Any issues with the iPad Air 3 if it uses A9X while staying at 2GB of RAM?

Only wondering because the odd # iPads (iPad 3, iPad Air 1) got shafted.

Getter processors but same RAM basically decreased life span.

Meanwhile iPad 2 and iPad Air 2 probably have some of the longest life span.

They could simply call the iphone 5se the iBrick..but I don't think Apple will see the humor in that. :)

I'm hoping the call it the iPhone Mini.

Awesome news! Not totally surprised either. I didn't think Apple would release this without "Hey Siri" functionality. I'm excited I'll be able to buy a flagship 4-inch iPhone again.

Say what?!? I went from a first gen to an Air, and there was a huge difference.
I went from 1st gen to Air 2. Talk about a massive difference. I can browse Safari without it crashing??!!!! But I really do think the largest jump in the iPad experience was iOS9.

for those of you who are still holding on the iPhone 5s. first, install ios 9.3 beta and see for yourself. this phone is freaking smooth so no reason to upgrade to 5se. but you better stay in ios 9.3, because when iOS 10 out, it will be dog slow i bet.

Really...

There's plenty to be excited about with the 5se that has nothing to do with speed.

Although I want a 4-inch iPhone, I think I'll pass on buying the 5se right away. I'll wait until the iPhone 7 is released and then decide; if the 7 doesn't improve over the 6S by much, I'll pick up a (hopefully price-reduced) 5se instead.

I think a few months to shrink it down is OK, making big phones is easy.
Fitting the same stuff in a smaller device is harder. :)
you are right in that regard, but remember that at this point what is using most of the space in the phones are the battery, and with a smaller screen the amount of energy needed also decrease.
And if apple stopped the obsession with being thin (even though they made a camera bulk on the 6 design) af few more mm in thickness would not be the end of the world

I am thinking more and more that this will be an iPhone 6S mini not a 5se.

5se is an horrible name, I don't think Apple will use it for the next iPhone.
The 5s was introduced in 2013, they can't come up with a 5se in 2016, it'd sound old.
6 Mini or 6 Air would be a better name, but let's wait another month to find it out

Always something that they use the A9 instead of the A8.
But i had really hoped that apple would stop this nonsens with having a flagship line in form factor of the 6 and the 6+ and then the 4" with last years tech.
The worst part would properly be that the price difference isn't that big anyway...

Yeah, it'll be much closer to the price of the 6S than the 5S.

I don't know why you all get your hopes up. They are going to hold something significant back to make the good news all turn blue again.
Well, aside from the chip (which we can presumably agree will be the A9) what is there that significantly differentiates the 6S from the 5S?

My provision is, A8 with 2GB of RAM (such as apple ipad mini 4 and appletv 4) for 5se and A9X for iPad air 3 or even the A9 ordinary, but if they want the ipad 10 "continue to give war are left to put the A9X.

Sold, depending on the price of the "5SE", if I can sell my 6S Plus and easily buy one I will be happy.

If only the iPad Air 3 had 3D Touch I'd buy it. So, I guess I'll wait for the Air 4.
I have 3D Touch on my 6S+ and so many times I've just ended up with wiggling apps from trying the same on my iPad!

Once we know its name, we can call it by its name. Until then, "5se" works as a placeholder, because we know what it means. Changing to a new temporary name for this rumored device at this point would be confusing.
I don't know what it means? I get what "6s minus" is supposed to mean, but I don't understand "5se" at all. That name was confusing from the beginning, changing it could only create more clarity.

Hopefully they will end sorting out the branding. 5se is confusing, and doesn't really make sense if it has components from 6s models like CPU or camera from 6. I still think 6s mini will be great, or just mini =)

Can't wait!

Agreed. They almost need a clean break name wise to show it as something different. I remember the iPad had similar issues before it was rebranded as iPad Air.

I kinda wanna update my 5S but not really sure why I would get the 5SE.

Its faster but should I care when I think the 5S is plenty fast?

Its got NFC but thats no use outside the US and China.

Other than a better camera, faster touch ID and VoLTE support, will the update be meaningful?

I'd wait for the next iteration if I had an iPhone 5s. This phone is more a worthy update for those with an iPhone 5 or previous.

