How is Apple's OSX/iOS "integration" so superior compared to Google's offering? Everyone has their own opinion, but Apple's Cloud integration feels awkward and confusing to me. I gave up on it for everything except Photostream and Contacts, and even those don't really feel very "integrated" to me. Web Access to iCloud seems pretty half-baked too.

iOS/OSX may be integrated in the sense that certain functions are built into the OS layer, but that doesn't make it easier to use or more feature rich.

I don't disagree with you at all. Read my earlier post - I think that software and cloud integration should be Apple's focus not chasing commodity hardware specs.

However, unlike Google - Apple does have a PC/Desktop/Laptop platform that can integrate with its mobile offering. I like taking a pic on an iPhone or iPad and have it appear on my iMac waiting for me to work on it in my photo library.

iCloud needs work - but has LOTS of potential.

Well no, that just opposite. iOS and OS X integration is on level where Android probably never be, unless they will do major changes soon.

Integration of Apple devices is unreachable for other competitors, nad for example MS knows that, and tries real hard to come closer. Android is still in wonderland..

You may be right. But I'm looking for some examples. What is so amazing and "unreachable" about this integration?

another member stated it really well... no more iterations, more innovation.

Why is it I get the feeling that if Apple doesn't come out with a new form factor every year, a lot of folks on here are going to cry and moan?

Sorry, but not everyone can afford a new phone every year.

At least describe what you're looking for. Share some specific examples of what you want from the next form factor, and what you think iOS 7 needs to include to satisfy you. -and don't just list a bunch of crappy "well Android's is can do this so iOS should too" bologna.

I honestly can't think of any feature they could add to the 5S hardware that would make me upgrade from my iPhone 5. It already does pretty much everything I need and if there are software upgrades with iOS 7, then I am sure the 5 will get those anyway.

no they didn't - they said they did and some people actually believed it.

So, 4" is not larger than 3.5"? Got it. Thanks for the math lesson.

well, Samsung just moved to Retina resolution. When Apple did that two years ago, it was all "wow!", "amazing!". When Samsung does the same for a gorgeous 5" AMOLED display, it's all "boooh", "nothing new".

LOL. Because Samsung, once again, is mimicking, not innovating.

Yup. This. The Galaxy S4 might be getting all the hype and attention, but the One is the phone that most deserves it. If I were to make the jump over to Android, it'd be the one I'd get.

I agree. I would go as far as to say that if HTC had a marketing budget the size of Samsung's, they could probably sell just as much as the S4. The S4 and its slew of gimmicky and ultimately useless features left a lot of be desired. The HTC One looks like a premium, well built powerhouse of a phone and serious competition to the iPhone 5.

Lol. Like this is a confirmed release! Omergawd Apple is doomed....

Personally the iPhone 5 is still the best most functional phone out there, a lil os upgrade wouldn't hurt, but for the most part I'm happy as larry.

I can't see apple deviating from their current arrangement, it seems to work :)

:Apple:

What does this have to do with everyone being able to afford a new phone every year. There is no reason someone needs to be totally up-to-date with a phone unless they do have the money to do so. I personally just want Apple to keep up with innovation. The fact that they have not released more than one size of phone boggles my mind. Its not hard to support two different phone sizes. Most companies like Samsung seem to support 100 at a time.

1. Not everyone likes big screens, I know people that prefer the 3.5" instead of 4" screen.

If Apple relegates itself to this sort of a niche market, my guess is that all other telephone manufacturers will throw huge, lavish parties in celebration.

If we're talking about "potential" then it's hard for me to disagree. But your example of PhotoStream illustrates one area where I think the integration sucks. For me to access my PhotoStream in OSX I need to purchase iPhoto, and then I need to patiently wait while iPhoto loads my entire library. All this before I can access a single photo. iPhoto isn't even an OS feature, so it's hard for me to understand why this should be considered an OS integration? It's been a several months since I've actually done this in OSX, so maybe things have changed?

Ok just for you :)

Contacts - seamless integration: smartphone/tablet/laptop or desktop
Photos - seamless integration: smartphone/tablet/laptop or desktop
Emails, messages, reminders, calendar seamless integration: smartphone/tablet/laptop or desktop.

Music, Movies, Apps: seamless integration: smartphone/tablet/laptop or desktop

Lot's of desktop Apps have similar or same UI as your tablet and Smartphone, except few little things which can be better used on mouse driven UI.

basically you can change everything important on one of your devices, and have it soon changed on all your other devices without much effort.
no logins, no sync butons, no pairing.. it.just.works.

