The glass back was a horribly expensive design flaw. It was expensive to use the glass...and it was expensive for the consumer when the glass would break despite being in a case. My aluminum 5 looks much better after 10ish months than my 4s did after 3 months.

i think thats a bit of an exaggeration. removing the iphone4 backplate is extremely easy...and replacements quite inexpensive.

If it's the same form factor as the 5 then it looks like I'll be holding on to my 4s for another year. The elongated screen just doesn't do it for me. Crucify me all you want but I want a bigger screen.

You're going to be waiting longer than a year. This screen ratio is here to stay, and I don't foresee a bigger screen next year either.

It's pretty much a stupid comment when you judge a product without seeing it, knowing what it has, or knowing what it does.

This strategy of commenting makes you look ridiculous and will do nothing to stop making you look foolish in front of thousands.

Um no. haven't you noticed the trend? 3G>3GS>4>4S????

It's pretty obvious it would be like the iPhone 5 but upgraded internals just like it has been for years now. Which is why people wait for the big number, rather than the S as it's just a small update.

Wether it has one or two new features, there won't be a big wow factor as we all know what apple pretty much does every "S" generation.

Stop being an iSheep.

I was disappointed with iPhone 5 design and screen size. As were millions of other potential customers.... so much so that the iphone 4 continued to sell incredibly well. The iphone 5 just didn't feel like it was enough of a leap forward, and it made apple appear to have lost it's edge.

A larger screen maybe 4.5 or 4.7", with a nicer form factor would have gone a long way to helping Apple sell more iphone 5's. There are a lot of beautiful shapes, why we ended up with a mediocre attempt at a monolith is beyond me.

I think patience is wearing thin. A new camera and a well implemented fingerprint scanner in the 5s sounds great. It'd be nice if it were water resistant. I really hope the iphone 6 is gorgeous.

Your argument just doesn't hold water. S models have typically been a bigger jump in tech than the number upgrades.

Surprisingly excited to see what they cook up with this release.

Uhh ok? I own an HTC One - not sure where I said I don't want/like wider screens

Seriously, having used my HTC One, I'm actually in the "larger iPhone" camp - I just wish people weren't so ignorant. Comments like "I hope Apple makes it wider this time" don't help.....

Still seems nitpicky to be up in arms over people being unhappy with the elongated screen. It's obvious the screen is bigger, and that people are happy with it. But the other popular opinion that it feels against-the-grain/make-it-wider isn't ignorant...

[dream]I still think Apple will keep up with the iOS7 "surprise" and surprise us again with the iPhone 6 with a 4.5" (ish) screen, instead of a iPhone 5S.[/dream]

But I know it wont happen..

will surely go for this one, i'm curious about what are the iOS7 features which they are saving (& hiding) for the iphone5s.

Crucify you? Sounds like you are torturing yourself. If a big fat screen is your priority then why are you struggling with your tiny iPhone 4S screen? Sounds like you are a Galaxy Guy.

I don't know.. but the iOS7 deserves more than just a iPhone 5 with a S in the end. I'm just saying.

An iPhone 6 would surprise the entire world in a good way. It would be a clear message to everyone (including investors).

But again, as I just said on three comments above, it won't happen. Unfortunately.

What does iOS 7 deserve? iPhone 5S is going to be perfect for it, much faster CPU/GPU that iOS 7 will take advantage of. Just maybe, but I doubt it, it might have more memory in it. That will really speed up the iOS 7 with its new expanded multitasking.

Maybe he rather likes everything else about iPhone besides the screen size? :p I think with "crucify me all you want" he meant "flame me all you want", that has nothing to do with how happy he is with his device?...

That's why I don't understand the concept of the 'low cost' phone. They've already got one, the one from two years ago. I can't believe that developing an entirely new phone is going to be more cost efficient than just selling the old one.

The problem is they have to keep making the old phone and it's not a cheap phone to make. Glass back, etc....

Also the iPhone 4 has multiple variants for all the carriers, not just antennae configurations, but different chips, since it is not a "world phone".

I could see them dumping the iPhone 4/4s and coming out with an iPhone 5-lite for lack of a better term in conjunction with the iPhone 5s. They also dump the iPhone 5.

The 5lite would be cheaper to make than the 4/4s and cost the same with an iPhone 5 size display.

I'm no analyst but I do know a bit about component costs.

No I understand what he means, but seems at this point Galaxy is a reasonable alternative if size is that important to him. If it likes everything else about the iPhone more then why not go 5S. It's not wider, but it is roomier. Better half a dozen than none at all. Apple isn't likely to fatten the iPhone anytime soon so why keep waiting for Godot so to speak.

And I don't see Apple getting my money for a phone.
I have an Android phone because I want a larger screen.

They will at some point compete on screen size. Not a stupid phablet device but something in the 4.3-4.6" size. They will need to, to penetrate the segment of the market I'm in.

They *ONLY* way to sell me an iPhone is to get a bigger screen.
Others said they wouldn't do an iPad Mini, and I argued that they would. The market was crying for a smaller iPad and they sell in great numbers.

Now the market is crying for an iPhone with a larger display. They will cave, if they want to compete with HTC One and Galaxy 4S.

Hey, I like Apple products.
I own a MacPro, Mac Mini and two MacBook Air 13's.
We have 3 iPads in my house along with 3 iPods.
We also own 3 Android phones because none of us like the screen size of an iPhone. The only way to convert my household is with larger screen. There is no other feature that will get us there.

----------

I predict that Christmas will be in December this year.

Yea!!!! :D

And?

It's pretty much the same phone as the current 5, with a different camera and some other gimmick feature.

This strategy of releasing a re-hash phone every other year will do nothing to boost sales and stop the marketshare bleeding.

:apple:

That's not true for people who 1) have never owned an iPhone or 2) don't buy a new phone every year (you know, like most people).
