Not in the least bit surprising...The 6 Plus is better. During the launch period, the best phone sells the most.

Not in the least bit surprising.

(I know not everyone considers bigger to be better. That's fine. Besides size, its better in several other ways.)

The 6 Plus is the better of the two....even if the form factor of the 6 is what suits you best.

Seriously, for the men who have a Plus, how in the hell do you carry it with you at all times? Do you always have some kind of bag? Do you wear clothes with excessively large pockets? The 6 barely fits in some of my suit jacket or pants pockets, let alone jeans. Women almost always have a purse and, prior to the release of the 6's, most Note/phablet users I observed in the wild were women, which makes sense.

I own a 6, but played with the 6 Plus at the Apple store, and it's an absolute monster. I can't imagine carrying it with me despite the larger and more pixel dense screen being a great asset.
I guess it depends on your build and your taste in style/clothing. I have a 6+ in the Apple leather case, and have no problems with portability/pocketability. I carried it to work yesterday in my khakis and found it goes in & out of the front pocket easily. I can sit in my desk chair with the phone parallel to my femur (it slides down a bit, towards the chair seat or more towards the side of the thigh), and is very comfy. Most of the time I have it on my desk, but I could easily sit through a meeting with the 6+ in my pocket.

Today I have regular jeans on, and same sitch: it fits in the front left pocket parallel to my thigh and rides there very comfortably. I've had my 6+ for almost two weeks and have mostly carried it in shorts (regular or cargo) and zero issues there.

For someone who wears tailored/fitted clothes (especially pants) or slim-fit, portability could be an issue. But barring that, I have no problems toting the 6+ with me everywhere.

Note: I don't take my phone with me to workout, so I don't deal with looser or smaller pockets of athletic shorts. That's what my iPod shuffle is for: the gym or PT. I also carry my phone in my front left pocket alone: no keys, change, nothing else goes front left buy my phone.

Haters gonna hate

Steve didn't say that because of technology. Steve said that as a positioning statement against the competition. Whatever phone size the iPhone was - he would have said it was the perfect size and told the audience why.

I'm still waiting on my Plus. I stayed up the night it was released, but Apple's site was down. The target delivery date is October 13-20, but I'm hoping for earlier since it's "preparing for shipment."

I had a 5s and now a 6 and 6+ for developer testing. I always use the 6 plus and never the 6 for personal stuff. The big screen is such a better experience and the 6 now seems too small to me. You get used to the plus size really quickly. If you haven't tried using a phablet for an extended period of time, I suggest you do because it will probably grow on you too.

Steve is unfortunately dead. Trying to compare apple of old to apple of now is an exercise in stupidity. And you're right, he would have said that regardless of what the iPhone looked like.

It's just stupid when people bring up what Steve said as some way to slight apple. The guy is dead let him rest in peace.

I'm not saying you do this btw

You're kidding, right? This clearly is a design failure. It bends in people's pockets. And where do you get that number from? Nine customers? I personally know three guys who had problems with the device bending. I think it shouldn't be us adjusting to the products they throw at us, but the other way around. I'd rather have a device that is smart with me, than me being smart with my device. But that's just my opinion...

You're kidding right? Their should have been a "shatter" gate as there were iphones with shattered glass alllllll over the place.. even to this minute. The iphones even get scratches and nics and dents and whoah..all kinds of stuff. So why such hype about it bending? I have the 6 Plus and have had it since the 21st. I've had it in my front pocket in jeans, back pocket in jeans and even (by pure accident), felt it in my back pocket of my shorts while driving last night. I was like Oooh sh**!! Pulled it out and guess what... absolutely nothing- as straight at it can be.

There isn't any design failure and one certainly can't determine there is by taking two hands and trying to bend with all of your strength then say, "See it does bend." Such craziness.

Have to say, having my Plus since launch has made me fully accustomed to it. I had to update my sisters 5S and it looks and feels so tiny its already something I'd have to get used to if I ever did go back to smaller phones. For me, the Plus is the sweet spot and and a phone I have no regrets about.

I think that there were many people wanting a bigger iPhone, so when it came out there was an initial rush. As time goes on, I think the rush for the bigger phone will subside.

The difference is honestly negligible and really boils down to which size your prefer. The battery life is increased by 20% if it's very display bound and might go towards 40% with more SoC-bound tasks.

The OIS gives an edge in low light/dark settings when taking pictures (not used for video), but the average user won't really notice a difference. Both are great devices but the most important decision between the two is really which screen size you prefer.

I agree. I don't think people realise how big the bigger phone is. Im sure there is a fraction of people who are buying the larger phone because they think its better than the smaller 6. I wouldn't be surprised if those people in the initial rush experience some sort of buyers remorse at some stage.

Although I still have an iPhone, I switched from the 4 to the Samsung GS4 and after that switch I found it quite painful to use the iPhone (which was for work then). Once you get used to the bigger screen, it is VERY hard to go back. Which is why I had never entertained changing back my primary phone to the iPhone. Now - not sure. I may or may not. I have another 10 months to think about it.

This is stupid. Before the phone was released, I heard about how the 6 plus would sell better than the 6. Then I read that the 6 demand is far greater than the plus. Now I read the plus is 60% of shipments? So it's all of the above? I give up.

You doubt it based on what

Tim Cook has repeatedly said that estimates based on supply chain shipments are unreliable. Clearly there was lots of iPhone 6 stock at the launch and not as many iPhone 6 Plus. Whether that was caused by underestimating demand, supply issues, or some combination, in any case as Apple gets a better sense of demand and their suppliers improve yields, we'll probably see a spike in 6 Plus shipments to "catch up" to the pent-up demand.

Also, Samsung does release limited data, and from most accounts the S4 and S5 outsold the Note 3 over a comparable period of time. If Apple buyers are similar to Samsung Galaxy buyers we would expect to see a similar sales pattern.

I would be glad as well if they kept 4inch option or introduced 4.3. one hand usability is still factor for many of us;(

Didn't Apple make a larger screened MacBook Pro a few years back? I believe they did but stopped making it. I don't think the demand is high enough for them to keep making the 4" series size anymore.

Inside breast pocket… perfect for an iPhone 6 Plus. If casual, I'll probably go belt holstered.

Every other report I've read showed iPhone 6 outpacing sales of iPhone 6 Plus by orders of magnitude.

They both are excellent phones but I believe the 6 Plus will give the 6 a run for it's money. The high percentage is because it's not regularly available like the 6 thus bring the order number up much higher. We'll have to see the sales report to know for sure.

Thanks for explaining and yes I can see where your doubts come from now

I feel like Apple was trying to test the market with the 6 and see what the iPhone users truly preferred. Seeing that people are preferring the bigger phone, I wouldn't be surprised to see the next gen iPhone only in one size that is on the bigger side, but maybe a little smaller than 5.5" 6+.

Not necessarily. The iPhone 6 itself is plenty big. It's about the same size as the Galaxy S5 (just a bit narrower and thinner). Apple has released 2 phones each of the last 2 years, so it stands to reason that they'll do that again next year, particularly since next year will be an "S" release that will likely keep the same basic design (perhaps with a few minor tweaks to deal with the "bending" controversy) and focus on other improvements, such as a faster, more efficient A9 processor, 2GB RAM, and perhaps LTE/A.
