This new iPhone may not look terrible but it definetly will be a disappointment

All of my friends and people I know say they can't wait for the new iPhone! Why? Cuz it's gonna look different and be a "redesign"
RIM released the same phone year over year and they must be doing great!

Plus having a 16:9 ratio and a longer but not wider screen only makes videos and landscape games a better experience. Portrait mode is used way more often than landscape yet they are only making landscape a better experience? Either this is a huge red herring or apple has hit it's peak.... I personally think that apple releasing this phone would just not be a good idea especially when 90% of the time your using the phone it's in portrait. I use my phone primarily for texting. All of which I do in portrait! And this doesn't help make it easier! I think apple is just messing with us! I mean Tim cook did tell everyone that apples security was being doubled on leaks ( next day we see the new leaks for the next iPhone? Seams kinda fishy).
But If it does look like this, hopefully the portrait mode will get some better modifications! Like a perminant widget area or something that makes this phone better than all the other alternatives (specifically gs3)

I wish you were wrong, but I'm afraid you're going to be correct. It looks like quite the oddity.

I want to be wrong, since I will be pre-ordering one, but don't think I will be.

That said, disappointment doesn't mean lack of sales. This new iphone will probably sell 5 million within the first 24 hours of availability.

those parts make this look pretty accurate

This leaked photo you posted is actually very nice. I really hope the new iPhone is different from the 4/4S - this has to much similarities, but the matte materials on the rear case and the silver band now being black make it different enough for me. If this is an accurate photo of the next iPhone, I'll go for it. I actually like it. But, I'm still hoping for a totally different iPhone redesign altogether.

Anyone that thinks a phone that looks like this will flop is losing it.

Its going to sell like hotcakes. I always said if it gets a bigger screen and nothing else it would sell well. I still think 4" is a bit too small for a screen but it is an improvement even if it still looks almost just like the 4 & 4S.

Nobody wanted an Apple MP3 player

Nobody wanted a touchscreen smartphone

Nobody wanted an enlarged phone called an iPad

Nobody wanted a phone that talked back to you

What do these things have in common? No one wanted them and then everyone copied them, after everyone bought them.

Where is your proof of that? I dont recall nobody wanting those things. Who wouldnt of wanted a touch screen smartphone or an MP3 player? I only see Apple fanboys saying new things arent needed when an Android thread gets started.

Since only a small part of the battery powers the screen the phone should have a lot more battery life

Gawd I hope those images aren't true. Two more versions (a "S" version of "tall iPhone" next release), before an actual all around larger iPhone, will just stink.

On the light side, if you go to another phone manuf. and sign a two year contract, you can get the larger all around iPhone in two years, and not affect your newly signed contract. :D

??? If the screen is LCD IPS, like it is now, and not IGZO, this is not an accurate statement. One of the largest battery hogs on a mobile device is to light the screen.

IGZO and pentile screens however allow for a lighter, thinner screen and save power at the same time.

If that is the next iPhone then I'm jumping ship. I have been screaming for a 4.5-5.5" screen for a long time, so 4" isn't going to cut it. It's a shame because I enjoy the OS but Apple is getting lapped in the hardware department. Not to start a war of iOS vs Android, but if they release this and Android phones continue to make bigger and better phones then I think Apple is making a big mistake. Of course they will sale a lot but their market share is steadily decreasing.

I want a bigger screen but no way do I want a huge calculator to walk about with as a phone. And that's my issue with the Android phones. They are to big for my taste.

I guess they will have their people and iPhone will have it's people.

And LOL at all the I'm dropping apple and going droid. People make me laugh with this childish whines on the internet. If something don't work for you fine, but why cry to strangers. Just do what you have to do.

first off if and that's a big if this is the new iPhone then they are just naturally progressing their design. Secondly if this is the new battery for it then you can bet your ass that the new phone will use a different screen tech reasoning not enough bump in juice to handle lte and a larger screen. Also I'm betting of this battery is for the next phone then it probably will feature a quad core processor built on a 32 or 28 nm process to also save on battery.

I think this is why apple always chooses to do a 2 year cycle on hardware to let the current tech mature to a level that it meets their standards and not just rush to have the best specs.

