Except, "Siri" wasn't truly hardware dependent. Developers in the jailbreaking community easily ported "Siri" to unsupported devices.

Apple has generally tended to announce new features as hardware dependent to sell more devices. That's great, it's business, but a slight slap in the face for us tech savvy enough to know better.

I'd rather new devices have significant h/w updates aside from slight processor and camera tweaks. NFC would be a big one; whether you agree or not, it's been used and popular for years in Europe and especially Japan. N. America has some catching up to do.

Technically, Siri was hardware dependent. Yes, it could be ported to any device with a microphone, but in those cases it's performance would be adversely affected due to the lack of a designated voice processor that wasn't included in any IOS based devices until the 4S

Aw man, this puts my Canon HV30 more behind the latest tech. HDV camcorders are 60FPS and 1440x1080 max, but at least they don't have bad compressed quality.

----------

120FPS camera instead of 60FPS. Are they also going to double the microphone's sample rate?

The rumours are starting to build...

This is going to be the best iphone release ever...

Everyone is going to want one!

Filmic Pro allows for the iPhone5 to do fast motion filming so why not slow motion as well in a new version of hardware?

Speeding it up does not take extra frames. You could slow it down without extra frames, but it'll look bad after a while, and you won't be able to capture everything that happens.

There was an app called SlowPro (sic)? that allowed you to capture 60 fps video on an iPhone 4S or greater but Apple broke it with iOS 6.

So if a version of this feature is not included in at least the iPhone 5 then Apple is just being arbitrary since third party apps could do 60 fps earlier on a 4S.

SnappyCam does this now, for photos

Fast capture is even better for photography, when done right. No more posing!

SnappyCam on iPhone can take high quality photos up to 60 pictures/sec on iPhone 4S (iOS 5) and soon on more devices with iOS 7.

The higher the resolution, the slower it gets, but there's nothing anywhere near as fast and high-res as SnappyCam.

Shooting photos at 120 pictures/sec would be amazing. Can't wait!

Wonderful... Now If only they changed the camera icon with something less terrible.... :(

I have Siri working 100% on my iPad 2, and iPhone 4. So do a lot of people. Not one glitch. It works just as well compared to my iPhone 5, which ran iOS 6 and now 7 beta. Google it, you would be surprised.

i've the s4 and believe me this feature is awesome, real fun.
it's good to see apple catch up with the competition.

After watching that video, I am smitten. And I don't mean the phone technology.

The app SloPro used to capture at 60 FPS, limited to the iPhone 4S, but their method broke with iOS 6.

I don't doubt it. And part of the reason is that Siri isn't as "fast" as people would like it to be ;)

I love using this feature on my Note 2. :D