I think it's all P.R. Apple will go with the 5SE name to avoid having three iphone 6's. 6 6 6

Very clever. But that's not my point. My point is that we don't have nearly enough evidence to prove that it'll be called the 5SE, which I think is a dumb name. Using 2 letter suffixes is laughable. It just makes it sound idiotic. 5E, maybe, but these names just relate it to the 5 series in general, which is nearly 4 years old. If they call it the 6 Mini, the 6S Mini or the 6M, it would be light years better.

What are you talking about? The speed of innovation in the most important product of the worlds biggest hardware company is only going to increase. They are literally marketing the current S-update iPhone with the slogan: The only thing that's changed is everything. And now the full number update is coming to improve on everything that's not yet included into everything. With all the low-hanging fruits harvested, innovation must come in more unexpected ways. Apple is best on things others aren't even working on. Like when Touch ID became Apple Pay. With iPhone 7 we will learn what their plans are for 3D Touch beyond just peek and pop. Every new technology starts out as a gimmick and then becomes indispensable.

After using the IPad Pro for a few months, I don't think I can go back down to the iPad Air screen size.
Confirmation bias, is the tendency to search for, interpret, favor, and recall information in a way that confirms one's beliefs [or decisions], while giving disproportionately less consideration to alternative possibilities. It is a type of cognitive bias and a systematic error of inductive reasoning. People display this bias when they gather or remember information selectively, or when they interpret it in a biased way. The effect is stronger for emotionally charged issues [like screen sizes].

We humans couldn't make decisions and stand by them, if we wouldn't convince ourselves that our past decisions were right. Of course the new expensive thing we've just bought is (must be) superior (far superior) to the old thing we already owned. Otherwise the money would be wasted and we can not allow that. Therefore: "After using X for a few months, I don't think I can go back to Y." doesn't really mean much. Wait until after you've typed on (and bought) an iPad Air 3 with Smart Keyboard.

In a profile of Johny Srouji, Apple's SVP of Hardware Technologies who oversees Apple's chip development, Bloomberg quietly confirmed some key processor details about Apple's upcoming devices, the iPhone 5se and the iPad Air 3.

Both products will use Apple's latest chip technologies, with the iPhone 5se adopting the A9 processor from the iPhone 6s and the iPad Air 3 adopting the A9X processor first used in the iPad Pro.

Early iPhone 5se rumors were offered conflicting information on the processor that would be used, with some pointing towards the A9 and others pointing towards the previous-generation A8. Later rumors have solidified around the A9, and now we've got confirmation from a reliable source.

For the iPad Air 3, while the A9X seemed like a logical choice for the tablet, there was no prior rumor suggesting it was indeed the chip Apple would be using, so Bloomberg's concrete information about the chip is worth highlighting.

Bloomberg's piece also further confirms Apple's planned March event, which is rumored to be taking place mid-month, on March 15. Further rumors have suggested the two devices will be released online and in retail stores just days after their unveiling, on March 18.The iPhone 5se is Apple's 4-inch iPhone, which will be sold alongside its larger-screened flagship devices. iPhone 5se rumors suggest it will look like a cross between an iPhone 5s and an iPhone 6s, using the iPhone 5s body with the curved display glass of the newer device.

As for the iPad Air 3, it's expected to take several design cues from the iPad Pro. It is rumored to include four speakers, two at the top and two at the bottom, along with a possible Smart Connector for accessories and a rear LED flash, the first to be implemented in an iPad.

I am not buying another new IOS device until they remain consistent with one processor vendor. Same thing with all the components actually. Apple runs a risk having to use two vendors to supply processor chips, especially when defects happen.

I've said it before and i'll say it again.....TAKE MY MONEY!!!!

I swear that there was ONE rumour saying that the new 4-inch iPhone will be called the 'iPhone 5SE'. One. So why is every single article everywhere calling it this?

I think that will in fact be the name. It is an updated iphone 5/5s. Reminds me of a car....the "se" model :p.....next we will have the "sel"

I share the same sentiment as @Dionte. I liken it to having a 6 plus when upgrading to the 5s. I don't think it's about justifying the purchase we made. If I was to go back to the Air screen size.. it would feel awkward somehow. I've grown fond of the iPad Pro.. I don't have the Smart Keyboard.

I just prefer more real estate when it comes to editing various content.
