I find it somewhat weird that Apple allows the new iPhone 6 Plus to do upside down home screen orientation unlike previous phones. I completely understand the use of landscape view but this?

What do you mean? I always found it annoying that it /wouldn't/ turn upside down.
It makes no sense if you're using it as a phone, no, but imagine you're using it as an iPod or something, or to watch videos; I would rather have the speakers facing up toward me in that regard, and would like to be able to use the screen right-side up while I do so.

Look at the shot from the other angle

You'll see a piece of the screen brake off at 3:50...flying off to the right.

Image

...and from this angle it's ease to see how destroyed the phone really is - in the next shot they show a perfect iPhone.

Really? Are you serious right now??

The glass didn't come off. It's not peeling away either. It's shadows and the fact that every photo you have highlighted were the screen was coming "off", is in front of a bag, stand or tripod. Come on man. Give it a rest. If you're that worried, try it with yours and let us know.

Saying the same thing over and over again isn't going to prove your point, and people do see what you're thinking is a detached screen and glass, but think otherwise; pointing out what you think is glass isn't going to make it glass.

I see what you mean on the screen detaching, I will admit, and I thought the exact same thing when I watched it. The glass shattering, though, even when I watch it again I don't see how you think that's glass. That giant piece is a leaf or something, obviously, and the gorilla glass doesn't break into giant chunks like that when it breaks.. (tiny pebbles of glass debris is what happens) - - and the small things are just random small things on the ground getting blown away by the air of the iPhone landing.

Stop arguing with everyone

You also see a piece of the screen brake off at 3:50...

All that "piece of the screen" is is a twig, seen here to the left and then it's moved a bit when the phone hits.

OK so it does look like the screen came away from the body to be fair.

Anyway - even if the screen did come away, that doesn't mean it broke or cracked. Screens are taken off and put back when you service a phone so there's no reason to assume that it was broken just because it came away temporarily.

In fact popping out would mean a bit of elasticity in there which probably saved the display from smashing.

They probably just squeezed it and it popped right back in.

But they never mention this in the video! They pretend there was no damage at all !

Keep in mind, Android Authority is part of a much larger corporation.

A better question is, if they're truly Android biased, or Android exlusive... why would they even perform a "Drop test" on an iPhone. Let alone provide a positive report.

The internet is a waste land of sell outs, it's the nature of the beast. Without corporate sponserships, none of these sites survive.

For the same reason that a site called "Mac Rumors" Posts articles related to Android or Samsung and any other "non-Apple" product.

I'll ask again, why would a site called ANDROID AUTHORITY want to fake an iPhone drop test? If they dropped the phone and the glass shattered why would they want to hide that? Anyway nowhere in the video do we actually ever seen the glass shatter or crack.

Irrelevant, it still looks faked. I'm also a video editor so I know how easily editing can be deceiving.

As for WHY android authority would fake good drops?

Well why would an apple blog fake a story to make an android phone look good? Either the editor is a fanboy or someone is being paid.

Android Authority is great. And obviously a big proponent of Android. If anyone wanted these to break, Josh would. Haha. Well done. I just love that MacRumors has a link up to one of their videos.

Don't you look at these videos BEFORE you post them MacRumors?

THE DROP TEST VIDEO IS FAKED!

You can even see the glas panel coming off when the 6 plus hits the ground (3:53), then they cut to a completely intact phone.

Oh and glass flying at 3:45.

Lol... There was no flying glass at 3:45 that was a piece of a plant(?) that you could see in the clips before it. All of the stuff that went flying was on the floor before the phone dropped. -_-

I'm actually inclined to believe him. It does look faked. Check my post history, diehard Apple fan.

fine. i'll believe it's not faked based on the evidence to the contrary, and you can believe it's faked based on an inability to observe online videos with any accuracy. my affinity for apple has absolutely nothing to do with it.

This is why you buy a case for the iPhone 6/6 Plus before you buy the iPhone. Put it in a case before walking out of the store with it. Otherwise, don't whine or complain if you accidentally drop it and it cracks or gets scratched up. I'm going to already have an Otterbox Defender case before I buy my new iPhone.

This sums up what I was thinking

I wasn't saying it's wrong to do this because I've found myself wishing i could too at times, i just thought it was odd that they randomly did it finally. And does this also happen with the iPhone 6 which I'm getting or just the 6 Plus? If anyone has gotten their hands on one yet?

Why would a site called Android Authority have brand allegiance to an iPhone? I would they want to make the iPhone look good?

They only care about money/hits.

And, like I said, they might be bucking for cushy jobs at Apple -- after all, Apple rewarded AnandTech in this manner...

How did the twig get into the phone in the first place? I'm not buying one if QC is bad enough to allow a twig to get into a brand new phone

Nice catch.

I think it's very much on-purpose and shows Apple thinks of the iPhone 6 Plus as an iPad more than a phone. The iPhone has an orientation: You're expected to use it mainly in portrait with the home button down, sometimes in landscape (either way), but not "upside down".

The iPad you're expected to use it which ever way you feel like rotating it.

This thinking comes through in the software and development tools.

So, the iPhone 6 Plus is really more like an iPad Nano.

(BTW, I'm completely BSing here. For all I know iOS 8 lets all the phones work like this. Sounded good in my head though.)

Um, okay? Do you feel better that you put me down?

Ah we really are in tinfoil hat territory now. :D
