I thought the screen separated at first, too. And then I watched it again, actually looking for it to happen this time, and could easily see it was just an illusion of the anti-aliasing/low-resolution.
It seems crazy that people are convinced by that first impression, but have fun?

Wouldn't a drop test where the glass shattered or the phone busted into pieces get more hits? Who wants to watch a drop test where the device has not much more than some nicks or scratches?

Because in the PhoneBuff test it shattered, as expected.
if this video merely confirmed what PhoneBuff already showed -> boring
different from what PhoneBuff showed -> interesting

You have to watch the slo-mo starting at around 3:52. There you can clearly see how the whole bottom part of the front glass gets separated from the body by at least 2mm -- and the makers of the video never mention it. This makes me think the whole thing is a fake, and they used different phones for different takes.

Same thing that happened to the kid happened to me, but in my case luckily I was opening it close to a table with a tablecloth, so nothing bad has happened. Be careful when opening the box. The shaking of the box to get it to open also dislodges the phone and it will probably fall off when fully removing the top cover. Just use care when opening the box and try to open it over something soft (carpet, bedcover, etc.).

I think the kid was kind of enticed by the reporter to open the box in front of them. I think the tv channel should at least offer to pay for a replacement, etc. if the kid prefers the phone to be replaced. In my case I would be pretty bummed if that had happened to me. Getting a new phone and immediately dropping it and most surely scratching or denting it.

My 2 cents

I'll make sure to get the bag of marshmallows out and spread them out on the table cloth on top of my bed...:)

You need a bigger tinfoil hat. Make sure to put it on before you start flying around in your black helicopter. :D

When I first saw this video last night I also thought the glass separated from the body. But then I figured it was probably just the glass wrapping around reflecting light in the way were not used to. Now that I have my iPhone 6 (not Plus) in my hand I can confirm that's exactly what we see in the video. I would imagine the iPhone 6 Plus which only exaggerate the effect. I've been trying to attach a pic of my phone showing this but it's not working for some reason. Just look at your own phones to see it for yourself.

This reminds me of the time Samsung 'faked' the video of the Bucket Challenge.
The phone was still doused in water. So what ended up being faked?

Remember in the preview videos from that Russian place where everyone went crazy about the reflection of the lights around the home button ring?
Isn't it possible that since the glass curves over the side that light and shadows can make it look like the distance is much more pronounced?

Couldn't it be possible that the screen separated on contact and then fell back into place?
What if the guy didn't realize the screen felt 'lifted' from the body?
When they release an edit clarifying that the screen did separate, would you guys be satisfied or will you cry conspiracy still?

Why don't you drop your iPhone 6 on concrete, if you are so sure this video is not edited/faked?

This discussion is hilarious. Buy the phone or dont.
A "test" such as this is ENTIRELY unscientific. Different surfaces are going to do different things, and you would need MANY drops to find any sort of tendencies. Its a big piece of glass people - like the phones in the past - it might break - it might not. Im sure they did quite a few design tests to make sure they werent going to have to be replacing phone glass more than usual.
This one or two stupid videos that people are getting 1000s of views over are telling you people NOTHING.
Buy it or dont - buy apple care if you are worried - but this much conversation over one or 2 diff people dropping a phone is pretty pointless.

NO it's not IT'S A FAKED VIDEO

- Glass shattering and you can see the panel coming off the phone (3:45)
- Glas panel coming off when the 6 plus hits the ground (3:53)

NO ITS THE SHINNY EDGE OF THE *****ING PHONE.

Seriously people!!! You see the shiny edge in most of the drops! It looks like the screen comes off but IT DIDN'T AND ALL YOURE SEEING IS SHINY

Very mature. Why don't you call me a "troll" -- isn't that what those with dissenting/unpopular opinions are called?

Think different!

After watching this more than I cared to. I still don't see how people think its fake and glass is shattering.... Low resolution artifacts if anything remotely make it look like the screen is separating.
Being on the bottom edge, it would be the hardest part to lift because of being screwed down. It would have to break the screws, mounts, or adhesive to lift at all without the case being bent.

No, it's not the shininess. You can clearly so the bottom of the glass come off and vibrate after the impact

Why is this so hard to believe? After all, PhoneBuff showed that the screen easily shatters (which was the expected result anyway -- and does not make the iPhone "bad").

Why should this be fake? It makes no sense. Why should more people watch a video where nothing happens? I mean there are arguments for both:

Apple lovers watch the video where nothing happens to sooth their minds before buying the iPhone

or

Apple haters watch the video and share it with all their hating friends and dance in a circle that Apple lost.

I'm really inclined to think that second possibility gives a lot more clicks. Honestly, the only reason I watched the video was because people here said it was fake. If nobody said anything, I would have thought the information that nothing happens in the video is sufficient. There's no more information in the video, really. If it had shattered, I probably would want to watch how bad it shattered etc.

Which leads me to a new tinfoil theory (fight fire with fire, right?):
MAYBE the people in this thread claiming it's fake are actually from Android Authority who want to make us watch the video to analyse their claims. Boom!

Did you watch PhoneBuff's test (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGxlm82hWDM)? There it also shattered mostly on the bottom -- and, more importantly -- the screen separated towards the bottom, too (around 4:41).

I agree, I watched this more times than I care to admit as well lol.

On the first look of the video, I also noticed the separating. If you look at the other guys drop test vid, the screen, after it breaks, does actually become separated from the phone in a similar way..

I'm not exactly sure.. but it does look like it becomes separated.

The small pieces that fly away from the phone are on the 6 as well, which I believe it's gravel is on the cement.

Another thing going for this video is the timestamp on the phone (which can easily be changed though) but the time matches from the time he drops the phone and then picks it up.

Overall, I still suspicious of the way it separates, and glad other people noticed that as well

It's significant in that did these phones do better than they would have had they used sapphire? Maybe phones made that way couldn't even come close to passing this kind of test.

"Still, given the increased size of the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus, it may be advisable for users to purchase a case."

Surely it simply being a bigger piece of glass doesn't make it automatically more prone to breakage? Who knows what advances they have had in the past year to reinforcing the glass and what not.
The slippery part sounds like it could be a concern, especially on the plus.

Don't mind me, I am just torn, trying to convince myself to remain case-less as I have since the iPhone 4.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat as you there. But it is bigger & not hidden by the edges like the 5/s was.
