You actually make me want to praise Apple's customer care even more. You caused the problem and demanded it to be fixed and even though they already had your money and had no reason to go out of their way to help you; they did and you are still mad?

Boy: Do not try and bend the iPhone. That's impossible. Instead... only try to realize the truth.

Neo: What truth?

Boy: There is no iPhone.

Neo: There is no iPhone?

Boy: Then you'll see, that it is not the iPhone that bends, it is only your friend that sits on it.

Ummmm...I said this back at 119. Go steal your own stolen jokes and stolen overused movie lines. ;-)

First, it's BENT not BEND.

Second, this thread is unbelievable. You bend your phone and claim it's defective? How the hell does someone even do that? Be more careful of your belongings and stop blaming everyone else for your carelessness...

Thanks for the heads up. I have been putting my 4s in my back or front pocket (depending on what I am wearing) for the almost 2 years that I have had it without issue...including the several times that I have sat on it.

It is good to know that the 5s will not be as durable.

For everyone that's purchasing a new iPhone 5S, check and make sure the phone is not bend even slightly. If it looks like it's bend slightly, it's probably not your imagination and it's defective.

So my friend had order an iPhone 5S online and received Wednesday. I helped him setup his new phone and noticed the fingerprint home button doesn't work correctly. I told him to take it to Apple for them to see what's wrong. At the time, I didn't see any warp or damage on the phone. I put on a screen protector and in a case and gave him the phone after setting it up. Since my friend was rushing to go pick up his daughter from dance class, he didn't inspect the phone closely. He did notice the phone seem to be warped a little when he got into his car, barely noticeable, and chalked it up to bad lighting.

On Saturday afternoon, my friend noticed the screen protector was a coming off near the volume button so he took it out of the case and really inspect it. After 3 days of use, no dropping, just in his front pocket when he goes out, the phone had warped right by the volume button. We took it back to Apple to exchange it and was given a hard time about it.

Per the tech that helped us, this is consider wear and tear/ abuse of the phone. I explain to him that this phone was used for 3 days, there's no marking or scratches on it. We never dropped it. The first time this phone was dropped was when we went in and the Apple employee that checked us in dropped the phone. The tech went on and said this could have happened because my friend sat on his phone. Um... Sorry Apple but a lot of people put their phone in the back pocket. If your phone can't withstand being sit on, you should probably put a disclaimer on your phones. For a small guy who's maybe 140 lbs to sit on the phone and have it bend from that within 3 days? There's a defect on Apple's work, not us abusing the phone.

Needless to say, the tech made it sound like he did us such a huge favor of exchanging the phone. Never had I had such horrible service at Apple. To be accuse of damaging something when it was defective to begin with. I'm ok with the fact that some of the phones might be defective since Apple is trying to make 6 millions of them if not more but don't accuse us of breaking it when it's clearly a problem with Apple not us.

You couldn't last 3 days without sitting on your phone. You would benefit from the rumored iWatch.

While I disagree with the op's notion that an iPhone bending from sitting on it is a product defect, it's pretty likely English is a second language for the him so maybe you'd consider cutting his grammar a little slack. Okay, Mr Strunk?

See I find it odd that there was an issue getting it replaced. My phone (5) was checked to see if it was bent the last time I had it replaced. I told him that I don't understand why people put phones in their back pockets when they sit. He told me that they replaced phones that are bent because it's a "flaw" and that they aren't supposed to bend if they aren't "abused".

The last 3 times I have been to apple the service experience was horrible, each time I had to call corporate. I had a tech try to tell me on my second visit for the same problem it was water damage without even looking at the phone. The first time in the other tech opened the phone and confirmed that the hardware looks fine and battery tested ok. Even after explaining this to the second tech still tried to say its water damaged due to the discoloration if the pins in the doc connector even though the water indicators were still white.

I took it up with corporate and I had a new phone sent to me right away. There customer service is going downhill something apple has always been known for if they lose that then they will lose a lot of customers I believe

Try a different store....

Putting a phone in your back pocket is a bad idea for obvious reasons.

And not only iPhones, my Friend sat on his 'candy bar' LG phone and ruined the screen.

With that said though, my iPhone has warped slightly in the same area, just being in my front pocket, and I DO NOT wear tight jeans.

It's obvious the iPhone is weakest at that point.

It's aluminum not adamantium. If you sit on it yes you could bend it and yes it would be your fault not Apple.

Not the tech might have been a tad rude and shouldn't have taken out his day of dealing with pissy folks on you but that's a different issue. But yes he perhaps did do you a favor given that bent phones are, under the guidelines they are given, considered damaged.

Thin, non-tempered aluminum and that is the smallest cross section on the entire phone. It's a weak spot for sure. Still, don't sit on a electronic device. You won't sit on a Rolex, iPad or laptop would you?

Actually, a Rolex is very tough with sapphire glass crystal. You can sit on a Rolex all day long

Maybe this is a troll post. (edited)

One, you can't tell what model phone it is, 5 or 5s. (It's a 5s, as corrected)

Two, it's clearly bent, not "defect" bent, but "Hold the BatPhone(TM) he sat on it" bent .

Three, the screen cover has bubbles, indicating the bending action occurred after the application.

Finally, one poster recalled seeing the photos before, and I recall this too, it was run on Engadget, some time ago. I may be wrong, but there's something to them, my gut says troll bate. (Not possible as shown to be a 5S)

NOBODY I know puts their phone in their back pocket. What a terrible idea.

That's not the point. The point is you could put the iphone 4/4S in your back pocket sit on it and it would not bend. Now people will have to change that.

I see people put their iPhone in their back pocket all the time. It doesn't mean that it's right, but I have seen it.

I think if you have a 4/4s and it cracks because you put it in your back pocket, thats on you. Any phone in the back pocket, damage is the responsibility of the wearer.

Front pocket is a different story.

----------

You can tell its a 5s by looking at the dual flash.

I apologies. I didn't even notice that. I was so stuck on the possibility the OP was trying to "cause" some furor.

I've had a Droid Inc 2 for the past 2 years and it's an incredibly durable phone. I always keep it in my back pocket and I always sit with it in my pocket without even thinking about it.

My iphone 5S is coming this week so I do have some major concerns because habits are hard to break. It's going to take a conscious thought every time I sit down to make sure I take the phone out of my pocket.

Wish me luck.
