I'm in the 40% and really happy with my choice. 6+ would have been too big for my needs.

Hurray for choices! 4" (5S/C), 4.7" and 5.5"!

Just kidding though, I am still hoping that this phablet thing is just a fad. And will pass soon.

I know this is just my preference and I may be biased. Because I am used to smaller screens, or maybe becaus du have small hands. But I have currently been using an iPhone 6 and a galaxy alpha. Love the design on both of them, but honestly even 4.7inch is bigger than I would like... Makes it harder for me to use. Even with apples one hand usability stuff.

I would love a iPhone 6 mini. Even if it had a smaller battery and weaker specs. I know that will never happen though, and I am definitely in the minority

I'm only a little surprised, since I know a LOT of people going for the 6+. It's that gorgeous display - I was set on the 6 until I saw the 6+ display. Ordered the 6+ despite the bends - hope a rigid case is enough.

Apple are about two years late to the party, but they showed up before the beer ran out. They'll go home with the ugly bendy chick this year, but they'll finally nail the 6S+ next year.

I think part of it is a fear that Apple is moving away from its core philosophies under the Jobs era. For instance, when Steve Jobs returned in 1997, he reduced the number of product lines since he thought that there was so much "choice" it was confusing to customers. There are now two different sized current iPhones, and 2 iPads, plus older models of each available. Macs have largely stuck to the "Pro" and "not Pro" models, but there will be no less than 34 different SKUs for the Apple Watch, which is a brand new category for which Apple has no idea yet whether it will be successful.

I appreciate your thinking but even Jobs would readily flip flop on his own stances in pursuit of making money. For example see: http://www.techlicious.com/blog/5-big-flip-flops-from-apple/ and http://allthingsd.com/20120529/steve-jobs-was-an-awesome-flip-flopper-says-tim-cook/ and https://www.yahoo.com/tech/10-thing...-would-still-be-tiny-photo-1411768548909.html

Back in 1997, Apple was on the verge of dying. It produced way too many products for it's revenues at the time. Apple in 2014 is far, FAR bigger than the 1997 Apple. To keep growing, it can't execute 1997 "save the company" strategies by focusing on a tiny little group of products. Jobs was right to shrink the product mix in 1997. And he was right to expand it as Apple grew well above where it was in 1997. The current leadership is right to try to grow it beyond where it was when Jobs was still alive. And the future leadership will be right to try to grow it beyond where it will be when they retire.

It's the only way when large-scale growth is expected year over year. If you condense your product mix in this scenario, eventually everyone that is going to own a handful of devices has one. Then where does the new revenues come from?

Personally, I still don't see the iWatch as a iPhone or iPad-like "next big thing" for Apple(s revenue growth) but it's good that they are trying to grow beyond Macs + iPods + iPhones + iPads. iPad (the last of the big (revenue) impact new products) hit many years ago. They need 1 or 2 "next big things" ASAP before everyone that wants a few of those own them. I doubt it's the iWatch but at least they are trying. Much better to give it a good try than to entirely rely on trying to set revenue & profit records by reselling the same small handful of products over and over.

60% ? Wauw :)

And Apple who thought their customers didn't want larger phones ;-)

I felt the same way and google was partially correct and apple never really could put their hands on the second type of user which is a Social Media User and like my son, the phone part (Talking) is way down the line - it's texting, tweeting, etc... for him. As for myself, talking on the phone is the most important part, the mail and text messages.
I don't believe Apple realized until 3 years ago (it takes about that long to develop software and hardware) that people wanted an Ultra Mini Tablet with capabilities of making a call from time to time. They needed to design an Ultra Mini Tablet to "put in their back pocket!"
When did I notice the difference? When I received my iPhone 6 - I bought into the technology, but the phone was too big for my lifestyle, so I returned it and threw the sim card back into my 5s.
The sales agents at my office (100 of them) rely on my opinion before buying into new technology - at least this time I could provide them with direction based on how they use their phones.

Noooo I'm talking about the one where 9 out of 10,000,000 customers have complained. 99.99991% success rate pshhh...does apple do any quality control anymore??

That number is so full of it that it makes me cringe. There are at least two guys on the Finnish MUG-forum complaining about bent phones, and I do believe that one of them was already bent before taking it out of the box.

Nine phones my ass.

Meh, let's pretend it's 10,000 phones (and...It's not). That would mean 99.9% of their sold phones haven't bent.

The sky is not falling, you can leave your bunker.

So we're believing DigiTimes now?

I know, right?

