How many times have we been through this already. Its not like we DON'T know that the iPhone6 is coming in 12 months.

Screw that, from now it's online orders only from the comfort of my couch.

I was calling around today to see what to expect in the morning. Local AT&T store told me they had very few 5s in stock and to be there at opening if I wanted one. I called Best Buy out of sheer curiosity and surprisingly was told they had tons of the AT&T models and I should be able to pick one up at any time tomorrow. I was so blown away I called back later and asked again, spoke with a different associate, who told me the same thing. I even specified it was the 5S and not the 5C and they confirmed.

Needless to say, I'm upgrading my phone at Best Buy tomorrow for the first time.

I have one reserved at Target for pick up tomorrow also. Seems like the best way to avoid the lines was pre-ordering with the right retailer.

What did you pre order?

iPhone 5s 16g space grey

This headline is misleading. What do you mean "dried up quickly"? Shipping started at 7-10 days and is still there. Not like it was 24 hours and went to 7-10 days shortly after. The marketing shills are out in full effect.

Just FYI, some small AT&T store in my neighborhood has 200 units. That's one little store. Dry supply my as*

Early reports in Australia seem to suggest that the iPhone 5s is the phone everyone wants, although lines are not as big as last year.

Quoted from the news story...

His decision to buy the 5S instead of the 5C was shared by many others in the line. News.com.au was met with jeers from the crowd when we asked them whether they wanted to purchase the 5C.

"The iPhone 5C is just the 5 wrapped in plastic," said Bob, an IT contractor who skipped work to be here and lines up each year. "I'm meant to be in a meeting."

I hope Apple is taking notice. It will be interesting to see the numbers for sales for the iPhone 5c to the 5s

Ordering online at 2am, and I'm completely seriously expecting to get exactly what I want with no server hangups.

Take notice of what exactly? If not for the 5C they would be selling the i5. They just gave it a different wrapper.

Everyone always thinks for whatever reason that each and every person is upgrading from an iPhone 5. in my case, I am coming from a 4S and it IS quite a leap going to the 5S.

According to AnandTech, Apple's claims of the iPhone 5s being 2x the speed for CPU and GPU over the 5 are accurate, and even a bit conservative in most areas, so I'd say the 5s is a leap coming from the 5, too.

But you're right, most people are on 2 year contracts and upgrade every 2+ years. The upgrade over a 4 or a 4S is nothing less than massive. Coming from a 4S myself, the 6.5x speed increase for UI responsiveness, 6.2x for multithreaded performance, and 2.5x graphics power will be most welcome. Then there's the radios, with LTE and dual-band 802.11n to make internet significantly faster (and, perhaps more importantly the race-to-sleep will improve battery life).

My 4S still feels great, running iOS 6, but for future-proofing, an upgrade to a 5s makes a lot of sense and running iOS 7 will be nice too. I'll keep my 4S as an iPod Touch with iOS 6 once it's deactivated, and I should get plenty of use out of it in years to come as a wifi device.

It's a shame that preorders weren't available, and the 5s won't be shipping for a week or two, but I'm not in a huge rush and won't stand in line all night at my local Apple Store. I'm actually looking much more forward to the new iPads, whenever they come out.

Exactly. Hate to say it but Apple have really ******** up this time. They've only got two phone models, FFS. I genuinely think the secrecy around the 5s has meant they thought they could manufacturer all of them within the last few days -- blag it, if you would -- and that just hasn't happened.

There haven't been supply issues this extreme since before the 3GS. Very disappointing.

If you were -- as a thought exercise -- an actual business owner would you spend your money up front to satisfy the need of pimply fetishists to get the thing a couple of days earlier or rather use other people's capital on loan for free? We're talking billions of dollars here. Supply management is king in CE.

And secrecy of the 5s? To quote yourself, FFS, the thing was virtually predetermined before it was even released.

Honestly, I wouldn't get your hopes up. Best Buy is notoriously bad with information.

I am picking mine up tomorrow at 8:00 am at Target. The reservation/pre order came through.

What did you pre order?

I'm not seeing on Target's website how to do this — did you place your pre-order online or in the store?

If it's going to be like the rest of the world — 7-10 days before availability in the US via the Apple Store online — then I might try Target or Best Buy since it sounds like people might be having luck through this route.

No. Only people who don't know anything think it is marketing based. It has been known for a while that the 5S was having yield problems most likely due to the fingerprint sensor. This has been known for at least two months.

Completely irrelevant to my post. I was speculating on why the 5S is being released tomorrow. The reason why there may not be stock available is another matter completely.

i should get one just to sell it on ebay ^^ no one ever cares at the tmobile store im always going to. been getting every iphone generation there without even preordering :) small town

Been going to my local AT&T store for the past 3 iPhone launches and this one is no different. I'll be there by 6am and I know I won't be the only one. Besides, my office is a few blocks away. Absolutely can not wait!

Verizon

I work for Verizon and the 5s is in plenty supply, we don't have the gold however. The 5c however is very limited in supply

It's overpriced for something that is old gen in, as you say, "A different wrapper". People would rather buy the iPhone 5s.

I know I would.

Seems to be 7th October or later for all of these orders. Makes me wonder if the iPhones they're ordering have even been manufactured yet!

Is that a rhetorical question? As the answer is obvious.

Tim Cook isn't the visionary genius that Jobs was but Cook is a master of production logistics. Oh wait...
