iPhone 5s

The new iPhone will not receive a major upgrade and may just be a slightly enhanced version of iPhone 5 (iPhone 5S), the sources said citing their latest specification data.

Why bother to even release this phone. How stupid do you think we are? Take a back seat Apple to the Samsungs of the world who are really innovating.:p

So what Apple are really saying is that a true competitor to the Galaxy S4 wont be available until 2014 ... but at least until then (then being the time we manage to get off our laurels and start innovating (or pinching ideas from others), you can have the pleasure of watching our nice adverts.

Too little too late, goodbye iPhone 4, hello Samsung - although in honesty, I am also running a Nokia 620 Windows 8 and the experience has been superb .. so I may forgo Samsung for MS. Oh how times change!

I could see how the windows 8 phones could make a push if they where more available.

Rumor

But this is all just rumors, right.

So just for the sake of arguments say it's true - what would they have to do make just a camera and CPU compelling?

(Snaps fingers) - we have a retina display, I get it - now we get the RETINA CAMERA? 114 megapixels. One picture takes up your ENTIRE phone!

If Apple releases the 5S with just a new camera and processor,

and if apple waits until fall to do it,

AAPL is doomed.

Yeah....right. Despite - the release of the S4 - Apple is still insanely profitable - has $180 billion in the bank and a whole suite of hardware and software and services.

Samsung is a hardware company that relies on Google. Once Google decides to rely less on Samsung for hardware sales - and it will - Samsung will be hamstrung. Samsung's success in the mobile market relies entirely on the quality of the products Google owns and controls. End of story.

The relationship between Samsung and Google is deteriorating.

Google is the real competitor to Apple in mobile software. Not Samsung.

Once everyone has a 5 inch commodity screen and equal processor - Samsung loses its unique position.

only apple does this

Personally I'd rather they skip the S, give us a little innovation and put a new 6 out next year. Bigger screen, changes to iOS, give Siri a French accent. That kind of thing. Throwing a letter on the end of the name and asking us for another $500 is getting old. Not just with Apple, but all the phone makers who want to take baby steps and charge us premium.

Apple is the only company that is devious and releases an "s" series anything and charges more for it. They are getting very old.

not true - it happens to be a pretty darn nice phone as well.

Now this is the story that illustrates that Google owns Samsung. The value of the phone is the software and cloud environment that synchronizes apps and data. The Nexus 5 will have a high res screen and improved camera (some rumors point to a Nikon camera) - and guaranteed upgrade to the newest versions of Android.

If they can keep the design solid and durable - that will trump the Android phone market.

Wow, you people who need a brand new form every single year need to seek help. Let alone the people who need a new form factor every 9 or 10 months; there is no help for such folks.

Some of these comments from entitled Apple fans are cringeworthy. :(

There are other things in your life that should make you happy. What a technology company does or doesn't do shouldn't make such a big impact. :)

iPhone 5s

:rolleyes:ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Wake me up when the real Apple returns. Probably in fall 2014 but by then it will be too late. I will be a Samsung user.

The HTC One looks like anything *but* an "average product". To be it looks like the best Android offering to-date, and most reviews so far have agreed. The hardware design alone is stunning IMO.

Yup. This. The Galaxy S4 might be getting all the hype and attention, but the One is the phone that most deserves it. If I were to make the jump over to Android, it'd be the one I'd get.

Not only do I think you're wrong - you also need to look up sarcasm - which is what iGrip was posting.

Perhaps some people at Apple feel nostalgia - nostalgia for "success stories" such as the Newton, that is.

The success story seems to be following the trajectory of the Mac. 1. Apple trolls through other companies' innovations, selects some and puts them together. 2. Other companies start doing the same, and surpass Apple's efforts. 3. Apple is relegated to selling a niche product to diehard fans, with little interest from the mainstream user.

Apple never had much success with the Mac, not compared to the iPhone. But other than that, the two stories seem quite similar. Time will tell.

I got a Motorola Razr about 18 months ago when I pretty much needed a new phone and Verizon had no timetable on when they could get me one and I couldn't be at my house to accept delivery of one from Apple. It's been pretty satisfying to own with a few exceptions. I like being part of the Apple 'eco system'. That bothers some but I like the seamless integration of Apple's products quite a bit.