Set it and forget it method.

The 5S is innovative?

From these specs mentioned it appears more dated than anything else.

Yeah - OctoCore CPUs in phones are so, like 5 minutes ago! Why did Sammy use such dated internals!?

I don't know why Apple don't make more than one iteration of the 5 or 5s or whatever. Make it fatter, give it a bigger battery, more RAM, an SD card slot, all these things could be accommodated in a fatter body. They seem quite happy to offer more than one MBP, so why not more than one iPhone. Apple gets accused of not enough choice, so the other manufacturers counter that with multiple offerings.

Which of these can't you do in the Google ecosystem? At home we have two cheap Android devices, one being a Touchpad with Cyanogenmod and another being a little Andoird HDMI "stick" that plugs into the TV. I sign into my Google account and everything magically appears. (apps, email, contacts, settings, etc etc). Changes propagate, and I can even install apps remotely to either device using a web browser. So far it's been pretty impressive.

Note, I am *not* an Android fanboy, but very close to making the switch, and increasingly disappointed in what I see coming out of Apple.

The HTC One looks like anything *but* an "average product". To be it looks like the best Android offering to-date, and most reviews so far have agreed. The hardware design alone is stunning IMO.

I wasn't talking about the HTC One but previous phones - the HTC One is pretty good but it doesn't address the issue regarding regular updates and upgrades which come as icing on the cake with an iPhone.

The HTC One will probably end up like HTC's last phone: ignored. Despite rave reviews it probably won't sell well. Maybe HTC could build the next Nexus phone.

+1
i got a motorola razr about 18 months ago when i pretty much needed a new phone and verizon had no timetable on when they could get me one and i couldn't be at my house to accept delivery of one from apple. It's been pretty satisfying to own with a few exceptions. I like being part of the apple 'eco system'. That bothers some but i like the seamless integration of apple's products quite a bit.

But... The droid razr has been sturdy. I've dropped it a couple times with no consequences and i had the feeling that my old iphone (which i still use as an ipod) would have broken. The navigation is excellent. There are a couple other things i like too.

Anyway, motorola is now part of google and i think we'll see more and more of that cooperation in motorola's product line.

My next phone will either be the 5s (or whatever it's called) or whatever motorola has as their top phone at the time i need one.

Finally, i think the world of cell phone innovation is somewhat plateauing. People want constant innovation but at the end of the day there's only so much a phone can do to make your lives better. Some people's posts seem totally pathetic in that they live or die based on what apple brings to market. They have totally been swept up in the hype and seem to enjoy giving their money away.

Don't expect your cellular telephone to make your lives better. Honestly, the stuff i read here is amazing sometimes!

It'd be a shame to waste such a great design on just one release. I don't have a 5, but I get totally jelly whenever I see one. It makes my 4 look chunky.

The 4 series IS chunky. I see them on the bus - big thick squared-off bricks with tiny screens. They look especially brick-like when people put them in thick rubber cases to correct their all-glass construction.

The i4 series looks like an old-school nightmare of a phone. No wonder Apple fans don't want a bigger screen - their present phone is so thick, it is difficult to pocket, and they imagine that the thickness will increase if Apple uses a normal-sized screen.

That's fair. It does appear that when you go with a non-Nexus phone, you're at risk of slow updates. That would be frustrating.

I just Apple puts the new 802.11ac in the iPhone 5s along with new Airport, Airpot Extreme & Express along with Time Capsule to the new 802.11ac (also updating all the Macs this year to new 802.11ac).

The S4 doesn't look particularly difficult to catch up to, as it's mostly an S3 with a faster CPU and GPU, and upgraded camera... iPhone 5S should just about do it in those respects.

The i5S will not have a 1080P screen. So normal people will not realize that the tiny little blurry lo-PPI iPhone screen hides a truly better User Experience.

People can be so stupid! Its all about the UE, people! Even if you cannot see it clearly!

That would be good, but third party routers would have to put in ac for it to be useful.

OK, the keyword is seamless ;)

Google doesn't offer music and movies in all countries, and if you are on laptop, you have to be logged into your Google account for some services, it doesn't "just happen".

Anyway it's your choice, try Android try Google maybe you'll be happy, maybe not. I am happy to ged rid of most Google services, I don't want to be abused by this data miner, whose customers aren't users, but advertisers, you can see that clearly on canceling Google reader, no money from it, no services for users, they would do same with Youtube or Maps, if they would not be able to get money from it... If I would have to switch from Apple, I would rather go WP.
