I personally am not interested in anything less than 5.5", but a smaller phone for those that want it would be great.

I do hope Apple seizes this opportunity to simplify their product lines by cutting the 5s and the 6/6+ and keeping only the 5se(6c/7c), 6s, and 6s+. Then in the fall, just add the 7/7+ and have that as the lineup to avoid an absurd amount of phones out.

Did you realize that on a 4" screen the internals of the iPhone 6 would fly ?
Let us hope about 2 Gb of ram and it would be perfect.

Yes I realize that. But I don't want a iPhone 6, I want a 6S. The iPhone 6 is last years phone and the iPhone 6S is this years phone and what I am looking for. That is my point. Unless it has 2GB of ram a upgraded 5S with the A8 chip of the iPhone 6 is not enough of an upgrade for me to buy a new phone. I will just keep what I got til the next iteration and Apple will loose a sale.

No, the name doesn't make sense because it's basically a smaller iPhone 6 (like I mentioned), not 6s. Same power as a 6, therefore "iPhone 6 mini" makes perfect sense, "5se" makes zero sense.

By your logic, the iPhone 6 does not have the same power/RAM as the 6s, therefore it should have been called "iPhone 5s Plus".

I actually was very specific in NOT suggesting a name (I said "5xx" to avoid this), I didn't suggest "5se", not sure why you're attributing that to me. I was only was dealing with the 6 vs. 5 since you asked "why not?"; I suggested a reason, the iOS upgrade path (and gave another example too). I also said "IF" the power isn't the same.

When the iPad 4 was out and they came out with a smaller iPad they did not call it an iPad 4 mini. It's a completely different numbering system (they had no number at the time, but they do now and they don't match up and you can easily count). The minis have been numbered separately from the iPads, iPad Airs and the iPhones (and then we have the few models of iPad they didn't actually number).

Also, "Plus" in Apple's iPhone naming convention means larger screen. I'm not sure why you'd say that it'd be a 5 plus...

I'm not suggesting a specific naming convention, I'm just saying if the screen size of the iPhone 5 is the screen size of this newer small one AND the power isn't the same of the 6, it might make sense to avoid the 6 number (to avoid weird iOS upgrade fragmentation at some point). Apple might be planning ahead so they don't end up saying "this update of iOS runs on all the iPhone 6 models except for the iPhone 6 mini" OR IF this model doesn't have ApplePay so they can say something simple like "Apple Pay runs on all models of iPhone 6 and up".

It's kind of wasteful to argue naming conventions for a nonexistent product with no official specs or official name. I was just giving a few examples as to why not...

I want to try this. Lol

I think iphone 5s design is more beautiful and dont forget that replacement casing is not made by apple, so its quality will not be as great as the one apple made.

Hope the new 4" will include a9 processor, because if they include the a8 by the time ios 10 hits the market, it will be dog slow.

Claimed-4-Inch-iPhone-Photo-800x600.jpg

Leaked photo of purportedly new 4-inch iPhone to the right of an iPhone 5
^^ Just maybe.. the phone on the right is the iphone6s and on the left is the iphone5se??

Just want to say, I made an image very similar to this when the iPhone 6 came out. I just copied the dimensions of the iPhone 5S I put next to it. For those reasons, it's hard to take the image seriously

If Apple wants the new 4" phone to sell well they need it to have the internals of the 6S. If it has the internals of the 6 they are crippling it right out of the gate and it want sell as well. I want a 4" phone myself but I don't want it with old tech. I want it to be the same as the 6S just in a smaller form factor. Guess we will have to wait to see what Apple comes out with.

Actually there are not a lot of people who want to have smaller phone with the same specs, I think it's targeted at people who doesn't care about tech that much and just want an iPhone and pick the cheapest option (same with 16GB).

Well I have been reading post after post that says otherwise.

If it has the same internals and features as the 6 they are crippling it right out of the gate because a lot of people won't want to buy it cause it isn't the latest and greatest. If Apple want it to sell well it will have to have the same specs and features as the other phones, minus a feature or two.

There are a lot of people who won't care if it doesn't have an A9, 3D Touch, 12mp camera, etc. Apple just needs to call it iPhone 6 mini, offer it in rose gold, make it a little faster/better (A8, improved FaceTime camera, NFC/Apple Pay) and call it a day. That will be enough for millions of people holding on to their 4s/5/5s in the hope of getting another iPhone that fits better in their hand than the 6/6s.

Why not just keep selling the iPhone 5s for couple of more years? It is a good phone.

The 5s doesn't work with Apple Pay (unless you pair it with an Apple Watch)

I personally prefer the 4" screen size and would like a phone that works with Apple Pay too.

Remember how no rumor was correct with the name of "the New iPad" (aka iPad 3)?
Edit: it would have been so much easier if Apple named and configured their iOS devices like their other products.
No numbering, just newer generations.
No "plus", "mini", just different sizes with basically same specs (maybe some different clock speeds due to heat and size but same gen internals)
A new name for a new concept product (like the Mac mini, MacBook Air, iPod Shuffle)
Too late now but just wishing.

Yes of course they will sell lots of them, that's a given. But they will sell ALOT more if it has up to date specs and features. Hell Apple could take the iPhone 5S and put curved edges on it, call it the iPhone 6 mini and call it a day and they will sells millions. The point of my original post is I have seen lots of people were people said that they wanted a 4" iPhone with the latest specs and features. Nothing more nothing less and I would like you to point were that statement is incorrect. because I can point you to countless posts by people asking for it.

Nobody cannot get things together?

iPhone 5SE - revised iPhone 5S with A8, new hardware etc.

iPhone 6S Mini - the thing on that photo on the right with hardware that can be comparable to 6S.

iPhone 5SE - the same price as current 5S.
6S Mini - 100$ less than iPhone 6S.
Judging by the phito and dimensions, it looks more like a 4.2 inch.

As for the names 5s, 6s, 6s+, 5se ... hmmm... it all sounds familiar. Apple seems to be reaching back to the past during their beige and even off-white Mac era with the names for their phones. There was the Mac II, Mac IIsi, Mac IIci, Mac IIfx, Mac IIcx, etc. My wife would love to get a 4" iPhone with ApplePay capabilities.

Said this a while back in reply to the guy from Cult of Mac who does their podcast.

Apple are returning dangerously close to the bloated and confusing product line up from the old days.

Sure, the tech savvy and fans of the brand will know what product does what but the average consumer without any knowledge of which model does what must be confused by all these SKU's.