I do think the 6 Plus and :apple:Watch were meant to go together. Will be interesting to see if iPad mini gets updated this fall.

Yeah, a lot of people around the world buy phablets so that they only need to get one device. That cuts into both large phone and small tablet sales.

Some people at Samsung should be s*itting their pants right about now.

IMO, Samsung has several cards to play:

  • Price war
  • Go smaller! Make a pocketable super phone.
  • Work harder on getting out foldable phones.

Seriously, for the men who have a Plus, how in the hell do you carry it with you at all times? Do you always have some kind of bag? Do you wear clothes with excessively large pockets? The 6 barely fits in some of my suit jacket or pants pockets, let alone jeans. Women almost always have a purse and, prior to the release of the 6's, most Note/phablet users I observed in the wild were women, which makes sense.

I own a 6, but played with the 6 Plus at the Apple store, and it's an absolute monster. I can't imagine carrying it with me despite the larger and more pixel dense screen being a great asset.

I don't carry my phone in a purse most of the time. And yes, it is more awkward and unwieldy to carry around in my hand or in my back pocket (would never fit in front pocket of women's size 2 skinnies). But if you use it for 4-5 days, the awkwardness of actual use goes away and the benefits outweigh the negatives (for me and apparently lots of others). You can't really make an informed decision (only IMO of course) from just playing with it in a store. It was incredibly huge and awkward to me when I first unpackaged it on launch day and I thought I would for sure be returning it for the 6. But I told myself I would give it a week and 4-5 days later it was a keeper for me.

I used to secretly make fun of the Notes I saw in the wild - yes, I was one of those and I freely admit it. I couldn't imagine why someone would want a ridiculous phablet. But I gave the 6 plus a try and, yes, my mind was changed. At least I'm open to trying new things and not afraid to change my mind or admit I was wrong dismissing it earlier. The same thing really happened to Apple - they tried to dictate to people what size they "needed" and then found themselves losing customers who wanted a bigger screen to competitors who offered more choices. They had to adjust to the realities of the market and develop products many people obviously wanted.

So no, I'm not surprised that others feel the same way (find themselves really liking the phablet) or that Apple may have underestimated demand for iPhone Plus. I'm just glad we all have options. I had seriously considered jumping to Android or Windows for a larger screen (although I never imagined going bigger than 5"). My hope is that Apple develops a more compact design to accommodate the large screen in future iterations as that would be ideal.

Why would anyone want a phone that big? I'd have to carry that thing in a man-bag wherever I go! No thanks, I bought a 6 non-plus. :)

Why would anyone buy the 6 minus? It's already big, might as well go a bit bigger and have it all. Fits in jeans pocket just fine.

Thats insane. I skipped upgrading this gen, for the first time ever, due to both models being to large. Im amazed it sells so well, but also sad, because I guess this may be the end for the smaller models. Id prefer 4" and even 3,5" over these.

I will be the end. The 3.5 is already not being produced, and the 4.0 will follow phase out soon also.

And I will say that after using the Plus for one day the iPhone 5 looks tiny to me.

They are and will go after Apple with specs since that can't use the size thing anymore.

Hopefully this will end up with us (the consumer) getting more products and better prices. :)

Not really, the 6 plus is wayyyy too big for most people I know in regards a phone. It's unsurprising though as as is always the case, the 'newest' version of any Apple tech will always have the highest adoption rates by the tech 'must have' devotees. The 6 is more just evolution and so will at first not have quite the same clamour, but in the long run the 6 will far outsell the plus, no question about that.

the thing is for me, I rarely use my iPhone as a phone. If I could get a 50 minute a month plan from AT&T I'd be all over it. My phone is much more of a texting, media consumption device than anything. As a woman with small hands, I do have to use 2 hands with my 6+. I'm okay with that.

I do think you are right though that ultimately the 6 will outsell the plus. That wouldn't surprise anyone, including Apple.

I hope to discover the awkwardness goes away in a few days as well.

As for making fun of tools with giant phablets, count me in on that list. Now I'll be walking around with the biggest slab of a phone on the market. Maybe I'm the tool!

:p

so now that apple figured out that people like big things and don't mind the size... do you think we could get our 17" MBP back

Only 9 customers and only idiots would actually try and bend thier device. You don't see Pepsi or Coke giving refunds for you carrying a bottle of drink your pocket and sat on it and break it. Everything breaks and bend some even have #Gaps so we just need to be smart with our device.

If you actually kept a bottle of Coke in your pocket, and it broke when you sat on it; you would have worse problems, both mental and physical, than the most careless iPhone owner.
