It's overpriced for something that is old gen in, as you say, "A different wrapper". People would rather buy the iPhone 5s.

I know I would.

Right. But selling the last gen model for a lower price has been the normal model for Apple the last few years. Just because they are branding it different this year doesn't make it a bad strategy.

Im now jealous and mad. I work for Foogle and naturally I buy Samsung, invest in the company I belong. I have always known iPhone is a better phone and AAPL wad a best buy before a new product launch in the fall. The prob is I have no capital left and my company's stock had no more head room to move, and if I use an iphone, I would have no job.

I know ppl that work at Google here in NYC and they have iPhones... I call utter BS. Also, Google has in-house Apple computers along with PC's and Google Chrome Netbooks...

----------

How many times have we been through this already. Its not like we DON'T know that the iPhone6 is coming in 12 months.

Screw that, from now it's online orders only from the comfort of my couch.

IF you can get past the servers, I'm going to be trying both AT&T and Apple's website.

----------

Ordering online at 2am, and I'm completely seriously expecting to get exactly what I want with no server hangups.

Good luck with that, I will have both the Apple and at&t sites next to each other refreshing rapidly to see which one works first.

US store just went down.

Cool, it sounds like we need to be ready to order ASAP. I may try a store tomorrow too. Luckily I have multiple upgrades available. I went through the ordering process for the app several times so I would be able to order quickly.

It happens every year, what made any of you think it would be different.

They do it on purpose for the press and hype.

It's not a bad strategy on Apple's part because people will buy it no matter what. It's just a bad buy on the consumer's part.

and customers have already begun camping out at Apple Stores across the country in the hopes of obtaining an iPhone 5s on launch day.

This was fun during the first launch when no one had an iPhone and the media was over it like white on rice. People had a blast waiting in line at the 5th Ave store in NYC. Now, forgive me fellow MacRumors members, it seems sad.

I was in Rochester, NY (upstate) at Eastview mall two days ago and there was a line waiting outside the mall; tents, guitars, cooking gear, Apple laptops and iPads and iPhones eagerly typing away - looked like a yuppie hippie protest.

If you already have an iPhone, why not wait a few days/weeks when stock is fine and grab it The "I must have it now" mentality wears thin.

See? SEE? Did this happened on 5C launch day last werk? Did it?

I said this too many times already. Folks buying for the main cast .. The 5s

If this is a concert, 5c is an opening band. Yeah a few audiences would applause for them. Not bad but it's only a filler. Especially when it costs very slightly less .. So, you know, people get in line and buy ticket not for the opening band now, do they?

The good news for buyers is that in the UK and Germany it is still 7-10 days and it's been available online for several hours now. My guess is that in 2 weeks Apple will get a big supply and we'll get our phones then.

as an update to this I am in Pittsburgh, PA in the USA and yesterday I called my local verizon store and they assured me they are getting enough stock to meet all demand for launch day but that I should plan to arrive at opening or close to it. My goal is to be there tomorrow at opening (8am) and see what happens.

The 5c didn't launch last week. It's also launching today/tomorrow.

Stock check info 5s

Talked with AT&T locally - small store in Tucson - walked in = 40 units (made it sound like 5s) 1 per customer. I'm assuming larger markets like NYC get more at the AT&T stores.

Target - Reserved (#3 and #4) but they said they did not get their shipment yet so they may not get any on launch day. He said they may get shipment in the morning but unsure. Or its possible the guy didn't know and they weren't allowed to say/inventory them yet. Who knows what quantity they will have.

Called Apple - 2 per customer - probably a large amount of them I assume. Lineup to start at 10PM

Walmart - walked in. Didn't find out customer limit - they were very unsure of what they had. Didn't even know if they had 5s but the guy was a little slow.

Best Buy - walked in. 2 per customer, no amount stated. They played dumb.

I'm assuming that Best Buy and Apple are the best bets but I'm not sure as anyone could be lying....

I'm not seeing on Target's website how to do this — did you place your pre-order online or in the store?

If it's going to be like the rest of the world — 7-10 days before availability in the US via the Apple Store online — then I might try Target or Best Buy since it sounds like people might be having luck through this route.

I went into the store and pre-ordered.

My local mall is opening at 6am, I am trying to decide between showing up around 4 or 5am to wait for the mall doors to open, then wait another few hours outside the Apple Store, or should I just order to damn thing online at 3am.

In years past, they've only ever delivered to the billing address on your cell account, and it can be a real PITA for me to receive packages at home. Thus the debate.
