I wish iphone sales would completely flop. Apple is expecting people to spend $750 on a phone with a measly 16GB storage? Even worse, not expandable? Yet the sheep lined up like always. NAND flash prices have fallen to less than a third of what they were in 2010 when Apple moved to 16GB nearly FIVE years ago. And they'll keep it at 16GB until people stop falling for the scam.

If Apple tried to get away with the same BS in the laptop market with SSD's, and tried to sell a laptop today with 2010 storage, people would say hell no.

Yeah... Apple is doomed.

It's that special kind of doomed where they can generate $10 BILLION in profit over a 3 month period.

:p

I'm active on Google+ and one of the few fans there and it's amazing how hostile everyone to Apple is. It's like LOL. Apparently there Apple is doomed and no one wants the phone.

It's amazing after 8 phones Apple still had the magic even with preordering.

Well, it's been found that the majority of those in line are current iPhone owners. They are just upgrading.
About 5% or less are Android users moving over to the iPhone.
*See Fox, NBC and CNN articles regarding their line polls in various regions.

So yeah, not much new market share.
I guess if Apple can keep the iPhone base around the same, they can sustain their revenue stream as long as all iPhone owners upgrade frequently.

I've had the 4 & the 5S now.
Wife has had 4, 5S and now the 6.
So I guess it's working to Apple's favor.

Apple already had majority market share in the US, so it's no surprise that the majority of people standing in line are current iphone owners.

Also, keep in mind that someone standing in line for hours, is almost certainly a "fan", and so probably already owned an iPhone.

What will almost certainly be true, however, is that the non-Apple high-end market outside the US just got decimated. I don't see any reason why someone would pick a Sammy over an iPhone anymore.

Even Samsung knows' this, with their latest several minutes long ad basically saying "but guys, we were first!!! So what if we are worse" (Your standard commenting troll response).

Apple is expecting people to do that because people are willing to do it.

Apple does not simply sell you a bunch of components. They sell you a fully fleshed out, well thought out product, backed by unmatched customer support, and easy to use services and applications which make my life significantly easier.

I make back the $200 or so Id pay for an iPhone over a Sammy within 2 years simply based on time saved because my iPhone works with me, and I don't have to configure every minute little detail like I had to on my S3 so as to not fight it daily.

The $750 Apple expects you to pay evey 2 years is less than what people spend at Starbucks in 6 months. And it provides far greater value.

OK, dudes, seriously. It's a phone. It's a NICE phone, but it's still a phone. You can't wait a week or two? And who jumps on to dot zero of ANY system, anyway?

Why do you care?. Last I heard it it is still a free country.

I own my own businesses. I can sit here, place orders, give orders, and forum all I want... :p

By keeping 16GB as the base, they are forcing people who want reasonable space for a 2014 to move up. So you are really talking about $850 for a reasonable model. 16GB is just ridiculous, especially with no expansion option. And God help you if you don't live in the US, add taxes and you're well over $1000 for a phone.

You under estimate the power of a flexible phone OS with true multitasking, ability to attach files to email, customize the OS or be more productive in a business environment.

iPhone is great if you want something very simple but limited capabilities when compared to Android phones.

At our company, you don't see engineers or sales people carrying iPhones.
And yes, our company gives people a choice of phones to carry, iPhone is one of them.

Keep regurgitating their marketing materials please, I'm sure we're all dying too hear more

I've been a loyal iPhone user since 2007 but there is no damn way I will be spending $850 on a phone just to avoid 16GB of 2010 era storage.

Then you are in luck. Apple is not forcing you to buy a new phone, your old one still works (I am guessing. My old one does)

Days like this make me appreciate not living in a huge metropolitan area. I got to my Apple Store at around 5:45 am and was # 30-something in line!! I walked out of the store with my brand new iPhone 6 Plus 128 GB Space Gray by 10 a.m. Judging by those pics above though it looks like some people won't be getting their phone until this time tomorrow lol

Exactly. I don't understand the hostility either.

Everyone hates Apple... except the 40-50 million people who will purchase iPhones this quarter.

:D

whats the point of joining that line? do they think the store got 10,000 phones?

Whenever I see a really long line for anything - I join it. I don't even care what people are lining up for, because if people are prepared to queue like that then I know something awesome must be waiting for me at the front of the line.

Went to my local Best Buy; was the first person in line (6 am).

By 8, maybe a dozen people had joined me.

An employee came out and told us they had no Plus models in stock, and the only carriers they had were ATT and Sprint, along with the colors and storage capacities they had in stock.

They did, however have one Plus demo in and let us hold it...which was my only reason for not ordering online. I wanted to see one first....just too large for me.

I walked out by 8:15 with a 128 GB Space Gray model.

Also, a large number of people 50+ in age drove up and asked us if we knew what they had in stock. Every single one of them wanted Plus model. Not just look at...wanted one....and didn't want the 6.

Think about that for a moment.

Live from downtown Bethesda, MD .....

I arrived here around 9AM this morning and headed down to the Bethesda Row Apple store, where a line of people was wrapped around the side and about half way around the rear of the store.

Decided to get in line just to see what the situation was (I'm interested in buying a 128GB iPhone 6 but it's not a "need to have" thing at all.).

The line didn't move a bit for about 30 minutes, and one of the Apple reps was showing all of us the 6 and 6+ but wouldn't let anyone touch them. We got free Dunkin Donuts coffee and pretzel snacks too.

A Hispanic guy behind me in line was all upset because he had just camped out overnight at a Verizon store, only to find out when they opened that they had absolutely no iPhone 6+ 128GB models in stock - which is all he wanted. Of course, he was hammering on the Apple staff to find out if they did, indeed, have any 6+'s so he knew if waiting again was worth it. They refused to tell anyone (which seems really stupid!).

Around 9:45AM, another Apple rep finally came out to announce that there were no more iPhone 6+'s in the store. That instantly shortened the line a bit. Then he made a second announcement; that there were no Sprint or T-Mobile iPhone 6's in the store. (That's when I left, since I have T-Mobile.)

I headed over to Staples too, just to see what the situation might be in there. They were only taking pre-orders for the iPhones and had nothing in inventory at all.

So from what I'm seeing, inventory is really tight around here. If you didn't pre-order, you're probably not getting anything today!
