Thank you for all the support with this, excellent community here. I also don't have Apple Care, but have had my phone for less than 14 days so assume I'm eligible for a free replacement.

Did you replace that one too?

Yup. I've given up on the 6 and gone with the 6+ instead. Got tired of playing the display lottery.

First display had a dark top corner which was super distracting when reading against white backgrounds. Second had the aforementioned dead pixel and 3rd was just outright inconsistent and unevenly lit. Again distracting when reading.

Got a 6+ instead and i'm happy now. I'd rather have had a 6 with a good screen but it seems thats too much to ask of Apple so...so be it.

Did you sell the 6 or talk apple into letting you upgrade?

So I've just finished a chat session with an Apple representative through the support section of their website; they were very apologetic and said they would replace my handset without question. I'm going to go to my nearest store after work tomorrow to make the swap. No appointment needed! Here's hoping I get a fault free handset...

Look at it closely before you leave. Compare it to your old phone. Let us know how it worked out.

Should most stores have a good amount of replacement 6 plus 64gb in space grey or will they likely be out of stock?

I actually asked the Apple rep that as I know that the 6+ is in short supply. She said the store has spares put aside specifically for replacements. I would like to think you'll be ok if you try for a replacement.

Me too. After 3 6's all with dead pixels I gave up. 6+ number two was fine.

So they will replace your phone an unlimited number of times as long as you keep getting dead pixels? Did you test out the new ones in store and were you able to keep your original box?

You should be able to always get a replacement. That is correct that there are special units set aside specifically designated as replacement phones.

Assuming you continuously have display issues, they will keep replacing it. Before you leave with your replacement phone, give it a really good look over and make sure everything checks out while the genius is still there. They usually have no problem standing by for a few minutes while you check it out.

Also, you keep your original box. The replacement phone is just the phone, so the box you have won't match the serial number of your replacement phone. Not really a huge deal unless you are trying to keep it "mint" for reselling purposes.

Wait, so the replacement phone will be a phone already removed from it's packaging? Or they open it there in front of you and keep the box? Why not just take your old phone with the original box, lightning cable, headphones etc and give you a sealed replacement? I don't like the idea that my replacement will be a handset that's been kicking around out the back without any protective packaging. How will I know it's a new one and not someone else's returned unit, or a refurbed one??

The replacement phones were specifically manufactured as replacement devices so they don't come with any retail packaging. These usually come in a plain white box and sealed protective wrapping. You keep your original box and accessories because only your phone is being replaced, there's no need to eeplace the accessories.

As I said earlier, the replacement phones were made the exact same way as the phones that go to customers. They are identical. This early in the game, it is highly unlikely it will be a refurbished unit. After a few months usually the refurbs may start popping up as replacement phones.

It is always encouraged to contact Apple directly for questions you may have. My information is derived from personal experience but there could be some things I missed or got wrong.

Will Apple replace a Tmobile iPhone 6 bought from Tmobile?

Hey Guys,

I am awaiting a new 6 from T-Mobile and am wondering if the Apple Store will replace one that was sent to me from my carrier should it have a defective screen. I ask because all of my local T-Mobile stores have none in stock.

Thanks!

So the Apple Support rep sent me to an Apple reseller, not an Apple Store. They're not authorised to do replacements apparently, so I'm no closer to a replacement. I need to book an appointment at a different branch, but none of those near me have appointments free for a few days. By the time I get to the appointment, I will have had my phone for life never than the 14 days. Where do I stand with this?!

Hi guys,

I received my 6 plus last week, but there are two dead pixels on the screen. I talked to chat advisor last night regarding dead pixels issue. He said he will send me a replacement, but not in a retail package. Is he supposed to send me a repalcement in a retail package? Moreover, I checked the serial number of replacement product provided by the email, it was manufactured on week 37 ( September). Would it be a refurb?

Thanks!

Too early for refurbs

No it's not.

They repackage all the phones that people open and don't want in the store, and they also repackage all the phones being returned for yellow screens and such. They don't replace the screens. They redistribute them and hope the next guy is an idiot.

You may get a refurbished phone. Apple just doesn't call it that. Why do you think they play this game with the white boxes? Anonymity.

Just to update everyone on this, I went through hell and back with support (3 separate discussions, 3 lots of incorrect information) but after a lot of grief which I'll spare you from I walked away with a replacement today. It was a white box replacement, so no true idea as to how 'new' the handset is. I discovered during the whole process that today was the last day of my 14 day return period, so I was happy to get the handset and get out of there! I will give it a thorough look over later.
