Im pretty sure apple will announce the 4.7 inch and 5.5 version in september during their long awaited keynote. But the 5.5 is an absolute must.
First let me say if iOS was able to run on other devices (natively) then I would have bought a galaxy note 3 a long time ago and ran iOS on it.
The 4.7 version is not an exciting prospect, one must ask what can a diagonal enlargement of 0.7 inch provide to the end user? Ultimately we will continue using facebook, snapchat, whatsapp etc.
I will be buying a new iPhone soon but I cannot justify 800-900£ of expense on a slightly bigger iPhone, it simply is not worth it. However the 5.5 certainly will be.
Its been embarrassing for so long, pulling out a little 4 inch phone when everyone else has got 5-5.7 inch phones.
Credit to apple, they find a way of making their product desirable after they update the hardware. I really like the macbook air and the pro but im a windows user so I cant buy it unless windows is PROPERLY supported on macs.
However iphone sales will start slowing down. It will get to a point like PCs have where there is enough processing power to do the tasks everyone needs to do, like whatsapp snapchat facebook etc and there is little benefit to be had from additional horsepower unless you are a gamer. Funny how these chinese manufacturers are releasing quadcore 5 inch phones at 10% of the price of say galaxy s5.
The 5.5 inch will be the true flagship device. The 4.7 will always be seen as inferior.
I'll reserve judgement until I can hold it in my hand, but I have yet to hold any 5.5' device and think "I would love holding this against my head" or "I can't wait to have this thing crammed in my pants pocket all day!"
I think 4.7' really just is the sweet spot of usability and convenience/portability.
 I have managed to survive for 4 years pulling out a 3.5" phone without feeling embarrassed.

I don't think you need to reserve judgement to find out that a 5.5 foot and 4.7 foot devices are too big. I also think your pants will break if you have a 5.5 foot device jammed in the pocket.
iPhones have always been a bit 'female' and the fact that all the Android devices are now man-sized makes this i5/5S seem even more girlie to me now. I feel a bit embarrassed pulling my i5 out I must admit. It's small and all the women have them...
I use it because I want to, not because of an image I'm trying to project.

Same here, but it needs to man-up and enlarge to masculine sizes rrrreal quick. The i5 was the last iPhone that should have been tiny. The 5S took it 12 months too far.

You... you can't be serious. Are you serious?![]()
I'm kinda on the wind up...but iPhones are a bit girlie.

I have to wonder: What are you trying to compensate for?
There's nothing "embarrassing" about pulling out a phone, any phone, any size. My phone works for me. I may even keep my 5S if I find the 4.7 inch is too big for me.
Besides, my iPad air has a 9 inch screen. Does that mean I win the size contest?![]()
But that sounds a bit misogynistic, and, frankly, it makes you sound a bit insecure in your masculinity. But whatever floats yer boat.
now that every single phone on the market is much bigger than the iPhone
Yes...but they're phones, and the Apple product is an iPhone ;-)
"a diagonal enlargement of 0.7 inch" means 38 percent larger screen area.

There's nothing girly about the black iPhone 5.
Less so than the white one for sure, but it's the tiny size and the fact it's an iPhone which makes it girly. iOS is considered 'simple to use' and 'restricted', which makes it desirable for old people and - sexism alert - women. Men pick larger phones and use Android. That's not my personal opinion, but it is the opinion of many who speak to me.
