2011 according to you, why does it hold the position of best selling android phone among the Euros...

So does the 99 cent iPhone 3GS count as high end? :D

Im sorry to say if thats the new iPhone then I'm moving to Android. I cant justify £600 on that, its an awful design.:(

the top 3 Samsung smartphone sellers for 2011 were the S2, S and Nexus (although we can't really count the GNex).

Just because one area of the world "received" more retail units for sale, does not make the phone the best selling Samsung produced smartphone in the world. And please note, that is what you claimed. That claim was false. Please acknowledge this.

That chart can't be right.

Please note, that the chart he is using is a cherry picked data point for 5 EU countries where Samsung shipped units. Those countries being the UK, France, Germany, Italy and Spain.

While the Galaxy Ace was popular with the early 20's crowd that ended up switching from Blackberries, this was a trend seen in Europe, this is far from anything seen in the rest of the world. The S2 was the most popular smartphone for Samsung, right up until the S3 was released.