But... The Droid Razr has been sturdy. I've dropped it a couple times with no consequences and I had the feeling that my old iPhone (which I still use as an iPod) would have broken. The navigation is excellent. There are a couple other things I like too.

Anyway, Motorola is now part of Google and I think we'll see more and more of that cooperation in Motorola's product line.

My next phone will either be the 5S (or whatever it's called) or whatever Motorola has as their top phone at the time I need one.

Finally, I think the world of cell phone innovation is somewhat plateauing. People want constant innovation but at the end of the day there's only so much a phone can do to make your lives better. Some people's posts seem totally pathetic in that they live or die based on what Apple brings to market. They have totally been swept up in the hype and seem to enjoy giving their money away.

Don't expect your cellular telephone to make your lives better. Honestly, the stuff I read here is amazing sometimes!

That would be dreadful. In my very limited experience with android phones, accidentally activating those buttons was the most annoying thing. I'll keep my physical click thanks.

I believe you when you say that you have limited experience with Android phones. Therefore, I ignore your conclusion about Android phones.

You should too.

How will Samsung trounce Apple in all respects? Really? Aside from a larger screen - granted its nice - where is "the innovation"? from Samsung.

Apple offers an integrated experience - I have compared the Samsung tablets to the iPad and their is no comparison - I can put Google Apps on my iPad and it is still better in build quality than the Samsung tablets. So Apple wins there.

Samsung and Android don't offer a desktop/laptop with a real Operating system that integrates with iOS.

While I agree Samsung has upped its competition - with the S4 - it has not provided everything Apple does as a company.

The moment Google abandons Samsung - they are dead in the phone market.

How is Apple's OSX/iOS "integration" so superior compared to Google's offering? Everyone has their own opinion, but Apple's Cloud integration feels awkward and confusing to me. I gave up on it for everything except Photostream and Contacts, and even those don't really feel very "integrated" to me. Web Access to iCloud seems pretty half-baked too.

iOS/OSX may be integrated in the sense that certain functions are built into the OS layer, but that doesn't make it easier to use or more feature rich.

Yawn...:(. I guess I will be sticking with my 5 or trying a Nexus or Nokia phone. I bought the 5 solely for the (slightly) larger screen at full price because I wasn't due for an upgrade, thinking I could use my upcoming upgrade when they released something new and exciting. Unfortunately, Apple seems to be sliding toward mediocracy/ complacency/just plain lazy design. Not to mention decreased build quality. This slide is revealed in their stock price, stale iOS, and ho-hum releases. There is nothing here to get even slightly excited about at this point. Hope this is not true.

Hmm, If iphone 5 only will have a slightly better camera and processor, but same design and everything else....then I think its time for Apple to consider doing a silent update. No point making an announcement on this.

Cmon. The hyperbolic announcement is an Apple trademark!

The new processor will the greatest processor the world has ever seen, for a whole slew of undisclosed reasons. The camera will be said to be better than any SLR on the planet.

There will be a HUGE public announcement, with a slew of highly paid executives onstage telling us how they cream their pants just thinking about the insignificant improvements.

I've chased off angry mobs with pitchforks before. Let 'em try.

If you have an iPhone 5 you don't have to buy A new one. I'm still on a 3GS and just about every app still works. You signed up for TWO YEARS, so what's the rush? Progress marches on... You could JUST WAIT for iPhone 6 in 2014. It won't kill you... And you will save $500 this year by keeping the same phone.

By NOT making big upgrades this year Apple is SAVING you money!

For the rest of us on 2-3 year old phones, the 5S will be great. Lots of accessories are finally shipping, we won't have to wait 6 months... It will be a GIANT upgrade from a 3GS or 4 adding value because Apple will probably drop 3GS support this year.

Well no, that just opposite. iOS and OS X integration is on level where Android probably never be, unless they will do major changes soon.

Integration of Apple devices is unreachable for other competitors, nad for example MS knows that, and tries real hard to come closer. Android is still in wonderland..

Are people really complaining about a 5S with upgraded internals and no hardware change but yet are claiming Samsung is innovating and are ready to buy a galaxy S4 (S3S) when's that phone is almost identical to the S3??

Those people are hypocrites! It is not FAIR what they say about the i5!

Therefore, the i5 is very good! No matter what!