Also since the iPhone 4 and the 4s sales combined are probably now don't quote me in this but I'm figuring the greatest of all time an evolution of this design would be to they're advantage definitely make changes enlarge the screen it looks like the metal band has a gentle taper towards the rear of the phone. Decrease the size of the bezels, give it a metal cover on the rear and who knows what resolution or pixel density this thing will push I mean this thing could be a game changer in terms of clarity and speed.

Honestly though I'm a fan of the design now I could be in the minority I could be in the majority don't know. But for the most part I do like certainly more than the GS3 design. And I'm a fan of that phone.

The concept is a good looking phone. Sure, it has a lot of 4/4S DNA, but this is not a bad thing.

I think the overall design of the 4S is the best on any phone currently sold, with the HTC One X coming in 2nd.

For sure it will make most brand X phones feel cheaply made in comparison

Just realized. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't an Al backing interfere with the cellular radios built into the cellphone?

Gotta say, I hope they do offer or go with the Matte coloring. I like it. We've become too Glossy as a society!

And to all the posters who said in this thread and others like it, paraphrasing now "If it's this, I'm going to 'droid." Nobody cares. The new buyers will completely outweigh the noobs who leave because in their opinion it's fugly.

If the new phone is a quad core then it isn't getting LTE.

If the new phone is a quad core then it isn't getting LTE.

I think Sammy came up with a quad core that played nice with LTE... I know its not in the s3 obviously but for some reason I remember reading they came out with a new one. Maybe it was a new Tegra processor  of now I'm just rambling... ignore me.

Here is how I viewed the next iPhone situation:

Back before the iPhone 4S we had the rumours that we would have 2 phones. A 4S and a 5. The 5 would have a larger screen and a 'teardrop' design. As time went on Apple realised that the 5 may not be ready, so they changed the launch date to October to buy more time. Meanwhile case makers had gotten hold of the design and started manufacturing cases in the hundreds of thousands.

As October approached Apple realised that the 5 just wasn't going to make it and so they fell back on the 4S (which has a good spec and probably ended up with some of the spec of the unreleased 5). The 5 would then continue to be worked on and end up being the phone that came after the 4S.

However these new designs suggest that the above is all wrong and the whole teardrop design thig was just simply not true. These designs may also be untrue HOWEVER the big difference is that we have seen authentic looking part leaks which was never the case with the supposed 'teardrop' design.

I think the renders in this thread are the real deal. Either that or Apple have punked us big time. I don't think so though, Apple have always done their own thing so copying many Android phones simply wasn't on the cards.

Nope you're absolutely correct. There was an S3 with a quad core processor + LTE in KOREA, their homeland. However that variant of the S3 had to be built with a individual LTE antenna into the phone separate from the Exynos Chip.
In the US, the carriers had to test the LTE chips to see with they're compatible with their network, which takes alot of time. Only the Snapdragon processors built in with LTE were approved and tested with the carriers as well as the agencies to run on the different networks. As Samsung wanted to push the S3 out early in the US market to catch whatever sales they could before the new iPhone came out later this year, Samsung decided to go with the Snapdragon chip and substituted the quad core chip with the dual core one with 2GB Ram.

Honestly, I've heard that the snapdragon S4 chip in the US variant may not be as powerful as the Exynos Quad, but the performance comes pretty close and with 2GB of RAM, you can't be missing out too much.

If the new phone is a quad core then it isn't getting LTE.

True and false. There was a variant in korea with quadcore + LTE, so I wouldn't be surprised if Apple does that in the US too. The thing is that new chip with the new LTE chip built in had to be compliant and play nice with the carrier's networks and agencies for it to be sold and operate here in the US.
But given Apple's record of designing chips, they can't possibly go the route of building a SNAPDRAGON chip into their new phones. Instead, they would opt for a custom designed A-series chip designed by their own mini company Intrinsity and maybe place a external LTE chip in it.

In my opinion, most likely we would see a A5X chip in the new iPhone, possibly we wouldn't get the new quad core CPU but the new Quad core GPU instead, and same thing with underclocking. The A5X also came with LTE, so I assume this chip would play nice with the iPhone as well.

Wait til it's out, suddenly it'll be the best thing ever. I've no problem with the way it looks, for me it's all about the OS and I'm happy with iOS so no need to change.

Exactly. This is Apple we are talking about. They aren't gonna release a phone that users won't look the like of. It will look magnificent. People who say 'oh, it's gonna be ugly, it's gonna look horrible with a taller screen' have no idea what they are talking about. Also. I'm happy with the OS too.
