If Apple is not innovating, so by this definition Samsung isn't either. There is nothing innovative in the S4.
Doesn't matter. The meme is Apple isn't innovating and everyone else is. Some of the stuff written about Apple these days is :eek: and Apple doesn't have a %^!# clue what to do about it.

I'm thinking about making the switch too. I've had every iPhone except the 5. I was left uninspired by the 5, and the 5s is (predictably) sounding just as boring. iOS is feeling old and stale, and limiting.

I had been considering the S4, but I'm really liking the One. Can't wait to see it in person. The physical design looks like something that could have been produced by Apple.

I really like the white 5, and was really impressed with how much better the display and front facing camera was over my 4.

And I don't have big hands, so prefer the smaller screen, but like the extra height on the 5 as it fixes the two things I can think of where I've thought space a bit short on the 4 - namely the week view in the calendar in landscape, and the space below the month view for events only having space for two. Plus the addition of the panorama function to the camera.

So come the 6, with a bit of a redesign in the direction of the HTC / iPod Touch, a 128GB 4G and I'm sold.

Better camera? Better processor? 3rd quarter? I'm not sure - but this is starting to look a lot like complacency. And considering the fact that Apple's lost almost half its value and that the HTC One and the SGS IV are looking like massive hits, this almost looks like they're doing it on purpose. Perhaps some people at Apple feel nostalgia - nostalgia for "success stories" such as the Newton, that is.

HTC can't even manufacture the one because they are can't get anyone to give them components. The SGS IV is not even released yet and has not gone through any real reviews. The first impression reviews were all pretty blah.

You are comparing a phone that can't be manufactured and a phone no one has used against a baseless rumor from a notoriously unreliable source.

Rumors

I know this is a rumor site, so complaining about 8 month old rumors that are vague enough that this is just kind of "pointless." This article is the very definition of "duh."

5S -> quad-core ARM
6 --> dual-core Intel

Alas, ARM emulation on Intel s*cks (both in performance and battery drain). And Apple doesn't switch CPU ISAs without offering a temporary emulation layer for a few years.

More likely is they use their $Billions to bribe Intel into fabbing their custom ARM SOCs.

In terms of updates I don't want Apple to play copycat and cram every new feature they can think of into the phone. I want things that I'm going to use that preserve the current look and feel. It works and is familiar. Are people seriously wanting Apple to go down the Microsoft route and gamble everything on a new interface?

Nope, I don't want them to cram everything into iOS either. But at the same time, I would love for them to focus on use cases. And unfortunately, I think some of this is fundamental to iOS and won't change. I can't believe iOS is in it's sixth major version and I still have to navigate through "settings" to turn bluetooth on/off. I can't believe notifications are still so awful and the "notification center" UI is so terrible and so uncharacteristic of Apple. I don't know why I have to jump through hoops to attach a file to an email (unless it's a photo or video). Why am I always bugged by Game Center, which I have absolutely no interest in? And yes, I'd like to have widgets on the home screen. You see them as gimmicks, I see them as somewhat useful and fun.

Apple seems adamant on driving down the share value - so that they could complete their buy back cheap

typically contracts are 2 years, so we have two patterns.
iphone -> 3gs -> 4s -> 5s
and
iphone 3g -> iphone 4 -> iphone 5

I don't think it's Apple's intention to encourage users to upgrade every single year, it's just for those that are on the offset +1 year that need a reason to renew their contract.

For me it was iphone 3g -> iphone 4 -> Samsung S3

Its not all about contracts thought - I bought the iPhone 4 so could change after a year if it was worth it. Turned out it wasn't worth it even after 2 years and eventually I gave up waiting.

Do you really think Apple cares what you all complain about on Mac Rumors? Sorry the mass population doesn't care about "innovation".

This might sound weird...but honestly what's keeping apple from innovating and making their OS better is the cult following behind Apple. People will buy whatever Apple makes...and they don't need to make it better for people to buy it. So why spend the money on R&D?

I'm being serious...I know a bunch of people who have iPhone's and I try to show them my Galaxy Nexus, but they don't care...they already will buy the new iPhone even though the OS is old and stale.

What will really make Apple wake up is when all these sheep stop buying their products. Even though the "iPhone 5s" will only have a small processor and camera upgrade people are going to buy it like hotcakes. So why does Apple care about our complaints? Most people will buy whatever crap Apple sells.

You'll see true innovation from Apple when the mass population finally stops following Apple like a cult and actually open their eyes and see the competition has bypassed them.

Honestly, Apple doesn't have time for a small update with the competition rising. In theory, by the time they release the features equivalent of the Galaxy S4, the Galaxy S5 will be out.

I do not care if they release an s, for its apples signature to release an s version every 2 years, and while I am contract. I am hoping this years model brings a better camera, NFC, a more stable ios and a host of other features like themes (one can dream) which I can use when I get my iphone 6.

Well that's all we have to go on right now. And it's not like this is the first article suggesting that the next iPhone will be an "s", containing only a few spec bumps. And clearly it would fit the trend for iPhone releases over the last few years, so it's not a wild speculation either.

Maybe the genuinely don't care. The only thing exciting about the nexus is the price and the fact it is one of only a few Android phones where you have a shot at a supported OS upgrade.

The Widgets like weather and stocks are already on the notifications screen. You can already use Siri to open any app on the device.

The above (my other post) wasn't necessarily something I would make much use of, but would potentially appease users who would like that sort of thing. Swipe one way for existing screens, swipe the other way for widget style screens, rather than necessarily reinvent everything.

Apple have made my S4 purchase even easier!

I actually starting to think exactly the same.
Ive had all the iPhones, and [stupidly] update yearly. But Im at the point now where I seriously think the iPhone5 may very well be my last iPhone, and if I do decide to change it'll almost certainly be a Samsung Galaxy!

Apple stated a new innovation. They were way ahead of the competition. Now, in my opinion, they are almost struggling to lag behind - and this is coming from someone who generally likes Apple equipment (see my sig!)

When i bought my first Mac in 2006 i was amazed by it, then later in 2008 i bought my first iPod (2nd gen iPod touch). The experience and integration of the services as well as device quality in my opinion is unmathed by others since.

And now when i'm buying something i always take that into consideration. I have iPhone 4 now, but if i had to pick say from iPhone 5 and this new Galaxy S4 iPhone would win hands down. Overall experience and ecosystem is just unmatched for me.

If the device performs i really don't care how much RAM it has or what CPU it has.

You don't have to make the comparison at all :) No one is compelling members here to make comparisons based on wild speculation and hardware that may never be sold.

What are you comparing anyway? Digitimes writes the exact same story every year. What do you know about the new processor? How much faster is it? What about the GPU? How is power consumption? More megapixels on the camera? Why? What type of sensor will it use?

The Macrumors article is quite a bit longer than the Digitimes source. There are no details you are missing in the story. There are no details at all.

If I dont buy the new iphone am I not allowed to buy/use other Apple products?

I own many Apple products so find your comments rather inappropriate and immature.

You can buy whatever you want. Even huge phone with 4 hours of battery life.

I just don't understand people who compare phones by number of cores and huge displays and make stupid conclusions.
